Both cats do not like to be without the other so when it came time to be looked at, neither came out. Instead of letting my husband coax the cat out, the vet picked up the carrier and dumped my pets on the table like trash. He did not allow my pets to get used to their environment. He immediately stuck instruments in their eyes and ears which scared them, and rather than showing them it was okay he immediately pinned them to the table. Both cats are visibly sore the next day. When I go to the vet I expect the vet to treat them with care and empathy, just as I would expect a pediatrician to be gentle with my child, or a doctor to be empathetic with me.

He is stern but honest and seems very knowledgeable, up-to-date, and fair in his treatment of animals. We were able to get our cat treated as we wished, but also learned a lot from Dr. Teachout and will return there for more care. The vet tech/assistant was also incredibly helpful and informative, and the front desk worker could not have been more kind or polite. My only complaint would be logistic -- they could use more seating in their lobby, but that's a small complaint to the utter insanity we dealt with at the two previous vets here in Yankton.

I decided to adopt him the next morning if I could get the required health certificate needed for her to fly in cargo later that day (too large to fly in cabin). I called the minute they opened and asked to be squeezed in that morning. A health certificate and a very quick check up (basically, listening to heart) takes 10-15 minutes. It's a simple form, quick exam. The dog was young, healthy, had all shots. Their "caring, compassionate team," as stated on their website, refused to help. This was life or death for a sweet, young dog, who had received no adoption prospects for months. Thanks Siouxland Animal Hospital! Saving a dog's life, obviously, would have been too big of an inconvenience and might have cut into your lunch.
