It has taken me seven months to finally write my review for Carrie Anne because what I've learned about myself during my boudoir session (and the whole process leading up to it) continues to unfold even months later. I spent years disconnected and extremely critical of my body. Eating disorder in high school and early childhood sexually abuse caused me to disassociate from my body, my sexuality and my power as a whole. Through many years of therapy, becoming a mother and supportive relationship with my husband, piece by piece I began to reclaim my body and my true self. Knowing that we carry so much emotion in our bodies, I knew the biggest piece of my healing was utilizing my body, instead of just talking, and begin to treat it as the piece of art that it is. So I decided to take the most courageous out of the box, most push myself to my edge of comfort place and do a boudoir session. It was time to reclaim my body as mine. It took me awhile but I came across Carrie Anne's website and this is where the magic began. Carrie Anne has an innate ability to communicate with such thoughtfulness, caring and protective nature. She encourages honesty and vulnerability through the process so once you're in front of the camera, you are much more comfortable and relaxed because you've already built a connection with her. It's very apparent that she does this work for deeper reasons than just taking beautiful photos. She cultivates safe spaces for her clients to transform. It's her passion and you immediately feel taken care of by her. The actual photo shoot (as nervous as I was) became a beautiful reintroduction to myself and my body. It was all so my style, and even things out of my realm of comfort that I really loved. Her hair/makeup person Christina is also the best. She made me feel so comfortable even with how nervous I was and helped me relax. She did an amazing job with my hair+makeup. Back to Carrie Anne and the actual photoshoot. It was really one of the best things I've ever done for myself. She made me feel so empowered, so proud of myself, and also so in love with myself. One of the reasons I had chosen Carrie Anne was her commitment to not photoshopping bodies. I have some body shame issues, but it was important for me to love my body for what it is and what it does for me. Carrie Anne has such a way of promoting self love that I felt like I was on cloud 9 for months following the shoot. I 100% cried on the way home from just allowing myself to feel so many feelings. I poured over the album when I got it, soaking in all those moments again, and parts of me don't recognize who the person is in those pictures. It feels so surreal. There is magic oozing in every photo, and beauty shining from every body type represented. Not only does Carrie Anne have the professional camera skills on lock, she also knows how to model. She led me through my whole shoot, every pose, even helped me into poses I knew I wanted. The experience from beginning to finish was effortless and so much fun despite that I had never done a boudoir shoot before. Her studio has very chill/sultry energy, with perfect natural lighting that isn't too bright, well-placed plants, and the coolest furniture. Her energy is that of a friend you've already known forever. I felt like a goddess and she hyped me up the whole two hours. I come from a past heavily drenched in domestic violence, that has made me feel ugly and guarded for many years. So, this was stepping WAY out of my comfort zone. Carrie Anne made it easy for me to be vulnerable, and I felt safe with her. I could tell right away she is a gentle and compassionate person. I am someone that has always picked myself apart in photos and in the mirror. However, during this experience, I had so many healing moments throughout the photoshoot. I was even lovingly looking at myself in mirrors, (oh and yes she has amazing mirror camera tricks). Even before time of booking, up until after the photoshoot, she was extremely informative, supportive and available to answer any questions or concerns. I really wanted to find a photographer who I felt I would truly connect with, and despite the nerves going into the session, would allow for such an amazing connection to make the experience what it was. One of the most empowering things I've done for myself, and if you're even at all considering booking a boudoir session Carrie Anne is THE best. Truly. Not only is she such a genuine person and really friendly (even before you book the session!), but her whole approach was just refreshing. After filling out a questionnaire about my style and vision for the shoot she put together a beautiful, cohesive lookbook with all the links to the pieces she picked out. I wanted to gift something for my fiancé on our wedding day so I decided to do a boudoir shoot. I was referred to Kelly Anne by a friend of mine and she exceeded all my expectations. She was thorough in how the process works and helped me all the way even down to what I wore.
