Mitchell, Eli, Morgan, Monica, Jasmine, Nat, Asia, Jen, and the FIT gang made me feel welcomed! It's got indoor/outdoor turf, a pool, a hot tub, and equipment that looks straight out of a sci-fi movie. It's high-tech yalls! Views of Downtown and Little Italy? Chef's kiss. They've got eucalyptus steam rooms, fresh towels, spacious lockers and showers, and even grab-and-go drinks and snacks. I basically never want to leave. Group classes are where it's at: yoga, HIIT, dance, and even reformer Pilates (yes, I feel fancy). Booking through the app is a breeze. The gym is always clean, never overcrowded, and yes people wipe down machines. Germaphobes, rejoice! Worth it? Because health is wealth and this place makes fitness feel like luxury. I've done Pilates/ Lagree enough to know sort of what I'm doing and I've been to multiple studios. The class and instructor were good, no complaints. I do think the reformers need work, they have torn leather (how can they be properly wiped down?) and some have a half soft/half hard front platform that's seems uneven and unsafe. There's also some that have a hard front platform with a loose pad on top which seems unsafe to stand on as well. I saw a business response to another review about these issues and the response said the reformers are "vintage" to match the beach location and I think that is really weird, they need to be kept in good repair.

If, however, you're looking for a holistic workout based on years of neuroscience research, and optimizing the way your brain talks to your body, then this is the place for you. This workout is as much about the "why" of exercise as it is about the "what." It's hard to describe the training sessions in practical terms, as the methods are so novel that saying "we do this and then this" just wouldn't do it justice. With that being said, I'll tell you why I like it: * Dave, our trainer, knows his stuff. He's spent years studying nutrition, neuroscience, kinesiology, kinaesthetics and lots of other big-word-ologies. He takes this knowledge and wisdom and tailors sessions not only suited to your long term goals, but also to your physical/mental condition at the moment. He meets you where you are, and works to elevate you from there. * It's fun. Dave incorporates play and mental stimulation into a lot of the exercises. Rather than working the vestibular system through movements around a visual stimulus, he may change the stimulus to a set of letters, such that you have to come up with a word that starts with each letter as you move through the exercise. It's a lot harder than you'd think, but so much more engaging. You forget that you're exercising! * Dave loves what he does. He's passionate about his methods and an expert in his field. I've tried all the new circuit classes from Revel Fit, Renegade, OTF, F45, and I guarantee that no one will program or kick your a$$ like Bryan at Versatile Fitness! This is a no-frills, old boxing gym vibe (think OG Rocky) where you come to WORK! Bryan's programming, exercise acumen, and super sets will challenge you, but also be some of the most effective and productive workouts. He has almost every piece of equipment I've seen in a gym from rowers, ropes, barbells, curl bars, pulley systems, sleds, water weights, benches, kettlebells, free weights, Terra core, TRX, bands, discs, and the list goes on. I have attended about 10 classes and I have yet to repeat a workout. It's insane the quality of training and programming you would get through this gym for the price. Anywhere else, it would cost thousands for this level of programming, so anyone who attends these classes is getting a steal of a deal for this type of workout! Classes are 45min, with several stations per class. Each day has a target focus such as pull, push, leg, abs, and/or cardio, depending on the day. The target is there, but you are always getting a decent total body workout. Each station has 2-3 exercises that you do 2 sets per station. You have around 3 people per station, and then you rotate. Bryan goes around to demo each exercise as you move stations, and also has the workouts written on a whiteboard at the front of the room. Bryan will also provide quick corrections, as needed. Please note, in large group class settings, rarely will get you get alot of correction or instruction. It's not feasible to have that much personalized focus in these types of classes. Each class starts with a short warm-up, and a quick cooldown at the end. I have only taken class with Bryan, as he is the staple of this gym. He also has an extensive background with over 20yr of experience and he also offers some nutrition and personalized coaching programs for fat shredding and other fitness goals. This gym is a hidden gem and morning classes are usually full. I am literally perplexed how the afternoon classes are not exploding with members because I have yet to see anyone have the stellar exercise programming and versatility that Versatile Fitness provides. I've seen so many different trainers and attended many gyms, and Bryan's programming is the most innovative and BRUTAL (in the best way), that I've experienced. If you're looking for a serious SWEAT, a great community, and incredible workouts, VF is the spot!

Also, I cancelled a class because my cat was sick one morning and asked if they'd waive the fee and they did not I understand they have a cancellation policy, but I expected the fee to be waived due to the circumstances, especially since it was my first class ever cancelled. If your main focus is growing your posterior chain, especially glutes, this is a great gym for you. Their glutes lab RULES and is the best part about this gym. I wish the rest of the gym was as spacious and clean-feeling.

For context: I'm a former dancer and have taught in Bay Area gyms. The team including Erik and Jordan consistently go above and beyond for their members. Mark and the rooftop class crew will hand you your *ss in the best way. All this to say: I know it looks potentially intimidating.
