This is was my first experience with Houlton Family Practice. My husband, who has a distrust of…read moredoctors, ended up making an appointment because his throat was extremely sore and had been for a few days. Thankfuly Dr. Mc Farlane prescribed antibiotics, yay the end of this infection and pain was in sight! They never told us when the script would be ready to go get, but any progressive clinic always has them sent out when you are there or shortly after your appointment because that's common sense, someone feels like crap and is already out for their doctors appointment so they should be able to grab their script on their way home so they don't have to go out again right? Well two hours after the appointment we thought we were safe to pick up the script only to find out it had not even been sent in yet. We called the doctors office to make sure it was the right pharmacy, they told us Dr. McFarlane waits to fill out all of the scripts till 4:30, right befor the clinic closes. When 6 came around the script had still not been sent to the pharmacy and now the office was closed, the pharmacy tried to reach them after hours to no avail. Next morning I called the office and was immediately put on hold, after 30 minutes of being on hold (they must be really busy right?) I drove down to the office, while still on hold, to find only one person in the waiting room and no one waiting at the window. I showed the front office girl that I had been on hold for 40 minutes, to which she did not apologize or even try to tell me why I had been on hold for such a long time. The office girl ended up getting a written script for my husband, but in the end she could not tell me what happened yesterday nor did I receive any apologies for the stress and inconvenience their mistakes had cost us. Ultimately the whole situation has broken the trust we had put in them for care of my husband's health, and the lack of acknowledgement and attempt to repair the patient/caregiver relationship really demonstrates how little the care about the individual patient.

Can't be beat. Get this, I have arrived before my…read moreappointment time and I was called in almost immediately. Most appointments are right on time. Won't have to clip your nails twice while waiting. And the staff? The best in the state. Well, in my experience they are.

This location has been a rather poor experience from the start…read more They advertise they are accepting new patients but they make it near impossible to become a patient, the wait time is rather painful. They want all of your medical records first then the manager of the clinic reviews them to see if they want you as a patient, if they choose to accept you they then assign you to who they think will be the best fit. This takes months..... when I called to check in for about the 4th time (had to keep calling them as the manager would NEVER return my calls) I was greeted with a rather rude F U attitude. I asked about the process, well we are reviewing your records. I asked if this was normal here as I had never had this experience anywhere else I lived and I thought it was weird that a team of people were looking by over my medical records before I was even a patient. She said "well maybe you should go somewhere else" and honestly, I wish I had.... My visits were ok to awful, the. Year would half heartedly take my BP, had it done enough to know when it is being phoned in. Would skip the scale most of the time and barely do an intake to see why I'm there. Twice she also left her laptop in the room and open/unlocked while I waited for the practitioner to come in. I or anyone else who came on could have totally perused my medical record. Typically the visits were rushed, not always as a couple times I had a great visit. The last straw for me was when I had the last appointment for the day at 530, two days prior someone called me to see if I could come in at 430 instead as they had no appointments from 430 to 530 and they could close early. I said no, I had things going on prior. I got there the day of my 530 (early) and sat in the waiting area after checking in (another awful Process on the other side of the building) and waited. From 525 to 548 when I left, I saw nobody. The lights were off behind the glass, nobody came out to room me or even tell me they are late. Nothing. So I left. On the way out I had to walk by the check in area again and told the lady who checked me in, I don't think anyone is in there, the lights are off and nobody came out. She seemed confused and called, didn't get an answer while I was there so I had somewhere to be at 515 and I left. That Friday night I was in the ER for some vertigo issues and then the ER PA called me Sunday and said she really wanted me to get an MRI to be sure it wasn't something serious, she was going to put in an order for my primary care to order one right away for me, I should hear from them Monday. Monday comes and goes, no call. I called the office early afternoon to see about the MRI so I could be sure I had my schedule set for it, nobody called me back. Tuesday comes, I call again mid morning, got transferred to the clinic nurses VM and I left a detailed message. No call back again. I did miss a call at 515PM from the clinic, no voice mail left. I called again Wednesday and asked for the clinic manager who was busy. Left her a voice mail. She called me back the next day and we discussed the issues. When we talked about my evening appointment I was left alone for, she said the nurse and practitioner were there they were just running late. I asked why I wasn't roomed and vitals taken, I know the nurse is not in the appointment with the practitioner typically, I could at least have been acknowledged and told it was going to be a little bit. She replied that the nurse was probably busy calling in prescriptions and filing paperwork. That kind torqued me, I said to the manager, isn't it more Important to get the next patient going or at least tell them you are late rather than sending over prescriptions that could have been done after my rooming? She sat silently, I told her honestly that makes it worse to me, like the patients aren't as important as closing up dirtiness to GTFO. The manager was clearly uncaring and honestly, seems out of her element in this role. I told her that everything is a potential coaching and learning opportunity and instead of giving me excuses that make it look worse, empathize with me and make me feel better about it then deal with her staff after. She didn't like me coaching her on customer service at all, her edge got sharper and her apologies Lesley less sincere. I told her I was wasting my time and then ended the call. Awful place.
