Driving towards, Montgomery, we drove by this Carnegie library and had to stop--there was a Friends of the Library book sale happening! We're from Alachua County, FL where we have an incredible book sale every year. We love libraries and love supporting them whenever we can. The outside of this building is gorgeous and the interior does not disappoint. It looks so old. The staff at the circulation desk was friendly. We wandered around a bit downstairs. They have computers to use, plenty of adult books and movies downstairs. We took the elevator up, and found the Youth Services area. The YS room is adorable. Lots of books, playaways, cute decor. We moved into the book sale after. It was the last day of the sale, so the deal was to fill up a box (they had boxes available!) for $5. We spent about an hour here. The women at the sale were amazing. They told us about FOL's current project to update the bathrooms at the library. That we needed to take as many books as we could because whatever wasn't bought would be recycled. The whole time they were dutifully boxing some of the books to send to other libraries around Alabama with smaller collections. It was a wonderful atmosphere and a reminder of the kindness I've always seen in people who are passionate about libraries. If you're driving through and have any interest in libraries, Eufaula Carnegie Library is worth the stop. read more
