She grew up in a home daycare ran by her grandmother, and appreciated the relationships her grandmother developed with the children that were truly loving. I attended a traditional facility based program that was more classroom-based and therefore better equipped in some ways, but far less personal. Most of the places we visited in Delaware fell firmly into one of these two categories. When we found Little Stars, it quickly felt like home. Ginny Cahill, the director, answered all of our questions with knowledge, experience, and care. Her mother is the director at the other location, located off Kirkwood Highway, and prior to that ran a home daycare for many years. The values of the home daycare experience shine through into everything Little Stars does. However, it comes tied with the manpower and resources of a somewhat larger program. Inside, there are classroom "pods" that have walls on three sides, but on the fourth corner connect openly to a center area. As a result the children and staff members are all connected as well, providing many opportunity for sharing experiences and friendship building. The teachers know all the students, not only their own. My son was enrolled at Little Stars for 3 1/2 years. The strong bonds that he developed with the staff members and other children could best tell you the story of how satisfied we are with this facility. He was well cared for and engaged throughout his time there, and will miss it significantly as he moves on to "big kid school". Both Little Stars locations are well-run, organized, and safe places to enroll your children. The teachers take a strong interest in the lives of the children, and better than most daycares, prioritize learning alongside play. I have trusted my son's well-being to them for quite some time, and will continue to utilize their service for needed vacation and in-service days. If you are looking for care for your child, I strongly suggest you check them out.

I also appreciate the fact that they hid my spot for enrolling until the end of the week. They didn't pressure me into coming to their daycare at the time of enrollment. In all they are good people and I trust the teachers and staff with my son who I love dearly. Don't hesitate just sign your kid up he or she will be in good hands! sincerely TB:)

If you have a child with any type of learning disability or a child with an established IEP,…read more Tender Loving Kare is NOT the place for your child. Their instructors are not equipped to deal with any child other than perfect children. Their instructors fail to follow simple instructions from parents regarding their children. They have you pay for field trips at the beginning of the summer and then demand chaperones for the "difficult" children, not caring if parents and grandparents work! With the amount of money they bring in every week, they can afford to hire instructors that have experience in dealing with children with learning disabilities and not just teenagers fresh out of high school and college with a basic certificate in early childhood education! Shame on TLK for shaming working parents of kids who have established IEPs that tell you how things work best for that child, they don't even read them! Shame on TLK for their lack of communication between their instructors and administration! I used to rave about TLK, not anymore, i will tell anyone who will listen about how uncompassionate, inconsiderate and overpriced they are!

The director's foster son terrorized my son and all of the other kids, I witnessed it with my own eyes. My son was afraid to speak up and the director always acted clueless, yet my son would end up with lumps on his forehead and deep scratches from her foster kid and another taller boy. My son became angry and defiant and he literally hasn't been the same since he attended Kiddie Academy. They let the kids do whatever they wanted to him and when he'd retaliate he was the one who was written up. Finally stood up to the director's foster son and he was kicked out for it. There were also older boys (3rd/5th grade) who were mixed in with the kindergarten class. They older boys would instruct my son to say and do terrible things, and he'd be written up as if it was his idea. My son might not ever be the same after dealing with all of that on a daily basis and I wish I had never placed him there, I feel so guilty about it. He didn't begin speaking up until after I stopped taking him. He wouldn't even speak up because no one ever had his back. If you have a child of color, they will be seen as the aggressor and not the victim. My son was definitely a victim and it changed his entire personality. The director is the problem for allowing her foster son to behave the way he did. He wasn't suspended like the rest of the kids, he did whatever he wanted. A Very dangerous little boy. Name begins with a "B" so listen to your kids and watch out for that one.

The staff goes above and beyond caring for every child while maintaining focus on education and socialization. I couldn't be happier with what they have done for my son so far and wouldn't trust any other school with his future. Thank you so much to all LELA staff members who give it their all - day in and day out - putting the children and their families first. Additionally, it is very evident that he is well cared for every single day I pick him up: -Always put into clean dry clothes if he gets messy -Always given cold drinks of water on hot playground days -Always has sunblock on. Even bug spray when needed -Clearly taught conflict/resolution skills setting him up for successful social behavior -Teachers teach in a way that prepares children for real world- I appreciate that they don't coddle my son. Yes they comfort him if he gets injured but they allow him to learn from his own mistakes! -Teachers and directors prioritize open communication with parents THANK YOU SO MUCH LELA STAFF OF ELKTON!

If my wife did not have to relocate because of a new…read morejob opportunity, we most likely would have kept him at this location until he was ready to begin kindergarten. The owner, Ms. Cindy, is very kind and reasonable. In addition, she is very knowledgeable in regards to early childhood education and has years of experience in the field. When he began attending this school, he was in the young toddlers classroom, before moving to older toddlers and then Get Set, which prepares three year olds for preschool. His most recent teacher, Ms. Kim, is a gem. She's been at the school for over 10 years and it is very apparent that she loves what she does. She's not one of those teachers who views it as a job to collect a paycheck. She obviously has a passion for working with toddlers, which is what you want when you're sending your toddler to a facility and you're relying on others to attend to them for 6-8 hours a day. When we were having issues with potty training, she gave us valuable tips that we practice successfully to this day. She also taught my son Spanish, among many other valuable things. If we could take her with us, we would. She is the epitome of what you want in a teacher at an early childhood learning center. While enrolled at the school, my son had an accident in which he broke his foot. I was irate as none of the teachers were able to explain how it happened. Ms. Cindy worked with us and we did not have to pay a dime for the medical expenses. There were a few other little mishaps that can be experienced at any childcare center. For example, we would send him with breakfast in bowls labeled with his name and during one week, not one bowl came home. This was frustrating because parents are required to label their child's belongings and you expect said belongings to be returned. The tuition is a bit costly and food is not provided. It's something to be mindful of if you're thinking about enrolling your child.

I will give a review in different subjects to conclude my rating…read more The Staff: Many of the staff have cliques and are quite segregated to their rooms. There would be a lot of gossip and between teacher to teachers, I remember the first week of working I would hear multiple teachers gossip between each other in front of a new employee. Even higher up staff would be unprofessional and talk about colleagues to staff that were not teachers. There was also favoritism at an all time high. Certain staff members could call out 4 times in a week without a problem and others could not and get consequences. Workplace Culture: When I worked full time, many days there would be 3-4 teachers calling out. Calling out is a norm at Newark Day. I remember working wondering if classes would have to be combined or separated each day, parents would be confused where their child would be each day if they were in Preschool Moons, Suns or Stars ( The classroom names). There would be times where I would be left alone over ratio'd waiting for another teacher and being told to wait due to figuring out other over ratio'd classes. This led to many teachers being miserable and overwhelmed throughout the whole day. Purpose: While being there I loved being with the children. I felt a purpose due to the children and being there for them and loving on them. I will say that NDN did give a budget for each classroom which gave us opportunities to rebuild and create a space for children. Positives: There was lunch provided, the rooms and the facilities are beautiful. Especially with the rooms for the older children, each room has sinks and plenty of room and toys. The manager did have a high expectation of having training and each and every requirement to be there. The management also did set a high standard on the quality for licensing and receiving high ratings. Negatives: The environment. Many of the staff were upset at the over ratio'd classes, lack of support and unsettling staff conditions with gossiping and favoritism in the workplace. The policies, when I did work at NDN the staff would implement policies to parents about their "Nut Free Policy". One of my colleagues was extremely allergic to nuts and had to go to the hospital multiple times due to the staff not emphasizing policies. I would not recommend working at NDNCC. I find that the environment and the staff are not worth the stress. If you do work at NDNCC be mindful of who you are with, many talk about each other and try your best. I often wonder if the parents know all of the details of NDNCC.
