As a new renter, the landlord wanted the water bill in my name. So on March 18, 2024 We went to the CUDA office on Old Mill Road. Got a one page rental info form. Completed the form. The owner of the property is living abroad for the last 6 years. His Brother and caretaker of the property completed the form and turned the form in, I was given a contract in my name the renter with a deposit paid by me and we leave the office and I never hear anything from them. I get back to the property and the water is on. So I assume everything is good.
Fast Forward to Monday April 8, 2024. I get back from work and there is no water. Its after hours I called and a very helpful after hours man comes on the phone cant explain why the water meter was locked so he comes out and unlocks it for me and I have water for the night.
Now the Crazy part. I called their office and I get transferred to Christy Barrett. She informs me the water is off because its on illegally ( Her Words ). That I was supposed to get the original Rental Information sheet from the Property owner, not the caretaker or anyone else and have it, the exact matching copy from 3 weeks earlier emailed to her or else she was removing the meter from the property by April 10.
So I go to the owners brother and he tries to email her the document. Well its not the same, word for word, same handwriting markings from the owner overseas. She accuses me of trying to "Pull a fast one and do something underhanded and again I am a liar."
So I relay this to the caretaker and he only speaks to the owner via messenger and not via any phone number. So the only option is to leave work with the caretaker bring him to the CUDA office on Old Mill.
Christy begins by calling the caretaker a liar and something funny is going on. The caretaker puts his brother - the owner on the speaker phone in front of Christy Barrett and the owner tries to go to the website and fill out the form. Note; his is a 71 year old computer novice. So before he even gets started, Christy Barrett tells this man over the phone, "Just send an email to the customer service email address stating he is the owner and I am the renter and its OK to turn the water on in my name."
So if that is all Christy needed then why was I, the renter not given this option. Why, was the caretaker of the property not given this an as option. Mind you she had the same information on her proper form since March 18, 2024. She arbitrarily turned off my water without any notice on April 8, 2024. Required me to take up 6 hours of my day driving to her office being called a liar and a water thief, despite the fact I have an account number and contract with CUDA dated March 18,2024. I had to go to the caretakers place of employment and make him leave work to handle this issue.
When Christy Barrett heard the man's voice on the phone, she did not validate that it was in fact the property owner. It could have been some guy around the corner talking into the phone.
And now this Rental Information form that she, had to have or else, was not really required, just an email from somebody she doesn't even know to be the true owner of the property.
Who is the Liar now??????? Apparently, the form wasn't really even necessary. But because, in her opinion, she thought something slick was going on she refused to deal with the people standing in her office as valid customers but a phone call and an email from some location solves the problem.
Why did I have to go thru all this for a $ 30.00 water bill a month. Great way to treat your customers no matter how small. This cost 6 hours away from work and who knows how much in gas at todays prices to complete.
