I used to love this place. Really, it was my favorite and going to Hartwood & Casa jaguar were staples on one of our many trips we make to Tulum each year. Unfortunately Casa Jaguar has declined tremendously. The food has declined in the last 5 years so much and this last time we were utterly disappointed. When we went this last new years we thought it was because the restaurants expansion was throwing them off their game but no, this last visit the food was terrible, a far cry from 4 years ago when this was my favorite restaurant in Tulum. The owner is always around so it shouldn't be lack of management although the majority of the wait staff don't seem to be very happy with her hovering. I can only assume from what I witnessed they are being micromanaged. Perhaps they should micro-manage the chef and cooks instead. (oh and the reservations, took me one month and MANY emails to get someone to finally email me back a reservation confirmation, again....declining rapidly). The old decor/design layout was 100X better before, they are just ruining it instead of leaving it rustic and wild juggle-like that it was. Such a shame. Tulum has changed a lot for most of us that have been going for many years. Even with no running city water or electricity it is growing into a very touristy place unfortunately and I guess only a few restaurants will maintain their initial integrity through the commercialization of what once was this beautiful little sleepy beach town. We loved it so much we came back a 2nd time on our 5 days in Tulum. The first time (a Saturday) we sat at a communal table with interesting people. We had cocktails from a separate little place owned by the same owner. Cocktails, food and service were excellent !! 2nd time was I think a Tuesday. they were slow, the little bar that was so great wasn't open so no terrific cocktails :( the service was slowwwww and bad. I did not like the shrimp ceviche or the whole roasted fish. The write ups on the menu sounded good, but once received, it was not as advertised. The shrimp in the ceviche were slimy and even though it was pitch black and we could barely see, they looked grey and transparent. the whole roasted fish seemed like it could be good with an appearance of a nice caramelization, however it wasn't. It tasted burnt and then the other side of the fish was cool and again, slimy. Idk what happened here, I want to like this place, but I did not. read more

The ambiance gets 5 stars. You literally feel like you're in a jungle surrounded by trees. If you're sensitive to smell this may not be your place because they spray incense several times, I believe to keep the mosquitoes away. Having been to a few other restaurants in Tulum, the food here did not blow me away. My boyfriend got ribs and I got steak, they were both OK. Our appetizer was amazing, it was a shrimp dish. We were greeted poorly, the hostess was rude, they totally messed up we were prepared to drink all night and spend money but they couldn't even let me charge my phone. We asked the waitress diana to help us and she was so poor with customer service. When I decided not to tip our waitress she got upset and expected it even though the service was bad. I think they just hire people that look fashionable but aren't trained in customer service. All three of us will never return here again. read more

Terrible, Terrible,Terrible!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do NOT go here if you are a couple and would like to enjoy drinks later in the night. My boyfriend and I waited politely by the bar and ordered 3 TIMES for a drink. All 3 bartenders were only serving single young girls and we very nice to them. My boyfriend and I are in our 30's. All bartenders saw us but still continued to not make our drinks and kept serving all the single girls. After finally telling a bartender that we have been waiting for over 30 minutes that we still didn't get our drinks. This place is HORRIBLE and I highly recommend to not you unless you are a single girl. The bartenders did not even care about serving us. They all were so nice to the younger single girls, but when it came to my boyfriend and I asking for drink they all gave us a dirty mean face and never made our drinks. I hope everyone reads chooses not to go to this horrible establishment. read more

Came here for a drink, and did so at the bar. Place was quiet, only around six people inside. Decided to have food so asked to be seated. I went first, and my girlfriend gathered her belongings and followed behind. A waiter helped her, which was unnecessary. When she arrived at the table she said, 'i think he was touching my bottom'. I brushed this off as perhaps a misunderstanding. Around three minutes later, the same waiter came back to read the menu to us. He came very close, leaning in on the corner or the table. At the time i thought, this is a bit close, what is he up to. I could see in the corner of my eye as he was finishing that he was doing something with his hand. To my astonishment, as he left, my girlfriend told me he had his hand on her back, and was rubbing it down to her bottom. She was stunned in the moment. Everything clicked why this absolute sleaze bag was hovering and came so close. I sat for a few moments, with a calm exterior, contemplating what to do. So i stood up to find him. My girlfriend tried to tell me to leave it, but this was just too much. This clown immediately came over, knowing he had been rumbled. I told him he was touching my girlfriend, and that i want to see the manager before i end up smacking him. He took me outside, pretending the manager was there. This was to take any commotion away from the bar and his colleagues. He tried to pass off a waitress as a manager, to which i told him to get the real manager. From the side this chubby guy enters, later identified as the manager. I told him what he had done (no protest from the waiter at any stage btw), to which he denied it and said it was not possible ' because i know him'. He then started to berate me for a fight. It was absolutely ridiculous!! I told him he is a disgrace of a manager, as he was trying to inflame a situation instead of sorting it. It resulted in me leaving, without paying for my two cocktails. The chubby manager threatened me further with police action, to which i replied that i'd love to speak to the police. My girlfriend came out at this point and explained what had happened, telling the waiter in a more diplomatic style that his behaviour was not acceptable. Still no apology from anyone. This episode not only left the evening ruined, as i was so incensed, but left a sour taste in my mouth for the whole trip. I love Tulum and i must not let this ruin my memory of it, but no where in the world has this happened. CASA JAGUAR, sort out your staff and give me my long overdue apology for your waiter sexually assaulting my girlfriend. Real management and/or owner are more than welcome to contact me. read more

My wife and I popped in after dinner at cenzontle for a drink ( or 2! ) which were absolutely amazing. And equally as impressive is their outdoor ambience and architecture. Contrary to other posts, mesquitos were not an issue at all. Drinks were pricey, but you get what you pay for! An easy recommendation for after dinner drinks. We didn't have their food, but we saw some and I have to say it looked very good as well even without an appetite. read more

This was my best meal and best drinks on the Riviera Maya. Also the priciest. But I think that they deserve these 5 stars, especially for any of their amazing fish dishes as well as drinks which were really well composed. Another side is the decor and setting in the beautiful lush tropical garden: maybe it's the flower arrangements, maybe it's the layout but it somehow looks more classy than a lot of other places I have visited this time (around 20?). They follow the general trend that includes a lot of mezcal, spices and local inspired drinks as well as the copal burning (which I loove) but what sets them apart is the quality and seasoning of the food. Ideal for a romantic night with your loved one or a date. We went as a group and it was still great. We had our first dinner here and were impressed. It is a laid back atmosphere with an outdoor kitchen and brick oven. While sitting at the bar, you can watch the cook prepare everything which is pretty cool. The cocktails we had were good and we ate the tuna tostados and the vegetable wok mix. Both were super delicious and well prepared. The only downside was that the lighting was pretty poor. There were candles on each table but they were pretty weak. My five stars is for the awesome margaritas, the super friendly bartender and the fun vibe. We showed up 10 minutes before closing having just had dinner at Cenzontle. The bartender was lovely and didn't seem to mind that we were about to cramp her style by being there so close to closing time. She greeted us warmly and made us the some of the best margaritas! We sat at the bar and enjoyed the drinks and the atmosphere, and even though it was after closing time, we were offered another round. Though these margaritas were awesome, the prices were more than any other margarita in town (that I know of) at 175 pesos. read more

Shit ton of attitude in this place. We were in Tulum for 5 days and ate every meal out. This was the most overpriced food we ate. The server sucked (forgot things in our order, acted like he was miserable being there) and the food was below average especially considering the cost. If you're vegetarian or vegan, this is not the place for you. Incredibly limited choice that included just salad. The music was obnoxious. The bathrooms have soap in a jug at the central station (not by the sinks) that isn't labeled so it just looks like a water jug filled with milky liquid. No one knew it was soap until I tried it. Also, they only accept a 2 credit card max which no one told us when we were seated. After talking to them, they agreed to accept 3 cards (for a party of 10) and they had issues with their own machine which rejected the PIN of one of the debit cards. The woman "helping us" was very clear about her frustration with US as if it was OUR fault!!! She literally said to me "you see why we only accept one card?" First of all, thought it was 2 cards? Thanks for the attitude. Worst place in Tulum during a 5 day stay. read more

He was just so rude the whole time we asking for the hot sauce he just ignore never bring it to us. So when we having dessert and while gossip with my friends he come and said that he need to have the table wonder we are done eating cause people are waiting. Omg We was like is he really just said that I can't believe it. So we pay and left, will never go back there again. There's so many good place, more reasonably better service, I hope u guys give business some where else.
