WARNING TO HOMEOWNERS: My Experience with PDK Roofing and Dee Keihn…read moreBased on my experience, I strongly recommend that homeowners avoid doing business with PDK Roofing (772-528-0113) and its president, Dee Keihn.
In my opinion, this was one of the most frustrating and dishonest experiences I have ever had with a contractor. I believe I was misled regarding both pricing and payment arrangements, and I was ultimately forced to involve state authorities just to recover money that I believe was rightfully mine.
I hired PDK Roofing to replace the roof on my approximately 1,200-square-foot home. Once the work was completed, Dee Keihn personally presented me with a final invoice for $16,952.50, which included all roofing work, repairs, and extras. I agreed to that final amount, and the invoice was provided in writing. See Invoice
To pay for the project, Dee recommended that I use Service Finance Company and obtain a loan for $20,000, with the funds going directly to PDK Roofing. In our agreement, he assured me that the difference between the loan amount and the final invoice, The amount of $3,047.50, would be refunded to me upon completion of the job.
That refund never came.
For nearly three months, I repeatedly contacted Dee Keihn seeking the return of my money. Instead of issuing the refund, he provided me with another invoice showing fraudulent charges exceeding $18,000, an amount that directly contradicted the final invoice previously agreed to in writing. In my opinion, this appeared to be an attempt to avoid refunding money that was owed to me.
Even after I provided him with a copy of his own final invoice showing the agreed-upon balance, he still refused to return my funds.
At that point, I had no choice but to pursue legal and regulatory remedies. I filed a complaint with the state's contractor licensing authorities and began the process of pursuing a claim against the contractor's bond. Obtaining assistance from an investigator took weeks. However, after PDK Roofing learned of the official complaint and investigator involvement, Dee Keihn suddenly contacted me and stated that he would send the refund.
My problems with PDK Roofing were not limited to the billing and contract dispute.
What happened next was alarming.
When the pick up crew returned to my property, I observed workers using caulking under direction of PDK roofing in an apparent attempt to secure down portions of the metal roof edge. This is not a proper solution and would not provide a long-term, weather-resistant attachment. Had I not arrived home when I did, I believe the roof could have been left vulnerable to wind and water intrusion. I immediately stopped the work and instructed the crew not to proceed with the caulking. To their credit, the workers agreed that the perimeter should be mechanically fastened and ultimately screwed down properly rather than relying on sealant alone.
Because I had lost confidence in the quality of the work, I felt it was necessary to hire another tradesman to inspect PDK Roofing's installation and identify issues that I should not have had to discover myself.
My Opinion
In my opinion, Dee Keihn demonstrated a pattern of conduct that raises serious concerns about honesty, integrity, and fair dealing with customers. I believe he failed to honor a written agreement, attempted to justify withholding money through a conflicting invoice, and failed to ensure that portions of the roofing work were completed properly without customer intervention.
Homeowners should be extremely cautious. Get every promise in writing. Keep copies of every invoice and communication. Inspect every aspect of the completed work. Do not assume that verbal promises will be honored, and consider obtaining an independent inspection before making final payment.
Based on my experience, I would never hire PDK Roofing again and would not recommend this company to friends, family, or fellow homeowners.
This review reflects my personal experience, opinions, observations, and allegations regarding my transaction with PDK Roofing and Dee Keihn.
