First- Celink is a SERVICER. They do not originate the Reverse Mortgages. I worked for Celink for several years. The people that are complaining do not understand that the company actually is following HUDS guidelines for all Reverse Mortgages. The people who take out the loans are counseled and sign legal documentation that talks about the options after they move off the property or pass away. The borrowers always own their home. No one tries to take away their home. HUD gives them 4 other options before a property goes to foreclosure AND up to a year to do so. Most times if a property goes to foreclosure the family hasn't followed through with easy and required paperwork or they chose to do so bc the property is underwater due to THE BORROWER using up their own equity any way they want. The people commenting here were not AT ALL educated on how a RM actually works. They are generally the children of the borrowers. Before reading these comments: refer and educate yourself on HUDS Reverse Mortgage Guidelines. RMs are NOT bad and actually do help a lot of people. Ie: Borrowers can actually use their equity from the RM to do whatever they want with the money and simply walk away WITHOUT RECOURSE. So don't let uneducated people fool you here. I don't even work there anymore but it's irritating to see these comments. It wasn't a terrible place to work. 95% of the people we worked with understood what to do and why bc it was governed over HUD and they actually read all the paperwork and educated themselves. I will say this. I left just before they moved most everything to Texas. I worked in Lansing MI. That was a change in ownership. As far as rude reps recently, I can't comment. I was a team leader and we didn't have those problems. We were well versed in helping the callers. read more

AVOID AT ALL COST. Totally predatory, you cannot get in touch with them. Their business practices are predatory and fraudulent. They told us that we signed documents that never existed at my dads property where he lives in Oregon and I'm in Washington. The signature was a scribble and no one was living in the home when it was signed. They also coerced him to signing a 12% interest rate when the rates were 4% and also charged $15,000. DO NOT USE read more

These people tried to take your home they spy they cheat they harass, and they will not talk to you like a civil human being. I called them back and they just wanted my father's Social Security number and his date of birth as they're trying to take his home. Do you think I gave it to them? No, I did not...beware. Do not let them take your home if I could give a zero I would. read more

Celink is horrible my father passed away unexpectedly and he had a reverse mortgage. Celink made it almost impossible to get the payoff amount . I was given false information by a service representative then later told it was incorrect which took over 3 months for them to get back to me in the meantime no one else would help me . I was told for 2 weeks every single day that their computer system was down . My lawyer had to write a letter and still was not able to get exact amount because everyday it goes up. They are terrible and they are corrupt. read more

IF you can avoid using this lender, please PLEASE do yourself a favor and walk away! This company is as corrupt as they come and they are one person away from a class action law suit. You will be up for thousands of dollars in "extra" charges that you won't have a say in paying otherwise you will continue getting delayed in closing on property (usually foreclosure situations or something desperate allowing them the prey on the vulnerable in their time of despair). They will do everything to the last minute to grab every last dollar you possible have before handing your title back and it WILL become a nightmare. All negative comments related to this company are accurate and all positive comments are most likely posted by paid employees. Don't get caught in the scam. Do your homework and give these losers a hard PASS! read more

I started communicating with the Loss Draft Dept. in early February. I submitted all documents needed to get Celink to send us the funds we needed for water damage to our home. We had waited two months for our insurance to finally send us funds, and then we sent the check to Celink and it took Celink 90 days to send our first check, after we had been without our bathroom for over 4 months. There was no explanation of how the figure was arrived at. I asked many times but no one communicated to me. Not once. The typical canned email reply was, "Hello, The documents have been uploaded and are under review. If anything else is needed the processing department will be in touch within the next few business days." Not once has anyone from Celink initiated communication. I have had to call and wait 40 to 60 minutes before speaking with anyone. Most often I would be placed on hold and then disconnected. No one ever called me back (they all had a callback number). Not once. All my questions regarding getting our funds sent to us were given this canned response, "Hello, Your email correspondence has been uploaded to your claim file for review and forwarded over to your Processor. Someone from the Processing team will be in touch with you soon to provide you with an update on your claim." No one "got in touch with me". Not once. I was sending documents and communicating with no one. Weekly I asked for updates and no one responded. Not once. I called spoke to LoriAnn on May 23rd. She listened to our chaotic story, and seemed compassionate of our months long issues with Celink. She transferred me to Supervisor Alex. Alex looked briefly at our file, and asked if she could review everything and promised to call me back the same day before closing hours. I have heard nothing from Supervisor Alex since. On May 25, I received a call from Angela Eliott. Angela said she would send me a check. I told her we have paid out over $16,000 more than Celink has paid us, and that I needed to receive our funds in order not to default on paying for everything. I asked if she could overnight the check, and Angela said, "Yes, I can do that.". Angela sent me an email with a UPS Tracking number. I have been checking the UPS site daily, and eight days later, the UPS site states "LABEL CREATED". Nothing further. I emailed Angela every day this week asking when the check would be mailed. No response. This afternoon I get a reply from Angela stating, "I have been out of the office this week. I have no control on the time it takes for the check to be mailed after I make the request" Angela made a promise she knew she couldn't keep. Celink still has not sent any further funds for over 113 days. I have used funds we set aside for an emergency because Celink has failed to properly send us our money in a timely manner. We are two seniors sharing a bathroom downstairs with two of our grandsons for over 168 days. The lack of urgency in this department continues to confound me. This is not Customer Service. This is Elder Abuse. read more

This company is chock full of incompetent, rude, nasty, and arrogant people. They thrive on harassing a borrower for even the tiniest situations. They sent me a threatening letter saying that I was delinquent of 17.00, yes, you read that correct, 17.00, and they were taking out a loan on my behalf to pay for it, and then requesting from my Treasurer's office a demand to pay off the "loan". AND adding 17.00 to my loan balance at the same time, along with lowering my Line of Credit, by yes, you guessed it, 17.00! Turns out that notification from them to me was bogus, and not correct. My taxes have always been paid, and on time. My taxing authority sent them a strong letter stating that they had made a mistake and that I was not delinquent on my taxes in any way, shape, or form. Of course, they did not respond to that letter, and to this day, still have not responded. My Treasurer said that she has never worked with such an incompetent bunch of boobs, and left it at that. By the way, the person that gave this company 5 stars, Wendy C. from, you guessed it, a nearby Michigan city, is an ex employee, so pay no attention to her garbage. It's phony, just like CELink is phony. read more

Celink is the company that supports Longbridge Financial. They seem to be buying these mortgages after the person has died. They then tack on a lot of fees and refuse to work with families to avoid expeditious settlement of the estates or sale of the property. I would not recommend that you or your family get involved with any loans involving them. As most of the respondents here on Yelp they are "a horrible company to deal with." To communicate with them you will spend hours trying to reach anybody by phone, wait on voicemail for minutes then hours to talk with a real person, be asked to wait days to get a response to routine requests for information and fine it hard to get accurate records of the services they allegedly provide. read more

Harassers! These individuals (Celink) work for the the reverse mortgage company you see advertised on TV by Tom Selleck - AAG American Advisors Group. Once you take out the reverse mortgage loan, Celink is the company you deal with. What many borrowers don't know is that huge interest rates are applied to the mortgage account monthly. Borrowers are able to take money (a lump sum) from their account every 6 months or so which obviously increases the balance due to the reverse mortgage company. Once the person dies the heirs have 60 days to inform them of what the plans are for the home and to submit the requested paperwork. 1) you hand over the keys to them 2) you refinance the house and purchase it 3) you have 1 year from the date of death to sell the home. If you choose to sell the home you must be in constant contact with Celink as to the status of the sale or transition. I understand that they need to keep updated on the estate as I am sure many people pass away and have no heirs or have heirs who fail to let them know what is happening with the estate. However ... Celink found out that my father had passed away and within 2 weeks were calling his home and having an appraiser calling to schedule an inspection. Posting notices in the door of URGENCY! It was ridiculous. I am selling our family home and I am in constant contact with this company about the progress and yet month after month they post urgent notices on his front door to contact them ASAP. The person posting the notice does not knock on the door - she just posts it and then takes a picture. The last thing I want on the front door is this notice (see picture) when I am trying to sell the house and RE Agents are bringing potential buyers in. It is a privacy breach as well as the current loan status is no one else's business. The Reverse Mortgage companies could care less about the death of your loved one. THEY WANT THEIR MONEY. There are no people skills involved, you will not speak to the same person or an "estate department" - Unless you are in dire financial straights - I would avoid using a reverse mortgage company. My Dad didn't listen and now the process is on me to deal with this company and have an allotted time frame to do it in. read more

I'm in the middle of a deed in lieu of foreclosure process. Each time I call to find out what's going on, I get a different agent. I cannot get a straight answer. I have asked for escalation, for specific details. The agent is completely scripted. They give me different answers. The mail is sent weeks later, no use of email or phone. I have specifically emphasized that I can be at the property quickly. That I am available to send information. They are making me work, causing me stress, undermining my role in my family, I am spending my waning years chasing phone calls. Do not get a reverse mortgage. Follow the majority here. RMs will make you sick, and destroy your family relations with lack of communication and speed. These are the days of CoVid. Do we really need a snail's pace for "paperwork?" Who gave these people the right to make our lives difficult. read more

ONE review argues most people to do completely understand the Reverse Mortgages, properly known as a HECM - Home Equity Conversion Mortgage. This is largely true. There is counseling and distinct guidelines with HUD that must be taken PRIOR to closing a HECM. HOWEVER, the fact is Celink is horribly incapable of handling even the basic transactions in an efficient & timely manner. I am a financial advisor and know numerous people that help underwrite and get these loans placed. They too have admitted the ongoing & consistent inefficiencies, delays & mistakes customers experience with Celink. I speak from personal experience & a very well documented file regarding their service issues. There is SO much more I could say, but I will not devote more time to this. Thought you should know what is happening width Celink today. I gave one star because there are no zeros or NEGATIVE numbers. I'd say -10. TO BE CLEAR, Celink is NOT the lender/mortgage company. They SERVICE the loans, poorly! read more

A horrible company to deal with . My elderly Mother and father had a fire in their home 8/2019 the insurance company promptly sent a check for roughly $200,000. Celink sat on the money and wouldn't remit funds back to my parents. I finally called the state banking commission. They sent letters and we finally where able to get paid for completed work but we had to get lawyers involved. Fast forward to 10/16/2023 the repairs are about complete but I'm still having problems collecting funds to pay the contractor and once again had to threaten to get the Banking Commission involved and after sending emails almost every day for the last month I finally received an email and a call back. read more

Had water damage due to loss of portion of the roof on my home Farmers Insurance was excellent in approving the complete replacement of the roof which was accomplished over a month ago . Farmers had to send the funds to Celink. Roof was inspected by Farmers and the City Building Inspector. Now Celink has cashed the check and refuses to remit to the Roofing Company. All you get is the run around. As of January 3rd they state it won't be handled until at least February. When you call they all have the same response and will not allow you to speak to anyone higher up Supervisors are not available read more

This company has caused my 86-year-old uncle an unbelievable amount of stress. They gave him and his insurance company the runaround to validate he had homeowners' insurance and charge him a fee because they keep saying they did not receive it. Now he is trying to pay a small loan balance off to close his account and gave him an estimated pay off amount. They sent the check back because it was over the amount. UNBELIEVABLE! They also denied me as a third party authorized person to talk about his account because they claim his signature did not match. He is 86 and in bad health so now his signature is shacky. Do not allow a loved one to do business with this company. They are ruthless!! read more

Do not use this company. They are very unprofessional and rude. Reverse Mortgages are a very bad idea unless you have no other choice. After signing escrow papers and the escrow closed Celink demanded more money from me. Said they made a mistake. I am fully Power of Attorney for my aunt. I have sent in all the documents required by this entity. They asked that my aunt call to verify that I am the Power of Attorney. She did. I signed a document on behalf on my aunt's behalf and they said I didn't have that ability. Then why did you request the original Power of Attorney, a copy of my drivers license, my notarized, original signature? You can speak to me about the loan, but I can't sign anything, yet the Power of Attorney furnished allows me to sign on her behalf. In addition she called and told you that. As with another reviewer, everytime I call, I get a different response to the same question. read more

If you find yourself in a relationship with this company, get out as quickly as you can. They do not answer questions. They do not take a pragmatic approach to processing the sale of a home following a borrower's death. It takes them a minimum of 5-7 days to post documents you send them. It takes them ten or more days to respond to simple requests such as a payout statement. Despite their intake delays, there are no such delays in them sending harassing parties to knock on front doors, leaving threatening messages, or in referring a home for foreclosure. You do not want to do business with these people. read more

Terrible. Unfortunately my Mother took out a loan with them right before she died. They have no dedicated Estate team and I have spoken with 4 different reps there, each telling me different requirements of documents needed before the 60 day deadline where they start foreclosure. I emailed all the docs, received receipt email confirmation from them, followed up 8 days later with a call and they had no record of the docs and couldn't find them. I hung up, called back, they suggested I fax the documents. they put me on hold after I asked to speak to another rep, then suddenly they found everything. This is how they make money. They know grieving families have a lot to do. 60 days goes fast then they take it all. Beware of this company. read more

Terrible service. My mother has had her loan for about nineteen years, never a problem with Financial Freedom. Now Celink says she had a lapse of insurance for one month. They force-placed insurance and dropped her distribution from over $1100 to just over $400 and say that's a permanent calculation that they can't redo. There was no lapse, they won't let anyone speak with a supervisor or manager, and won't give access to their distribution department. Complete crappola! read more

Do not have anything to do with this company! Do not get a reverse mortgage! My father had one with them. When he died we immediately got a letter saying "so sorry for your loss and oh by the way your loan is now in arrears and if you don't pay it off right now we'll foreclose on your house." Our probate attorney sent them everything they asked for to prove that we were moving ahead with listing & selling the house, and they still started foreclosure proceedings. They called me all the time to tell me we'd better pay up. Each time I referred them to the attorney who was keeping track of all correspondence. A week after the house sold and the escrow company sent the wire payment to the reverse mortgage holder, someone taped a bunch of papers about foreclosing on the house to the door - not in an envelope, just taped to the front door - signed by someone from Celink that stated we had not sent in the proper documentation. Apart from the horrible way they treat people, this is clearly a very poorly run organization. read more

Rev Mtg worked well for my parents but once they both had passed away, working with Celink / Finance of America Reverse was a nightmare. Each time they were contacted for assistance we had to go through the long process of voice mails and being directed to someone else, then emailing information to them and asking for assistance and the replies would say to call. Rarely would they respond and when they did we would get different answers depending on who we spoke to. We had a buyer for the house within a month and each week I would notify them by phone and/or email giving them and update to the status. First we had to clean out 60+ years of items collected by our parents, then complete the sale of the home. I asked them if they needed any documentation regarding the contract for the sale of the home and never received a rely from them. The entire process was completed in less than 90 days, well within the time frame we were all told we had, which was a year. Celink / Finance of America said we did not provide the the necessary documentation, which I had offered on multiple occasions but did not get a response from them telling me what to send. They sent the account to collections who started the process of putting a lien on the property, which cost the estate and additional $1100.00 to clear. I filed complaints with them and the BBB and their response was to flood me with copies of documents and paperwork I already had, multiple times. The first person I spoke to when I called to notify them of my mothers death had the nerve to laugh when I told her my mother had died. They don't give a crap and will not assist you. Their customer service is terrible. DO YOUSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT DO BUSINESS IN ANY FASHION WITH THIS COMPANY !!!!! read more

Celink may only be a servicer but they are responsible for questionable business practices and general ineptitude. On my father's reverse mortgage, they accelerated his mortgage loan even though he was alive and had only been out of the house for a few months in recovery...they had no legal right to do so and even after we pointed this out to them, Celink and its counsel failed to take any corrective action and still continue to seek foreclosure. Pending in court but there cannot be any dispute as to our defense. Waste of time. In addition, the property was damaged and Celink had procured insurance on my father's behalf. However we were unable to get any information as to the actual policy and were not able to notify the insurance company. We notified Celink but by the time we were given the correct insurance information and filed a claim, the insurance company denied the claim as untimely. We now are litigating that issue in our counterclaims. Stay away! read more

This company it in a category by themselves, they are not the best for sure. Tried to take my fathers home before he was buried. A WWII vet children did not know what to do. We are trying to bury my father and they are worry about their money and especially the house we had for over 40 years. We tried to pay them off but did not want it. We got a Attorney and was asked to stop the interest while we have the house up for sale - they did it for a couple of months and started it right back up without use knowing. Then they put their ad in the paper as a foreclosure months after we finally buried my Dad. Dirty crooks. They should not be in busy at all. The tried a fraud with FDA by collecting interest against them and got caught. You have to watch them - they are no good. God don't like ugly! read more

This company is terrible. My mother has had a reverse mortgage for about 12 years with financial freedom and has had no problems until this company took her loan over. Just recently she received a threatening letter that stated she had no insurance and that they were going to purchase it for her. She has had insurance for years with her association and her own personal. She did as they asked and sent a copy of the association insurance in and made a call about a week later to make sure they had received it. They told her they had not so she got a fax number from them and faxed a copy of it in and followed up with a call to make sure they had received it. They told her they had not and that it would take 7 days. She has since then made several calls all telling her they don't have it. I asked her to get an e-mail and I would send it directly to that persons email account. The e-mail was incorrect so she called again this morning to try and get it again and instead she got the person she was trying to e-mail to on the Phone . This man was very rude to her and proceeded to tell her he didn't care when she mailed or faxed in her Insurance papers that she would hear from them in about seven days and that he did not want to hear from her again. She is 81 years old, has lost her husband and trying to make it on her own and trying to follow thru for what they asked for. She is very upset and worried that they are going to charge her for something she already has and pays for. This company who is a reverse mortgage company is very unprofessional and has very poor customer service. No professional company should be rude to anyone especially the elderly. read more

My mother died 3 weeks ago today. The first thing I heard from Celink was a call from an appraiser 16 days after my mother's death. I was outraged. When I called Celink, the rep I talked to said that they DO NOT let their mail be forwarded. How is the decedents family supposed to know what is going on if they get no correspondence or notifications from Celink regarding what they require. The rep I talked to was NOT helpful at all. She couldn't wait to tell me that the WILL take control of the home, by having the locks changed. When I asked if they were making any accommodations to families because of the Corona Virus Pandemic, she said "No, business as usual". I had to drag out what will be required of me as my Mom's Personal Representative in order for them to leave us alone so that we can either buy the house or sell it. I have a Reverse Mortgage on my home, serviced by Celink. I can assure your that I intend to refinance my house so that my children don't have to deal with Celink. From what I have seen, this company has zero customer service, empathy or ethics. I hope I am wrong, because we are just starting on this journey of dealing with all of the belongings that a person who lives to be 90 years old collects in their lifetime, not to mention trying to either sell her home in these uncertain times, or secure financing to buy it ourselves. Shame on you, Celink. read more

Our reverse mortgage is being serviced by Celink. Earlier this year we were late in paying the second installment of our property taxes. We eventually paid in April, then learned from Celink that they had paid the same amount to our County tax office. Since then we have made 2 phone calls to Celink and received what can only be described as snotty and threatening treatment. We have the receipt from our debit card payment, but Celink won't accept that documentation. I was told by the county that Celink should simply request a refund. That Celink has refused to do - insisting that we obtain documentation direct from the County and forward that to them. The only way I could "possibly"'do that would be to go in person to the County and get a "printout." I am disabled from Polio, my wife has Multiple Sclerosis and can't deal with the hassle of going down to the County office and "possibly" getting a printout. Celink obviously has the address of the tax office and obviously has the financial incentive to get its money back, yet won't act. The last straw was when the customer rep., Patty, told me that if I didn't provide the documentation we would be in default on our mortgage and Celink would forclose! This is insane. That a company like this is in charge of dealing with seniors, many of them unable to fight back against this kind of treatment is sad and shocking. read more

Celink needs a makeover in a big way. I've had so many problems across the board in dealing with them that I filed a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Overall, customer service is abysmal. In all fairness, some of the representatives are helpful and professional. That being said, it is hard to get through to a representative. I try and give everyone latitude, especially since the pandemic started. However, my last two encounters were not good. When I did finally get through to a representative, on two separate occasions, they were extremely rude, unhelpful, and unprofessional. I understand that a lot of people are working from home, but it's annoying when you hear the dogs barking and kids screaming in the background. Don't take your frustrations out on me if your house is chaos. The good news is that Celink finally entered the 21st century when they added an online client portal. I realize mortgage services are federally regulated and have to follow guidelines, however poor customer service is inexcusable. read more

STAY AWAY FROM CELINK IF YOU CAN! Someone dear to us passed away and left us their home via Trust. Unfortunately they had a reverse mortgage on the home managed by Celink. Over the course of the next six months or so, we reached out to Celink multiple times to try and both obtain information, as well as provide information to them. We found that it took forever to get through the automated answering system to reach a human being.
