We recorded 5 songs recently and everyone in our entire band was extremely happy with the results. We worked with Benny who is a very skilled engineer. He's very quick with Pro Tools and he works very efficiently. He is able to achieve great results in a short amount of time. He has amazing 'ears' and he can hear every little detail of every sound. He doesn't need to spend a lot of time working on microphone placement or other important details like that, he seems to just know what works and he's able to get a great sound pretty much instantaneously. He's very receptive to the artist's input and ideas. He's very laid back, respectful and easy to work with... and for a band of all women, this is important! We all felt very comfortable. His assistant Sam was very helpful and skilled as well. I learned a lot from just watching them work. The studio itself is very nice as well. The rooms are well-treated acoustically and there's a ton of high quality outboard gear available. The prices are reasonable and definitely worth the level of quality.

Gone is the bathroom that triggers the gag reflex. (It's still not the cleanest, but at least I don't feel soiled after walking in) Instead we have clean hallways, doors that actually lock and stay that way, a decent amount of parking on the street outside, as well as a lot, and plenty of power. It's reasonably priced, and as long as you've got a way to get to the fairly isolated location (not really near the T) then you've got a place to make all the noise you want.

The engineers, interns, and crew are top notch; not to mention the comfort, quiet, and quality of the studios and gear. You can even get real with plate reverb. The associate I communicated with over e-mail was a poor communicator and failed to follow up after I inquired. It was only after I called and talked to Tim that I was able to setup a meeting. I brushed that off, however, as a new employee or them simply having a bad day. To my surprise, Tim, the founder, was even more unprofessional. Shortly after meeting him in the studio, Tim began spouting conspiracy theories about vaccines and global politics. I felt very uncomfortable but focused my efforts on being polite. Tim mentioned that his marketing team had warned him about sharing these conspiracies, but he persisted nonetheless. I was ready to setup a recording session but was turned off by Tim's unprofessional demeanour. Even worse, Tim e-mailed several paragraphs of conspiracy theories at 1 AM several days after we met. Unless you are willing to endure Tim's alarming political views, I would suggest looking elsewhere for your recording needs.

But time and again, Bristol Studios has exceeded my expectations and earned my trust. I originally discovered Bristol when my vocal coach used their rehearsal rooms. I noticed they offered sound engineering classes and decided to give them a try. The curriculum is somewhat fluid, which might not work for everyone, but for me, it's been a gift. I'm currently taking ongoing classes with Chris Billias--an exceptionally talented working musician with an incredible ear. We work directly on my original songs, diving into everything from musicality and rhythm to arrangement, mixing, and mastering.
