The trees are low enough not to require ladders so they're kid friendly (and for those of us who are fun-sized). The orchard offered a beautiful view of the hills in the background covered in fall trees when I went in early October. There was also a little pumpkin patch that was perfect for pictures! Many people visit Fly Creek Cider Mill and Orchard but you don't get the same experience since you don't get to pick the apples right off the trees. However, we did visit Fly Creek (which is a fun experience too!) the next day and I thought that the apple cider doughnuts from here were much better - they were softer and denser! I also compared it to some doughnuts that my cousin bought from another orchard in PA and Middlefield's still comes up on top! I definitely recommend here for your traditional fall apple-picking/apple cider doughnut-eating/pumpkin-picking experience! There weren't much people when we went so there were many opportunities for uninterrupted photos as well!

However, the reason to visit is undoubtedly the apple fritters, made to order from thick slices of apple, hand dipped in batter and then fried before being tossed in cinnamon sugar. They are not dog friendly because they have at least one very docile resident dog that they want to keep free from being barked at or bitten by another dog. There is enough parking for the number of people I've seen there, even at their busiest, but it is possible that they could still run out of spaces if they get a sudden crowd.

There were knowledgeable staff around willing to answer any and all questions. The trailer was back up to the orchard frequently and we were able to head back down pretty much as soon as we wanted to. It was not nearly as crowded as other places we've been and we enjoyed that. Our kids' ages ranged from 4-8. We bought tickets at the booth and let our kids pick 3 activities each. They all stuck together and picked: bounce house, zip line and, haunted play area (can't remember what it was called). There were quite a few other activities we didn't do. Not too many people made it enjoyable and the kids basically were able to stay in the bounce house as long as they liked. The zip line was a first for my kids and it was really cool. Was nervous about them hanging on, but my 4 year old and 7 year old did it. That event went quickly with 1 ride. Another go, and it would have cost us more tickets. And they wanted to go again, but off to the last activity we went. This area allowed many kids to run around, climb structures, go down slides, hide, etc. They spent quite a bit of time in this area running around, splitting in 2 groups, hiding from each other, etc. Tractor ride to the apple trees was fun. Prices were reasonable and better than some other orchards. Honey crisp $2/lb and all others 1.20/lb. A porta potty by the tractor drop off was appreciated, as of course, my son had to go in the middle of apple picking! The food place had a larger than expected menu. Food was pretty good. We were all hungry by then! Great experience and I'd love to go back!

They had buckets for each of us. We picked about 6 pounds in less than an hour. They mentioned there were some different varieties and we sampled a few. We will definitely be back again. You simply look for the ripe ones, clip off the vine with the supplied scissors and add to your basket. Berries are sold by the pound, less expensive if u-pick. There's also the typical farm store with Central New York jellies, mustards, sauces and other things that you really don't need, but look and taste good, and they have many opportunities to sample.
