What you need to find is consistency when you're dealing with a precious metals dealer. There are so many guys out there offering something one week and next your scratching head, did I piss him off some how? Not these guys. They has been very consistent with his pricing. Which is great cuz you can bank on him being where he says is today or 3 weeks from now. It's a big plus. read more

Friendly staff! possibly professional hustlers/salesman/pawn shop like feel. Not sure if they tricked me for my old coin, but just quoted me a figure based on the weight of silver. Calling and comparing around, they were pretty fair. Exchanged old piggy banks for a 8% (compared to 14% at machines at Safeway. They cool tho. Poker face individuals, but nice guys read more

I've been coming to Castro Valley Coin for about 4 years now, after dealing with a bunch of other coin and metal shops in the Bay Area, and Greg and Apollo are hands down the most honest and fair I've worked with. They've helped me facilitate several large precious metal transactions, both buying and selling, and every time the process has been straightforward, transparent, and professional. What really set them apart for me was when I needed help selling my grandfather's Babe Ruth autograph. Greg and Apollo basically acted as a trustee and escrow. I placed the item in their custody, they handled shipping it to an authentication service back east, and once it came back verified as genuine, they worked with that authentication company to get it listed and sold on eBay. The whole thing turned out perfect with smooth communication, careful handling, and no drama. Their fee was totally reasonable for the amount of work and responsibility involved. As a side note, I follow Bix Weir on YouTube and I know he's been here too, which honestly tracks because this is the kind of shop serious people stick with. I can't recommend Castro Valley Coin enough. If you want a place you can actually trust, this is it. read more

Friendly and efficient service at a fair price. Used this business three times in last six months. The people were very courteous and pleasant. The business interior could use some attention/sprucing up. read more

Have been doing business with them for years, they are trustworthy and reasonable people who carry great day to day inventory that many other gold and silver stores do not carry. This is my best spot in the Bay Area to do business with. read more

Nice guys, good vibe. Had a decent time looking around and checking some stuff out... bought a few items, went back a week later and bought a few more. read more

First time going here I brought in a couple of 2oz coins and other stuff, an I got completely robbed. Do some heavy research before selling your coins here because he is going to take advantage of you and get you out the door as fast as possible. Second time I came here to give it another chance. This guy Makes the most absurd reasons to low ball you.Rude service, he hates seeing color people walk into his store or something. Seems like they pick and choose who to help. Be cautious here they'll take advantage of you if you don't know your stuff. Better off if you don't come here at all. read more

Very helpful & fair prices. I recommend this business for foreign & domestic currency

I was very happy to discover Castro Valley Coin. I've been a costumer of Castro Valley coin for about a year. I'm still new at learning about coins and bullion and Greg and Apollo have been really helpful and informative. They are both very professional and by all appearances seem to take what they do very serious. I am fascinated by all that I am learning and it's a highlight of my day when I can go to their coin shop and pick up a coin or two. I love that store and appreciate the owners and will be spending the rest of my life doing business there. read more

I had some jewelry I no longer wear so I came to this store. Apollo and Greg helped me. They are very friendly and helpful. After a quick test to determine the gold in the jewelry, everything was settled fast and smooth. I highly recommend this store. They specialize in coins, so there is a huge selection of coins on display. It's in a plaza with a lot of other stores and big Lucky supermarket, so there is ample parking spaces. read more

Every time I come in here they are very polite and helpful. My appearance isn't the best as I where black and a beanie can say I look like I'm up to no good but they did not judge me. Two dollars over spot on certain rounds will always be a good deal. Even better than online bullion dealers. Love the shop and they way the conduct business. Won't regret stopping by here! read more

Great guys. Really nice working with, spent a few hours there chatting about coins and the hobby.

I took a bill to be graded and they made it easy for me. Their prices are reasonable and I trust them.

Fair and honest people in this business. Friendly and informative. Highly recommend for buying or selling.

Nice guy. Easy Peasy. I brought in some old coins and in less than 10 minutes I walked out with cash.

Found a bunch of coins in a storage locker. I cleaned out, looked everything up online and had a price in mind when they see the guys that on Castro Valley Coin laid everything out including some foreign coins I didn't think they'd be interested in. When they made me an offer, there was a two dollar difference from what I looked up and what they were offering. I think that is very fair. I also went back several times with some other things out of the same lockers. Always happy to help always a fair price. I strongly suggest anybody selling coins or buying coins. Give the guys a call or stop bye read more

I inherited a bunch of coins and was curious about their value. Of course, I needed to Yelp and found this 5 star shop. A knowledgeable fella explained to me about the collections worth. Some are only at face value and a few others are keepers. Nice to meet honest merchants! read more

I've been to many coin shops and this one is the best.! Very good prices on their coins and they do good honest business! They also pay good prices for your jewelry and coins. Don't waste your time going anywhere else. Apollo is always holding it down. Highly recommended!!! Thank you!!! read more

Been meaning to stop in to see what my collection of circulated coins and paper money is worth. Greg was thorough and gave me an estimate without too much waiting despite being sorta busy. These guys are absolutely awesome! My old review was about the old owners, which were not fun. This is a total 180. Greg and Apollo can talk collectibles, coins, bullion, melt, or just about anything else. They're totally transparent and fair and will tell you exactly how they got to their price. I pop in every other month or so and get the same service if I pull out $1 or $1000. I'll be a customer as long as I'm in the area. read more

Honest and friendly very informative ....have only been in there once but they were very attentive

i took a old coin in and i did not know it was valuable until I saw a commercial on TV about this old coin. He gave me $20. After i found out i was so hurt. i wish he would have been honest. read more

Don't let their character over email fool you. Complete waste of time. Emailed the business prior with a multitude of pictures. Was quoted $91 , lol, not $90 not $95 for my Olympic set Proofs $ silver eagle buillions etc because one of my coins "appeared" gritty / hazy THROUGH THE PICTURE. Looking more HANDLED than originally intended, I figured I'd give them a shot in person because they seemed so "helpful" via their email, but as soon as I walked in I knew exactly what time it was. Awkward stares from behind the registers like what's this type of person doing here & a fake greeting of can we help you? Told the guy behind the counter I emailed prior and he didn't even ask my name or bat an eye. Didn't even ask me too take a look at my items. As soon as I took the first coin out the bag he said my coin had been "handled" and he couldn't make an offer on it. Even though in the prior email with clear pics & multiple pics from different angles, I was quoted "$91". From that moment, again, I knew what time it was. Took my business elsewhere and literally JUST got $110. Listen, I've worked for Apple, Microsoft , Adobe , Nordstrom & Nike, Bloomingdales went too Brown University for college so if you're going too run a business, you shouldn't acknowledge your customers with blatant racism. That's 75% of your surrounding population. I literally came out of my way from where I reside too come deal with you all because of your abrupt response too my email. Go too Fosters or Oxbridge even. Do not come here if you are a person of color . Best of luck read more

Awesome trustworthy honest coin dealers. I appreciate their business. Not everybody is going to tell you like it is!

I did some research by reading reviews and visiting other coin shops before doing business with this great team. We had inherited coins from our mother and wanted to sell them. We were treated fairly, they are honest, and they make you feel comfortable. I trust them to make a fair offer. I have even double checked with other coin shops since I started doing business with Greg and Apollo and continue to be convinced that they do business with integrity. read more

Straight forward coin shop. Had a decent supply of silver, not great though. Owner did not seem to want to bargin, and since it was my first visit, that might have been the reason. So what did he charge for a 5oz bar of silver you ask? Pretty much the exact price for one on apmex. So the question is, why wouldn't you just order from Apmex? At least you have a way less chance of any of it being fake. Now I am in no way suggesting that's the case here, the silver was 100% legit. Still, there is money to be made for both buyer and seller, but this shop wants all that premium when you buy, but not when you sell. read more

Very knowledgeable friendly staff. They have an extensive inventory and more than happy to help you find what you are looking for. Their prices are very good and I don't feel the need to go to coin shows anymore. read more

Super nice and helpful. They bought a lot of my dad's coins and made it so easy. Highly recommend!

Apollo and Greg at Castro Valley Coin are polar opposites but equal in customer service and integrity. I have been there several times, they both are very knowledgable of coins, value and appreciative all of the different types of collectors. They want a repeat customer, so you will be treated well and more than fairly. They are extremely generous and helpful with information and time. Thank you for all of your help guys. I'll see you again soon! Update March 2020: I wanted to post another UNSOLICITED shout out, to the guys at Castro Valley Coin. I just found out a friend that is suffering early onset dementia had recently sold her deceased fathers gold coins. I was pleased and relieved to hear that she sold them to Castro Valley Coin. I was NOT surprised to hear she was paid fair market value. I would ALWAYS recommend Castro Valley Coin. They are a business that values integrity. read more

They don't sell based off of spot price. They sell above the price of current eBay auctions and piece popularity. Overpriced. Not a great first impression, and will not be returning. read more

So I needed some cash just after Christmas. My 1oz eagles original purchase place(OS&G)was closed for the holidays with no info on when they would reopen.Made a few calls, got everything but exact #'s.Dropped in on Castro Valley Coin (down the block from me)just for a quote. The percentages they offered me on (3)37.5g bars and (2)1oz eagles were great & fair. While I could quote exact percentages paid to me,I'm told it varies dependent on demand.Either way I was very happy with $$ amounts. Thank you Greg & Apollo for making selling as easy as buying read more

Great coin/bullion dealer. They have a great selection of (1) raw and graded coins and (2) silver and gold coins and bullion. Prices are extremely competitive and fair. Additionally, if you have old coins or precious metals that you are looking to sell, they will evaluate them and give you the real scoop about the item and its value. Both Apollo (like Creed) and Greg (the owners) are extremely, friendly, helpful and knowledgable. Definitely worth a visit. read more

First off I would give 10 stars if I could. This store is under new ownership and I have seen nothing but old reviews on the previous ownership... So I would like to tell everyone about my experiences with the NEW ownership.(Greg & Apollo) I would like to start where I had originally called Castro Valley Coin, just to to ask them if they would simply show my son & I some coins & educate us on coins / bullion? (basically, will you give us a free field trip lol ) Greg one of the owners answered my initial phone call to see if that would even be possible, and to my surprise Greg said "yeah sure come on in" And to be clear...why I say to my surprise, is that I told them I am not sure if we are buyers other than looking for something other than Xbox to possibly spark an interest. And one of the owners (Greg) said sure come on in, (not to many places around that will give a possible buyer their time. But Greg at Castro Valley was willing to share with us regardless. Our first visit to the store was very educational on numismatic values as well as spot values. While being educated we were shown some scrap or junk silver and my son found a key date coin in good condition while looking through the (junk silver) Greg was such an honest guy he gave us the credit on what would have been the numismatic value of the nickle my son found toward the ounce of silver we had decided to buy that day. (what rewarding us for for finding a diamond in the rough? YES they sure did) The other owner there Apollo is amazing, talk about customer service! This guy knows your name after one visit and greats you by name upon walking in. This store has a great selection of gold and silver coins and bullion as well. They pay more than most every place I have ever spoken to, and when buying Castro Valley coin has the best prices on quality coins hands down. If you are looking for a coin or bullion dealer for any reason at all, as these guys can do it all for you. Castro Valley Coin is the place to go. read more
