Now, the coffee here is not great - but honestly the best cup in the area. But you don't really come here for the coffee, but rather the food. It is great! You have to love a place that has 8 different kinds of egg benny. You know a place is good, when you can't make up your mind of what to actual eat. Further, to make this place place even better all the workers here are really nice! Service is a bit slow, but that is only because it is extremely busy. But there are very nice and a smile goes a long way. So if you are in the Nelson Bay area, make sure you give this cafe a visit.

We ordered a side of chips with aioli (turns out my partners burger came with a side of chips and my lamb wrap with a simple salad). The chips were a massive serving and we couldn't finish those or the ones with the burger. But we tried our best! The smell of the lamb wrap was a bit odd but tasted fine. I think lamb has a distinct smell anyway....

I took a bite from the sauerkraut arancinni balls and the cheese with the sauerkraut created a gooey goodness of great delight. I washed all of this down with a hefeweisen beer from Hope brewery that are based in the hunter valley. We sat out on the deck in the warm winter sun overlooking the harbour while sipping, dipping, devouring and relishing the goods in front of us. The guy behind the bar was very helpful checked in and asked how the food was. I was interested in their supplier for the sausages and he gave us some great info. Great afternoon

The country club is part of the Shoal Bay Resort and although its nothing great to look at from the outside, walk through those wrought iron gates and your mind will soon change.. Its all about the beer garden and the upstairs function area (I think it's a function area - there was a wedding at the time so we weren't able to check it out). I'd imagine the view up there would be magic !! A visit to Shoal Bay wouldn't be complete without at least one drink in this beer garden. I only wish this place was a little more "open" to the ocean but despite feeling the need to protect its customers from the breeze and the sand, it's a great spot to sit back, talk about owning a place like this along some part of the NSW coast (as you do) and enjoy a few with your besties.
