They have a variety of free maps inside and many coupons for Tahoe restaurants and services. Clean bathrooms too. Inside, for younger kids, they have an area for tracing and coloring. For older kids, they have several educational exhibits illustrating the vastness of the Tahoe Lake, the history and educational facts. For older fans, there is an area with benches for you to sit down and watch a video about the history of Lake Tahoe. The video is of high quality and great historical and educational value... we really enjoyed it. They also sell books and a few finger puppets, toys, and nik naks/ souvenir items for Lake Tahoe. This place is very clean, very organized with excellent staff. Well done! We really enjoyed the visit.

We hiked Taylor Creek Trail with our two kids and a stroller, and it was a great, very easy walk…read moreoverall. The trail is mostly flat and well-maintained, making it totally stroller-friendly and perfect for families with little ones. We arrived around 10:30 AM and finished by 11:30 AM, so it's a nice, short hike that doesn't take up your whole day. Parking was easy, with plenty of spots available. We visited in July (summer), and the mosquitoes were intense, especially near the swampy areas definitely wear mosquito repellent. Also worth noting: the swamp area has a strong smell, so if you're sensitive to odors, that's something to be aware of. We'd recommend avoiding lingering near the water. Overall, a great, low-effort trail for families or anyone looking for a relaxed walk just come prepared for bugs and smells in the summer.

While, as a previous reviewer mentioned, we can simply thumb the need for quick advisable bits of info online, there's something a little more refreshing when one comes face to face with staff willing to make a road trip such a pleasure as the one my brother and I took a few weeks ago. Generally, I'm the kind of guy who tends to sight see locations of interest whenever I hop in my car and go. While the usual suspect tourist traps pull us in, there's something to be said of taking the road less traveled, and on this particular day, it was definitely worth the side venture. The woman working behind the counter was as friendly as can be. She started up a conversation with both my brother and I, engaging him even further personally in small talk as I wandered about the center taking the kitschy only in Tahoe merch laid about in well organized fashion. Thanks to her bubbly personality, my brother was able to learn about an overlook area allowing these breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe from high the windy above. I never thought to go further along in our travels that day, but such an opportunity to see nature in such grandeur was too hard to pass up. All in all, it was a great experience - a few minutes alone was well spent invested in this short road trip that my brother and I will take as a memorable part of the journey. I highly encourage others who may trek the same road we did, to also stop in and make themselves feel at home. You'll be so glad you did.

She has lived in the area for over 25 years, she said, and it shows in her knowledge of the region. From Incline Village to Sand Harbor, to Zephyr's Cove, to entertainment and gaming at South Shore, Fran had tips on what to see and do and covered Lake Tahoe in a very pleasant and conversant way. They are always helpful and friendly folks. You can also purchase all discounted Comstock Adventure Pass tickets here. This gives guests a 25% discount off the regular door price to VC's historic venues and attractions including museums, exhibits, mining tours, the Wild West comedy show, train and trolley rides and, last but not least... my favorite, paranormal tours. So the best way to get a lay of the land without having to dig through a rack of brochures is by hitting up the Virginia City Visitor Center first. They are located in the heart of Historic C Street. The original building dates back to the late 1800s, and even features the historic Crystal Bar (standing since 1871), the "Mysterious Clock", and fancy era chandeliers. I went here today, Monday, May 6, 2019. It is on the first floor of an office building, with the…read moreentrance facing North Carson Street. Parking is right on the south side of the building. You must enter from North Carson street, as the parking lot is one way, and exits on North Curry Street. (Google Maps GPS directs you to West Washington Street, where there is no parking; don't listen to it). There were two parking spaces open when I came about 3 PM, plus two handicapped spaces. When I left though, there was only the one handicapped spot. It probably will get worse on a day the Nevada State Museum across the parking lot is open. You can probably find parking around North Curry Street though. This location is run by the Consolidated Municipality of Carson City, and this department runs Nevada Day each year. Their other job is to be a resource for visitors to the city. They differ from the Carson City Chamber of Commerce (which is a private business) in that the latter focuses on businesses and new residents of the city, though they also have a lot of things for visitors too. Being a branch of Carson City, this office has free wifi. The office is basically a store, with some free information for visitors, such as brochures. They also give away free Nevada Route 50 (The Loneliest Road in America) passports here (and stamp them), as well as free Carson City stickers. Among the items for sell are various commemorative coins, books, t-shirts, sweatshirts, baby clothes, hats, key chains, pins, magazines, flags, kitchen ware, jewelry, postcards, cards, and wooden magnets. Some of the items were expensive, like the 2018 limited edition Nevada Day coin (only 200 made) for $15, while others were more reasonable, like three postcards for $1 I believe. There is a nice sitting area in the middle, a swell as free coffee and hot chocolate for visitors. Beware: there were ants all around the coffee area and near the cash register. They were attracted by the sugar. I had to be careful not to set my hot chocolate down near them. The employee told me they have called an exterminator. She also wiped up the ants which I showed her (that is a never-ending task, as there are thousands of them in the colony, and they leave pheromones marking the trail to the food source). I saw at least four different employees in offices, and a conference room in the back. I picked up by Nevada Highway 50 passport, and the employee stamped it in four places. I was giddy about that. She knew her job well, and knew exactly how and where to stamp so it didn't blur and was upright. I also asked where the stop was for the tourist train which goes to Virginia City. The employee gladly got me a map and brochure showing me where it was (hint: it is not qt the Nevada State Railroad Museum on South Carson Street). The employee who attended to me was very professional and helpful. In my 30 minutes here, I saw a father and son come in who were tourists. It should begin to pick up after Memorial Day. I was very happy with my trip here and will come again to get other Nevada tourism information.

The first thing I noticed as I pulled into the parking lot in Edgewood Village (that's the name of the center) that it was a little difficult to find. There are multiple buildings and parking lots here, a rotary, and parking garage, so I didn't know where to go. I drove slowly, then realized there was a driver behind me, so I felt embarrassed. Finally I saw their sign and pulled into the parking lot on the left of the building. Parking is not apparent, as I wasn't sure if I should park in the garage across the way or the side parking lot. When I got there, I apparently entered the rear entrance, There was a directory, stairs, and an elevator with three floors. There were also restrooms in the Douglas County offices hallway on that level, and a decorative bear. I realized the Visitors Center was on the lower floor. As I later learned, there is another entrance, the main entrance, that is in US Route 50, but that is a busy route and there is no parking there. They might do this for pedestrians, but I can't imagine they get too many in that area. I wish they made the rear entrance the man entrance. I found the center downstairs and walked around. I was immediately greeted by the employee at the desk. She was professional. I told I was just looking around, and she went back to her computer. I took a lot of pictures. There were a ton of large plastic bear statues, displays about Nevada's gambling history, informational signs about Carson City and Virginia City, and tons of brochures and maps. There were also free stickers and postcards, and a number of places where you could sit down. But no free drinks like at Carson City. I asked for the password for the public wifi for "LTVA_PUBLIC" (Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority"), which my phone found, and the employee said that is only for guests attending meetings. A little deceptive I think, plus the employee seemed a little curt when she said that. I also asked if this was public, like Carson City's Visitors Bureau. She said this was private and non-profit. I concluded my visit my taking this picture of a huge pine cone on the front desk (see my pic). The employee said "isn't that huge?". I said yes. I asked if it was real, and she said yes. I didn't realize they got that big. An employee the other year said the Toyotas at CardinaleWay Toyota (as it was then called) in South Lake Tahoe were damaged from a pine cone storm, and now I see why. I will leave four stars, only because the parking/entrance issues, and the wifi.

He tried confusing us several times, almost poking fun at the fact we were from out of town. The only thing helpful he finally did provide us with was a map. We ended up personally calling a shuttle to come pick us up. For a visitor's center, this place was not friendly or helpful.

It's Reno's very own Chocolate Factory get a Willie Wonka type experience. Been to the Automobile museum? Yes this is so cool. There are far fewer cars here now then when I fist moved to town. Were you aware that the Nevada Museum of Art has free admission on the second Saturday of the month? This is the place to glean this type of information. They have a ton of maps, information and ideas for those who are new and the local. If your lucky you might even find out some new history about the area.
