I met Alan through his publicly offered classes for Tactical Pistol I and Tactical Pistol II through the Ocala Sportsman Association. I had been looking for a qualified instructor to expand my novice++ pistol skills. I had already experienced concealed carry but was struggling to find the right firearm / holster not to mention experiencing real-life firearm draw and firing (every range I'd been to before forbids it).
With Alan's help I discovered my existing firearms were too large and or too small for tactical concealed carry. In a separate personal 1-on-1 training class (Alan also offers for a very reasonable price) Alan provided several of his large collection of different concealed carry pistols and I found one that was perfect for me and promptly ordered / received a correct size firearm for concealed carry.
Alan did not stop there and he continued to support my efforts with recommendations on a best overall red-dot optic (provided a copy of an existing $100 rebate currently being offered by the manufacturer, and a source that had one at a total price several hundred lower, BEFORE rebate, compared to local gun shops) and steered me to the best after-market suppressor iron sights (higher so you can see iron sights through the optic / red dot in the event the battery in the red dot fails) AND installed the iron sights for me for a lower price than a local gunsmith would (which by the way I have had a hard time finding lately??),
Alan's Tactical Pistol classes are usually limited to ten (10) maximum students and to be honest I was a bit concerned about safety etc. (people drawing loaded firearms from a holster, maybe some for the first time) For my classes he held them at the Aries Training Center, a BEAUTIFUL outdoor range and I have since joined Ares as I was already looking for a new range to join and probably would have never gone there on my own to check it out (although I'd heard great things about Ares). Alan had second NRA certified instructor helping with both classes and safety was top notch / first class. Both classes had less than 5 students.
Last Thursday I shot 100 rounds at a close local indoor range (yuck) with my new red dot and suppressor sights set up for the first time (shooting separately using the red dot only and Iron sights only) to independently verify both sights "calibration" and emailed the target results to Alan.
Alan provided immediate feedback on the shooting results, and I feel very confident my new concealed carry setup is what I was looking for. Now I just need many many more hours of range practice. I will no doubt be working with Alan further in the future.
PS: Alan knows pretty much everything there is to know about dry-fire / in-home computer aided etc. shooting / training practice so if you are interested in that he can be a valuable assist there as well. read more
