We were on the hunt for pizza and pasta. Because of the big snow storm, most places closed early. While they do not have pasta, their pizzas are amazing and reasonably priced. I am shocked I haven't reviewed Cart-Driver RiNo until now as it is probably one of my favorite spots in Denver! Whether you are looking for an afternoon patio hang with aperol spritzes and oysters, or a cozy pizza night, this is the spot. This location is much smaller and has different vibe than it's LoHi sister location. Snag a spot quickly if you see one, because there isn't much room; especially in the winter when the patio is closed. The chicken liver mousse, which might scare some away given what it is, is an absolute must. The bread is perfection with a little char on it, but try not to fill up on it because the pizzas are fantastic. I am by no means a pizza snob, but this pizza is great. We started with the Sardines and Bread, which were rich and savory yet not over powering. For our main course, we split a couple of pizzas - the Margherita and the Clam. Both were absolutely delicious, with perfectly crisp crusts and just the right amount of toppings. Our favorite was the clam pizza. It was topped with clams in a sauce made with garlic, olive oil, and herbs. One thing I really appreciated about Cart-Driver was the attention to detail. Perhaps some of the best pizza in Denver. Surely so if you are a wood-fired die hard like my husband. Cart-Driver serves up excellent pies alongside a selection of mainly Italian inspired sides and drinks. The clam pizza is a must if you are a crustaceans fan, and most recently the white pie with smoked ricotta and basil was delicious. The garlic bread they are currently serving with their take-out only menu comes with two full bulbs of roasted garlic in an olive oil infusion, with hot honey. The bread is a sourdough piada. I Love the pizza and the drinks. I also love the shipping container atmosphere. The problem is the fast casual business model. For the prices charged I should not have to find my own table, then make my way back to the front and stand in line to order. When paying, of course, the 20% gratuity is the default setting and then you carry your own drinks back. For a 20% gratuity I expect sit down service not just a pizza drop off. read more

And the pizza is legit- very light, thin but fluffy crust and authentic rich sauces and cheese with few toppings. I will slide in my only critique which is that mine was more burnt than preferred but still amazing overall. You could stand naked in the front door of this dump for an hour. Nobody cares. Busy servers repeatedly look at you just standing there. They say nothing at all as they go serve someone else. Anyone else. There is no sign that says please be seated or the hostess will seat you. Nothing. Busy bartenders constantly look at you standing there and then they look back down at the drink without uttering a single syllable. The food is worse than the service and it is very, very slow. Nobody bothered to explain their dirty and tattered paper menu cards either. The floor is slippery and greasy. If you made the mistake of parking in their tiny, little, itsy-bitsy, fake parking lot then you will need a can opener to extricate yourself from your car in that lot. Save that can opener! You will need it to get your car back out of that space too. You'd be better off taking the bus - somewhere else. Good food, good service and decent, accessible parking are available almost everywhere in Denver. You don't need this place and this hassle. Try someplace else. read more

Our experience at Cart Driver was for the most part positive... but their pizza is way overrated! Their chopped salad, delicious! Their white pizza, very good! Their clam pizza... absolutely was a total waste of real dough, twenty four bucks to be exact. I don't care if others rave about this and perhaps on a Saturday afternoon, the cook was too stoned to put together a really delicious clam pie. But the one I got was off the charts overrated. I know really good pizza... was raised on first class wood and coal fired pizza and bread ovens. I was a top notch bagel baker in NYC fifty five years ago and still to this day bake some of the finest sourdough boules anyone has ever tasted. It's great that Cart Driver has such a following. Which is interesting because it's such a simple pizza yet something about it made it taste beyond others'. Their hot sauce was also super tasty (but VERY hot, so be careful). We called ahead for reservations here for a party of 4 on a Saturday night. Up front, they have a guy manning the locked gate and ensuring we kept our distance. He then takes your temperature (first on himself to show how it works then on you) and then led us to our outdoor seat. We enjoyed a few bottles of delicious rose, snack olives and a salami / prosciutto plate. Between the 4 of us we also shared 3 pizzas and had a few slices left over. My favorite slice was the Mexican one topped with corn. Servers stopped by often to ask how we were doing and thanked us for coming up to support the business as we headed out. What a cozy little unique spot in a uber cool warehouse district! Cart-Driver was an excellent place to hit up for a casual date-night. It's much more than a restaurant that offers delish, perfectly cooked wood-fired pizzas....they do oysters on the half, impressive antipasta, local brews, creative cocktails, small snacks such as marinated almonds and rosemary spiced nuts, as well as sardines, which are apparently a must try here (even for those who normally wouldn't do so). We heard many people rave about them while dining. It's a simple pay at the counter joint, and while there are more tables around the back of the space, we really loved cozying up in a booth up front on a snowy evening and watching our pies being made right in front of us by the fun, efficient staff. We enjoyed a white pie with smoked ricotta that was to die for!! The gentle hint of smokiness made this pie a stand out white. We also tried the Peppers Pie with pepperoni on the side. The Calabrian chili took this one up a notch. The garlic was present, but not overpowering, and the sauce was a balanced sweet and acid taste. Both pies were made quickly and as requested. They were crispy in all the right places! I couldn't chose a favorite. We loved strolling this cool area afterwards. If you're not from Denver, I suggest trying it out. It seems like a very local heavy joint and neighbor to hang. We really loved our experience here all around, and it left us craving a return visit to this particular section. A local friend took us here for dinner and we loved it. Cute laid back atmosphere with stringy patio lights, warm fire towers, green plant walls, and unique exterior that is built out of shipping containers. We got the seasonal salad, Clam Pizza, Daisy, and Autumn Seasonal. Every pizza flavor was sooo good. Freshly oven baked. I usually do not eat pizza crust but ate this whole thing! I love the crispy quality of the kale courtesy of the wood fire oven. The same quality is evident in the crust. Perfect size for two people. I suggest the outside while you still can. Specifically in the back. It's cute! It's pretty and adorned with colorful flowers and I especially love the white roses behind one of the tables we sat. Although my next target is to sit by the counter on my next visit. So this place got me on their design and they almost got me on their pizza as well. Although the dough of the pie was tasty, they consistently cook pizzas with burnt bottoms and burnt bubbles along the crust. Personally, I don't think a "top ten" pizza should deliver burnt crust as a standard offering which is my main knock on the place. The clam pizza was very good, but doesn't put a dent in Frank Pepe's on the East Coast. If you are looking for a traditional neopolitan style pizza, this is not your spot.
