While the risotto - part of the vegetarian menu - was great according to my parents and GF, the "escaloppe de veau" I was served was completely overcooked, lacking in spice, salt or any form of sauce - aka flavorless. Same thing for the tagliatelle coming with them. They were overcooked and uninspiring at best - lacking in sauce amount or sauce quality. The desert selection was not exactly inspiring either. However, putting aside the small details of the gustative experience, this place remains rather decent.

Nous sommes arrivés un soir où la réception était fermée et avons du appeler au téléphone une personne qui nous a aiguillé sur la façon de récupérer la clé. La chambre était décorée de façon moderne avec un très bon goût. Le lendemain nous avons pu voir que la salle a mangé était extrêmement bien décorée également. La prochaine fois on prendra le petit déjeuner, ça avait l'air vraiment bon et le cadre idéal. Je recommande vivement!

When I inquired about the status , the waitress instead of offering an explanation and apologizing for the very long delay started yelling at us. This was followed by an equally rude manager who told us we should be happy that they welcomed us in their establishment. I have never been treated so rudely and received such a poor service as a paying customer. Avoid at all cost!

It's a small menu and just about everything that's not on the prix fixe menus was out (a rabbit dish that looked great, and 1-2 other things on the menu). Entrees were good (soup and foie gras), but main plates were both underwhelming. I had two tiny fillets of fish on top of a lot of peppers while my wife had a large cut of steak which was prepared "perfectly cooked" in French which of course comes out rare most of the time per French preferences. Unfortunately this cut of meat was very tough and virtually inedible at this temperature unless cut into tiny little pieces - if it was "medium rare" by UK/American standards it would have been great but not so much when served blue. My wife left a portion of her steak, and I left quite a bit of my plate which wasn't remotely exciting or worth eating. The cheese plate however is worth getting, and my dessert was pretty good plus they had some nice glass pours to pair with both my foie gras and dessert. Prices are quite reasonable for the high end atmosphere and service, and the dining room has a nice fireplace which I'm sure is great in the winter. One couple in the restaurant apparently even left their dog with the folks at hotel/restaurant reception and then picked up their dog after finishing their meal. That's high end service, I just wish our main courses had the same attention to detail. Yet, I would still return - and hope they had the braised rabbit with spaetzle available that night...

We knew that because the woman at St. Nicolai Hotel, who spoke English, was nice enough to go online and check several other hotels in town for us since her hotel was also full. She also made several phone calls, and located a hotel in Ribeauville fifteen minutes away that had a couple of rooms still available. We were looping back through Riquewhir at the end of our three week trip, so this time we booked ahead at St. Nicolai Hotel, and got our German friends to meet us there. They were pleased to discover German was also spoken. Our friends booked ahead for parking, but we managed to find a pay parking spot outside the city walls for the same price. We met up in the cute lobby which has decent wifi and a nice sitting area, since the wifi doesn't work in the rooms. Yes, the wooden floors are creaky since this is a very old, quaint property, but all the plumbing fixtures and flooring have been updated. Our room was very clean, and the best part is you are on a quiet side street of this wonderful historic village. By booking a night, you can wander the streets and taste wine after the tour buses have left for the day. Hotel prices are reasonable. We didn't opt for breakfast, but the restaurant looked nice, and we only found one bakery open. Prices were lower at the bakery, but it would have been more convenient to breakfast at the hotel.
