A cute little hideaway, with its high walls and courtyard keeping you somewhat isolated from the outside world, I found this a charming little restaurant in Batangas. Certainly a stop when I'm in town.
The service was fair to just above average. You have to look for someone if you need anything. I did remember not having to ask for water, that was a given here, so that goes to the just above average column, check.
Let's dig in!
- can't remember which salad, but I'll attach photos: the salad was fresh and crisp. It wasn't over dressed and was quite good.
- osso bucco with risotto: super tender, like crazy tender, so that's a plus plus, but drenched in a sauce which would have been fine if it wasn't so... drenched! The risotto was quite good, a little al dente, not overly undercooked but al dente as proper pasta/risotto should be :) good job! Thoroughly enjoyed the osso bucco, however, none was quite small, like tiny with a tiny bit of marrow... Isn't it those of us who love food and can appreciate a good osso bucco love using that little spoon to treat ourselves to a little extra helping of goodness? (If you know what I mean, snaps for you).
- pizza: again I forget which, so sorry, pics attached. I am from NYC, I'm sorry I know Italian pizza is much different than Its NYC counterpart but I just so miss folding my pizza in half in one hand while walking down the street... Overall I had one slice of pizza and took the rest home. Perhaps it was the salad and osso bucco that filled me up, but quite honestly I can't give a fair assessment to the pizza, I was simply too full.
- the house red wine was, not too dry, it was more oakey than fruity and medium bodied, I'm not a sommelier so you can decide for yourself. I ordered like 4 glasses, I should have just ordered a bottle!
Overall, quaint, intimate, and the food is quite good. I'll be back for that steak!!!
