I had family coming to visit and thought it would be fun to get us out onto a boat. I texted the…read morenumber on the website asking if they could possibly accommodate a two hour ride instead of a three and James was very responsive and helpful. He asked for input about where we wanted to go on the ride but also offered great suggestions. It was a nice balance. The day of the ride was SO much fun. There were six of us and plenty of room on the boat to spread out. One of us has a bit of anxiety about boats and James was very reassuring. The island James took us to was peaceful and beautiful and it was amazing getting to float in the still water nearby. He even collected some shells for my toddler to bring home! James is not a Wilmington native but has been here for a while and has clearly worked hard on knowing the area well. The two hours flew by - we had such a great time. Before we got back I was thinking about when we could rationalize doing it again. Highly, highly recommend booking with Salty Feet. Full disclaimer that I know James through a friend, but that doesn't sway my opinion in any way. I'm not affiliated with the business and don't know James well.

Maybe we just needed a diff captain? I don't know that JOE respects women, altogether. I had made…read moreit clear, online, what I was seeking on this private trip for my fam but there was no communication back, so I reiterated it when I got on the boat. After I had mentioned that I didn't want a crowded beach, he took us to a crowded area & then dumped us off in the hot sun to walk to a nearby beach. We had all been exhausted by the sun the day before, and knowing that, he still insisted we walk the 10 min walk in the hot sand to the beach. After a quick dip, I texted him that we would like to explore someplace else as we walked back to the boat & he replied "okay, no worries". But when we got back, he insisted we stay at the crowded area & that he would not be taking us anywhere else. When I expressed my confusion, he verbally attacked me & went onto be passive aggressive & aggressive the rest of the trip. Above all else, what hurt the most was when he was talking with my nephew about being in the military. When I told him his wife, who was seated right beside him, was also in the military, he completely dismissed me & her. I also found out later from my 11 yo daughter that he said some unkind things when I wasn't on the boat & she was still on. I still gave him a $100 tip in cash bc I didn't want him charging my card more than expected. But in no way do I think he earned it. I have not experienced this kind of bad behavior/service from any kind of business in 19 years.

We had an amazing time aboard the Shamrock, a catamaran owned by Wrightsville Beach Scenic Tours…read morethat held about 12 people and a dog for a trip out to Masonboro Island Reserve. This island off the coast of Wrightsville is an 8.4 mile-long, undisturbed barrier island ecosystem in southern North Carolina that can only be reached by boat. We were one of only a few people on the island exploring the beaches and climbing up and down the sand dunes. It was like having our own private island. We were allowed to stay on Masonboro for a while -- we just had to tell the captain what time to come back to get us. This made me a little nervous (what if the captain had a heart attack and died and no one knew we were out on this island?!). But the time went by quickly, and by the time we had to meet the captain at the beach shore for pickup, I wish we had told him to pick us up at a later time. For this experience alone -- exploring a desolate, peaceful, beautiful island -- I would highly recommend booking a boat trip with Wrightsville Beach Scenic Tours. But they also offer other boating voyages, including birding boat tours and dolphin tours at sunset. They also offer themed voyages out to Masonboro, including a pirate treasure hunt for kids and a cruise that focuses on collecting shells. They communicate with you via text to make sure you know where to park on the mainland, and ask if you have any questions. Everything went very smoothly with our boat ride, and it was such a fun experience and a great way to explore the Wrightsville Beach and Wilmington area.

Aloha Tiki Charters - Intracoastal views on the tiki charter

Work rented out the tiki charter for a co-workers bonding experience on a Sunday afternoon and it couldn't have been more fun. We had free control of the AUX cord with great range of volume. They had drinks on board and we were able to bring on our favorite beers, seltzers, waters, and snacks. The couple working the charter were super personable, funny, and sweet. They had a wide range of boat knowledge and made us feel safe while having a blast. The tiki charter can comfortably fit, I'd say, about 6-8 guests. There's barstools to sit on and a sturdy platform to walk around on while it slowly cruises through the waterways. Depending on the day, tide, weather, and your preferences, they'll take you around the intracoastal waterways, past oyster piles, millionaire world traveler boats, under bridges, and out to Palm Tree Island. At the island they anchored and lets us jump out and swim. It was ridiculously warm, the water was beautifully clear, and the tide was calm enough we could splash around and not drift away. The staff dealt patiently with our multiple photo shoots and even offered to take group shots a couple times. They want you to have the most relaxing, fun, enjoyable experience out on the tiki and it definitely showed. The cruise lasted about 2+ hours and I believe the cost was a flat $400 for the group. They have you sign waivers in advance online and meet you under the bridge by the marina before boarding. It's a very fun experience with a professional crew that knows a ton about the area and can treat you a time you won't forget. I hope to get the chance to take my friends out on the tiki soon!
