Something for everyone in a very clean and organized store that makes you feel like shopping and seeing everything there is. Not a big place but has plenty to offer. The Tasting Room is a bar/restaurant that is owned by Epicuse. My friend and I went there Tuesday night for their Downtown Dining Week special. This was a first visit for both of us. We walked in at 5pm on a Tuesday and had our choice of tables. We picked a small table next to the wall to be further away from the chill of the door opening. We were greated immediately by the sweet bartender who was also taling care of the tables at that point. At the table there was a carafe of water and glasses. I can't tell you how much I appreciate when restaurants do this. I drink a lot of water and it's nice to have it available. The ambiance of the room was nice. Candle on the table, string lights throughout, and local artwork on the walls that feature a new collection each month. Our server/bartender got our drink order right away. I had a glass of wine and my friend ordered one of their cocktails that she said was amazing. For the dining week special we each got an appetizer, entree, and dessert for $30. Appetizers Goat Cheese with Roasted Beets. Overall delicious. The goat cheese was very overpowering though so it may benefit from more beets, maybe an addition of a beet sauce, and or some sort of cracker or pita. Cheese Tasting Plate. Delicious. Could use more that 3 crackers. Best bleu cheese I've ever had. It literally just melted in your mouth. The jam that came on the plate was fantastic and unusual. Some sort of bacon jam that was really smoky. My friend liked it so much she tracked it down next door in Epicuse to purchase it. Entree We both ordered the Chicken and Jambalaya. I'm not a person who ever orders chicken but I really wanted the jambalaya. Lol. Both were fantastic. I do not like Chicken with skin usually but the skin was so fantastically crispy, the chicken was tender, and that jambalaya was amazing. Perfect amount of heat and so much flavor. Dessert They served us the Dessert Flight and it was stunning. Cannoli, Tirimisu, and Chocolate Pot de Crème. It was fantastic and the perfect ending to a great meal. Throughout the entire meal many staff checked on us. The service was outstanding. As we were finishing it was definitely filling up for their Tuesday Trivia night which starts at 7. Before leaving be sure and check out Epicuse, the attached store, for many local foods and treats as well as an assortment of wine and liquor. Music was wonderful. Since it was a birthday for one of our party, they got a free drink on the house, which was a nice touch. About the only negative was being seated near the front door. This is a great little boutique grocery shop. Need a cool cheese to bring to a party? A unique healthy snack? A crunchy salad to enjoy at home? A nice local jam? The tastiest hot sauces?! Okay, about that last bit- I'm a hot sauce fan, and a bunch of the brands Epicuse carries such as Queen Majesty, Small Axe Peppers, Karma, and Zombie Apocolypse, are sauces I have seldom seen in stores locally, and thought I'd only be able to acquire online. Now with my hot sauce fangirling out of the way, Epicuse is clean and well organized. For a small store they pack a lot in without being crowded. I've had fun browsing their shelves to try something new. They I have had lunch from the counter once or twice, and it was good. I recommend going earlier in the day, or calling ahead as they can be sold out of certain items if you're a late lunch-er like I am. So, yeah, give Epicuse a whirl. read more

I don't know why I would head into it, except on a whim. It's a nice store with a cute selection of goods. As a boutique it seems aimed at a higher spending individual, brands that are recognized by a certain crowd, and some local products. The sandwiches have been tasty. The tasting room has been the letdown for me. Almost every time, there has been some event loudly drowning us out, and staff that seems overworked by managing our tables and the event at the same time. I will skip it and just head to one of the many options nearby. This place steals the tips from the delivery Drivers and misappropriate the funds from the customers utilizing the service, thus scamming the platforms, customers and delivery drivers. They have orders come through on DoorDash and then try to cancel the order so they can use the platform, steal the tips from the delivery drivers assigned the order and the time it took the drivers to find out at the store that someone else picked it up, EVEN THOUGH THEY DELIVERED IT TO STEAL THE TIPS from the ASSIGNED DRIVERS. If they have no scruples about doing this to Delivery Drivers, imagine what they may do to Screw over the customer themselves. read more

This is a cute spot to hang out. There's 2 parts. One side is a store where you can purchase things like wine, cheese, food items and a variety of other things. The other section is a sit down tasting room and cheese bar where you can enjoy a nice drink, some food items, and depending on the day music. They have live performances almost weekly. Follow them on Facebook to keep up with their events and hot items they have available This place is very unique and a great addition to the downtown area. It's also a great place for gift shopping. A nice option for meals- especially on Sundays when basically no place is open downtown. Luckily, epicuse is serving food! they have a nice lunch special- sandwich/wrap with homemade chips, cookies, and a drink for $10. They have a lot of nice side salads- we enjoyed the tomato cucumber; would pass on caprese (poor quality mozzarella), mac and cheese. lots of fun snacks in the shop. there is no hand sanitizer so def bring your own.... probably a three star experience but the fact that they are open on Sundays gets them the extra star read more

Went here tonight with some friends for Syracuse eating club! Cute place with outdoor seating and various options for snacks. For food it is sides galore and in the back is the bar. We ordered shared size of the charcuterie board, chicken cesar salad, potato salad, the Friday night special flatbread and banana fosters cheesecake which was my favorite part! Will definitely be back, it was the perfect outing with friends and we definitely want to try more dessert as well as come back to try that flight! read more

A very cute boutique gourmet food shop. Quite a few local products are featured, including Pasta's famous spicy tomato oil, Syracuse salt, local cheeses. (I have no doubt that as the store grows, so will their offerings of Central NY foods.) I'm putting together a gift basket of Syracuse eats for my family, and I was able to make a solid start of it here. They also have a fully stocked counter full of prepared foods and baked goods- the pastries were very tempting, but I abstained this time, in anticipation of my holiday sweet consumption. (Next time though, I may have to try one of those homemade pop tarts.) All in all, a nice addition to downtown. read more

This is a review for the Tasting Room, not the store. We visited for lunch prior to a show at Landmark theater. Nice space--obviously dual-purpose for events but nicely designed. I had made a reservation since I never know what pre-theater traffic is like. We usually go to Oh My Darling but it's sometimes difficult to get a table so I thought I'd try a new place. I mentioned to the bartender that we had reservations and she had some snarky reply, something to the effect: That doesn't really apply today so sit anywhere (there were a lot of empty tables). My bad for planning ahead. We chose a table and were presented the lunch menu -- a nice assortment of sandwiches and wraps, soup and salad. Asked the server what was the soup -- blank look. Oh, there's no soup, we ran out (they opened a half hour before). Ok.. I chose one of the grilled cheese-- asked the server what the Danish grilled cheese--blank look. I'll go ask. It was actually a really nice sandwich with Harvarti, pancetta, and grilled onions, served with homemade potato chips and a chocolate chip cookie. Food was good if not exactly inspired. Service was slow and a bit uninformed but what is really tanking the review was the end of lunch. My friend and I were lingering (we were early for the show), I was finishing my wine. A server took the plates... and then the silver.. and then the water glasses..... and finally took the napkins off our laps! That was a first in my dining experiences for sure. This is a review for the Tasting Room. The food is average, at best, but the service is really subpar (with the exception of Dylan). About a month ago, I ordered nachos with an add on of the burnt ends. What showed up at my table was a plate of chips with maybe an ounce max of cheese and burnt ends, nothing else. The menu described having black beans, pico, and other things. The server ignored us for a long time, and I finally flagged her down. Anyway...What a hassle! She had to physically look at the menu to 'prove' me wrong, apparently? When she read it, she eventually brought it back to be remade. When I say remade, I mean rerun through the heater, leaving me with severely burned chips. It was absolutely disgusting. Since I was made to seem crazy before (and I was also really hungry at that point), I attempted to eat what I could. About 30 minutes later she came back to see how they were. I was honest and said they were totally burned and pretty awful. Then she ran off and I was presented for a bill for $12. Truly, it has to be really bad for me to complain. The good news is I tell this nacho story a lot (if only I'd taken pictures!) and it gets a lot of good laughs. What restaurant would ever think it acceptable to send out basically a plate of chips? I saw the response to the other driver that went for the pick up from Epicuse. This has also happened to me and it seems management is trying to grasp at stones at Epicuse. The Drivers that do get the cater orders have the catering bags and any essentials need to complete the order. If they use the DoorDash Platform or for that ANY platform to get the orders then try to cancel the order, they are misusing the Delivery App Platform. The employees outright Lie and tell the drivers another driver picked up the order. If they had canceled the order as they said or DoorDash didn't have a driver then why did a driver show up? This establishment is not only being shady they are also stealing the time from the drivers going to pick up the order and the store delivered them by their own people. The Business Owner Nicole S.'s response to the other driver is pure Nonsense in her explanation as other drivers are now sharing their experiences with so-called canceled orders or any other bogus excuse given by Epicuse. DoorDash customer Support also informed the driver that Epicuse hung up on them when they were trying to get an answer from Epicuse. Also it seems the staff behind the counter gets rude to the drivers and never have a valid explanation. As more and more driver's start discussing this in the Syracuse Drivers forum and FaceBook, what really is happening at Epicuse is coming to light. read more

Might be - if the service wasn't provided by an overly exuberant (possibly high on life) hipster who made sure to let us know that he was a bartender and not a food server who happened to have his health department food-server license in his back pocket. The drinks were warm (we were warned at least). But I just couldn't help feeling that we'd be lucky if we did not get food poisoning. We did not. But the service left us wary. I wanted to love this place - so much so that I went twice. Despite horrible service the first time. And now again the second. I rarely write reviews, but can't NOT do so in this case because I don't want anyone to experience what we did. On opening night of Hamilton, my family and I (party of three) had 5:30 PM reservations. We should have had plenty of time to eat and get to the show. Things started off well - my mother and daughter received their drinks while I was parking the car. But my drink arrived 25 minutes after I ordered it. Not an auspicious start to the second visit. We ordered very simple meals - two basic sandwiches, one 3-course theatre menu (that is "guaranteed" you will receive it in time for the show), and a starter of Brussels sprouts. The sprouts arrived first. They were almost raw and completely inedible. My daughter never received her starter - caprese salad that was probably plated ahead to save time. Our server never checked back on us. Several times in the next 45 minutes, we very politely asked about the rest of our meal to other servers who walked past our table. We were reassured each time that it was coming. Every single table in the restaurant received their meals except us - despite being the second table seated. Fast forward to 7:05 PM. Still no food. People were lining up outside the restaurant window to get into the 7:30 PM show. I had to walk up to the bar to get anyone's attention. I offered to pay for our drinks, and thankfully, they declined. The server made a salty comment to me about the poor service being because of (Hamilton) opening night jitters. But I knew better because it's the second time it's happened to me. My boyfriend and I had almost the same experience when we went to see Waitress in October (he got his meal - I didn't). Twice now I've been there, and the only thing I've managed to eat is a couple, very undercooked Brussels sprouts. The place is adorable, it's local, and my drink was decent. But I cannot recommend the food or the service. We had almost nothing to eat before an almost 3 hour show. To say it was disappointing is an understatement. Two nights later, a colleague went before Hamilton. They had reservations, ordered off the special theatre menu, and had a very similar, very poor experience. We stopped at an odd hour, 2 o'clock for lunch. Turned out Epicuse mostly a fun gourmet market. From the counter we could order sandwiches or small prepared meals from a case. My husband opted for a wrap. I had a grilled chicken breast on top of cuban beans and rice. The food was really good, lovingly prepared. Michael could not have been more gracious.Epicuse has no tables but he set us up in the restaurant half of the shop and we were able to enjoy our lunch with a nice glass of wine and exchange jokes with Michael. I've had a few different things from Epicuse. Everything I've had has totally blown me away. Most recently i had the Eggplant Lasagne... it is going on the list of 'best things i've ever eaten.' AND it was inexpensive with a large portion. Their prepared food case is something that Danny Wegman needs to learn a few lessons from. Not to mention the grocery selection is wicked cool, the location of the shop is awesome, and even the name of the place is clever. Give this place a visit! read more

We had the Mediterranean veggie, olive and cheese platter which was delightful. He sampled a Bourbon, while I had a wine flight, they were both quite good. The staff is very pleasant and attentive.
