We decided to purchase wine and we were told it would be X amount of dollars to have wine shipped (maybe 30 or so). Seemed a little expensive but we were told that would cover all costs (shipping, customs, etc). Wine arrived shortly after we got home and all was good. About 3 weeks after getting home, we received an additional bill from FedEx for an additional 35 dollars for customs fees that we were told would be covered in the initial shipping cost. Essentially 65 dollars to have 3 bottles shipped. I attempted to reach out without any resolution other than "I'm sorry that happened, it happens occasionally". Over the past 3 weeks I have found all 3 bottles that we had purchased at this wine shop at various places here in the US (Costco, local artisan grocery stores, etc) for a fraction of the price of what we paid. Can't help but feel a little exploited. Not only was the wine heavily marked up but hidden costs of shipping made the price come out to an additional 20/bottle. Beware. Don't be stupid tourists like us.

We proceeded to have engaging discussions and a series of tastings including several Grands Cru Classes tastings. We discussed the classification system of Saint-Emilion, when to age wine and when to drink it, how one individual's palate and preference differs from another and how cost should not dictate perceived quality of a wine. Such an excellent place to visit and you will leave with a wealth of knowledge and hopefully a few bottles to take with you.

I stopped in to look at their wine selection because yes, in a place like Bordeaux, the supermarkets are where you can find excellent deals on fine wines. I also picked up a couple of French soaps that looked fancy but cost me less than $1 each (make great souvenirs or gifts for friends and family back home) and an American water (a.k.a. Coke Zero). Since my dad was in the grocery business, it's always been a hobby of mine to visit grocery stores everywhere I travel; did it as a kid and still do it as an adult. Looking at local produce and convenience foods is just plain fun. This is a small store so you aren't going to find a super huge selection, but it has most of what you need to get the job done. They charge for shopping bags so bring your own or buy one of the nice reuseable ones they sell for a few cents more (another cool souvenir). Checkout was efficient but far from friendly but hey, this is France. Nobody smiles, LOL.

Whether it's vegetables, wine, meat or household items like washing pods or dishwasher pods, it has all you need if you're actually living for a week in a nearby apartment. Contrary to other reviews I read, the staff were very helpful in explaining the vegetable weighing setup and I had help on the auto checkout at the end when I couldn't find the correct codes for some croissants I bought. Just try some broken French and people generally were extremely helpful. The building itself is an amazing glass covered circular building, so it's pretty cool shopping there. Yes it's slightly more expensive than other carrefours, yes you can get fresher vege's and bread at small boulangeries etc. but they will not be as convenient or probably even open at the hours this place was open.
