Tucked between the beautiful San Gines cathedral and an impressive old castle is the Casa Palacio Las Manillas. The original manillas next to the entrance are still intact, and like everything else in Sabiote, give a sense of Jaen's rich past. This is a great place to escape from the madness of the city and become immersed in a timeless Andalusian town that is surrounded by endless hills of red earth and solemn olive trees. The rooms are large and comfy. Ours was a suite with a separate living area and bedroom. When the lights were out and the television turned off the light filtered in through the ancient windows and I felt as if I had been transfered back in time a thousand years. And to speak of the food, I have had some of the best meals of my life here: pate made from wild-caught partridges, thin slices of free-range solomillo cooked on stone tablets, and ice cream made with local olive oil. read more
