We have been very pleased with the outcome for the past two years and have already booked our next event. Although a bit pricey, you get what you pay for -- a large elegant ballroom that holds 150+ guests, a fabulous location in beautiful Cary, great food, a spacious dance floor, and an upscale feel for your affair. We generally provide some of our own customized decor, but the venue itself is lovely even before decorations are hung or added. And our event is usually a Christmas brunch. The staff is courteous and professional. They work closely with the org's planning committee to ensure successful implementation of the vision for a magnificent afternoon with family and friends. TIP: If you want to have an event here -- particularly during the holidays, plan many months in advance (we booked 12 months ahead of time for next year's holiday party).

As a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop and Black History Month, this was a unique event. There were 2 guest DJ's who spun old school hip hop throughout the event and a DJ who spun a live score throughout the entirety of the film. It was refreshing to see so many people of color come out to this side of town to gather. There was merchandise being sold in the lobby and food trucks such as Presto and Go Yaki in the parking lot. It was convenient for those attending this 3 hour long event. The staff kept things organized and they were kind and welcoming. The facility itself is in need of some renovations and updating. I get that this is a old historical building. I will definitely return for further programming of interest.

It is one of my best events of the year, and attended by serious art lovers from near and far. Organizers are Gretchen Quinn of Gretchen Quinn Pottery and potter Helen Johnson as well as a host of volunteers. This event, held annually in May, features artist set-ups on local porches and lawns, and a drawing supporting a charity, while the surrounding area provides excellent restaurants, cafes, and eateries where visitors may grab a bite while browsing the art. (As a local artisan, I was so enamored at the success, excitement, and vision of this event that I have participated twice, in 2016 and 2017. Consequently, I recommend this event for both artists and art-lovers, as those partaking and attending have an understanding of what creative people are attempting in their artistic lives.)

The electronic scoring and automatic bumper bowling are convenient features and staff is always at the ready when a slow-pitched ball from a little one doesn't quiiite make it all the way. The food is what you might expect and there are a decent amount of choices from pizza and wings to French toast and nachos. Little Mister is a fan of the French toast and you have the option of ordering it with either cinnamon and sugar or powdered sugar. Well, I suppose you could order it without any sugar at all since you can dip it right into the glorious liquid sugar called maple syrup. Or maybe it is high fructose corn syrup that tastes enough like maple syrup to pass with flying colors. The nachos are sufficiently okay. They get soggy under the cheese, and the chicken is flavorful but nothing to write home about. The potato skins are great dipped in sour cream and you can order them without bacon if you prefer. There is also an arcade that can swiftly devour your funds. Many of the games offer points that can be redeemed for treasures in the arcade store. Ultimately, you can spend a bundle of cash to win enough points for a tootsie roll. I'm exaggerating. But not too much. There are games like Wicked Tuna where you can test your virtual fishing finesse, or Jurassic park where you can blow virtual raptors into oblivion. There's even a good ole hoop-shooting game that tests your basketball skills and gives you points for your athletic prowess. Overall, BLS is a great place to unwind and have fun. Call ahead to see if they have open bowling. They usually do but if not, there's always the arcade if you want to lighten the burden of carrying all that cash in your wallet.

HVCC is a fantastic country club, particularly if you are a golfer. The course is a tough par-70,…read morebut not penal. The course was designed by Donald Ross and was built in 1926. It is a beautiful walking course and when I'm playing by myself, I can typically play 9 holes in about 1:40. The golf course is really the difference-maker for Hope Valley, as it stands up very well to any course in NC. There was a PGA tour event here in the 1940s, so you know that the layout is strong. Hope Valley is a private club with an initiation fee. There are three levels of membership - SOCIAL (which allows you to use the pool, the restaurants and play golf 6 times a year - for a fee); TENNIS (which is social plus free access to the 7 clay and 2 hard tennis courts; GOLF (all the golf, tennis, pool, etc that you want) - and if you walk, there is no incremental charge for golf. I would say that the average monthly charge for family golf is $500, so you really have to like to play golf. If you play tennis, there are a lot of leagues and weekly events - like men's night, where the pro splits everybody up into even matches. After 2 hours of play, folks hang out and drink beer in the moonlight. It makes for a fun evening.

Completed in 1881 in a Late Victorian style with a classical portico and a three stage cupola, the building was designed as a sturdy two-story brick landmark that immediately became the county's civic anchor. Pittsboro has always been the county seat, and the county itself was named for William Pitt, the Earl of Chatham, a British statesman admired by the colonies. Walking around the exterior, you get that rare unencumbered 360-degree view that reminds you that they truly do not make them like this anymore. After a devastating fire in 2010, the courthouse was restored and reopened in 2013, with the first floor becoming the Chatham Historical Museum and the second floor returning to courtroom use. The result is a tremendous blend of preservation and resilience. It's a historic structure that still commands the center of town with all its original presence.
