Because the Church is not a practicing church (there are no weekly services) they do as many as three weddings there a day on Saturdays and Sundays May-October. The up side of this is that your date is unlikely to be fully blocked out. The down side to this is that you have little buffer on either side of the ceremony to decorate and un-decorate the building. The inside of the church is well-restored and if you're into a super-new-england-yankee aesthetic, you're in for a treat. It's unique inside and out and the views of the surrounding mountains outside add to the ambiance. Another tiny set-back (but not enough to knock a star off in my opinion, there are too many great things about the space) is that those Yankee Protestants of the early 1800s were by an large a lot smaller than we are today, so the pews can be a little tight for larger (or pregnant) guests. Also, it's BYO - officiant-- so you can have the scenic, yankee, vermonty setting in a church and you can have your ceremony be any denomination you want...or none. Fab.

I didn't know the von Trapps were real until coming to Stowe, but they must be one of the town's founding families. I guess they fled from the Nazis and landed in Stowe, where they opened a lodge, restaurant, and brewery, and went around urging people to build churches and who knows what else. This is a remarkably beautiful church. The building looks like a traditional Catholic church crossed with a ski cabin, decked out in warm wood paneling. It's covered in paintings, both inside and out, done by renowned French artist Andre Girard, who apparently went around decorating churches in New York, California, and Vermont in the 1950s. The paintings have a distinctive, colorful modern style that differentiates this church building from all the others I've seen over the years. The stained glass windows are particularly cool. I guess all of the paintings depict the life of Stowe native Brother Dutton. The wedding was beautiful, and Blessed Sacrament proved to be a lovely, unique venue. I'm not Catholic, but I'm glad I got to see this church while I was in Stowe. For the wedding, obviously, but also the interesting art and architecture.

He built this church with his wife Elizabeth, and has shepherded the congregation since it's inception many years ago. He's a true MAN of God who has done so much for the Plattsburgh community (no, not just his parishioners). I can personally attest to this! If you are looking for a place to worship if you're new in the area, or just passing through our community, I would highly recommend coming over! You will find that the Word of God is preached right from the Bible, no "watered down to tickle your ears" sermons here. Pray, participate, or heckle (he's used to it from having yours truly in his congregation) you will find yourself filled, replenished and ready for the world outside. (He can get me motivated to where I want to take on the gates of hell with a squirt gun!) The building is very nice, always clean, several bathrooms and a downstairs nursery with CCTV. The church also has an adjoining "bookstore" with a variety of items and very reasonable prices. With all the variety I honestly don't know why it's called a "bookstore"... Oh yeah, they're also an equal opportunity employer which brings me to Pastor Jimmy (lol, just kidding you Jimmy)... Come on in, we're all family.
