what a lovely club, only marred by the most unfriendly miserable bar staff I ever come across…read more Having worked in this industry myself for a good number of years, I know the value of friendly, happy bar staff, this bowling club however seem to have forgotten this. The two barmaids could not even smile while serving, and when I asked one of them if I could have a tall glass instead of the pint glass she was giving me with my bottled drink, her expression would suggest I had asked her to slap her own face with a kipper!! A genuine smile goes a long way when working behind a bar, not to mention guests feeling welcome but also goes a way to earning some tips which I am sure these two earn very little of.

The Hibs as it is known locally is one of those old social clubs - been there since the dark ages…read moreand everyone locally had been to at least one (insert relevant choice) wedding reception, engagement party, christeming party, communion party, funeral gathering here. It's at the bottom of Clune Brae and easily accessible by bus or taxi and to be fair it's a pretty good social club. I've been here a few times (insert occasion) and I've always had a good time (except funerals, natch). Drinks are cheap, staff are pretty great at dealing with the drunks who don't want to leave at the end of the night and best of all, the toilets are decent. No nasty toilets here, clean but serviceable and more than one cubicle. They are not huge but enough to still fit in that girly gossip circle, as well as those whose bladders are straining. Not sure how much it costs to book but appears there are two sections - a members bit which shows the footie games on a projector (which can be seen from the bar in the function room incase that big game is on, mid big occasion), as well as an outdoor patio section which attracts the smokers. So, not much more to say about the Hibs - my reports are based on observations made whilst sober and given the prices of the drinks (mucho cheap in that great social club way) and the usually celebratory nature of my visits, then sobriety is often fleeting. Worth a visit!
