This is going to be long, but it's important. Everyone needs to understand the danger of purchasing a vehicle from CarMax Greenville. I purchased my car from them on September 11th for a total of $18,762, which included a $17,762 lien check from my credit union and a $1,000 down payment out of pocket. The very next day, September 12th, I took it through a car wash and discovered a massive leak pouring through the panoramic sunroof. What's unbelievable is that CarMax told me they had just washed the car before I drove it off the lot. Somehow they didn't notice the water flooding through the roof then. When I called to report it, I was told the service department doesn't operate on weekends and that the soonest I could bring it back was Monday, September 15th. So I did. That was the last time I saw my car. CarMax cashed my check immediately, but my vehicle has now been sitting in their back lot for 35 days while I continue to make monthly payments for a car I can't drive. From day one, this has been an exhausting cycle of excuses and delays. Their well-advertised "125-point inspection" somehow missed a failed sunroof and severe water damage that required a full replacement. I was told the repair would be quick, yet every update since has been the same story. They are waiting on "one more part," always conveniently backordered with at least a week's shipping delay. For a while, I received daily emails from their Service Consultant, Kyle. They were never real updates, just quick notes to remind me that nothing had changed. Eventually even those stopped. It wasn't until I threatened to file complaints with the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs and the Better Business Bureau that anyone from management or corporate bothered to reach out. And now that I have, communication has completely stopped again. It feels like they've decided to ignore me while my car sits forgotten behind the building. What makes this worse is that I chose CarMax because I believed their reputation meant something. I paid more than I intended because I trusted that I was buying reliability and peace of mind. Instead, I'm paying for a car I've driven twice and haven't had in over a month. They took my money and pushed my car aside like it was no longer their problem. There is no urgency, no accountability, and no integrity. CarMax Greenville is not the transparent, customer-focused company they claim to be. Behind the friendly salespeople and polished marketing, they operate no differently than the sketchy used car lots they claim to be better than. CarMax Greenville sold me a defective car, ignored their own inspection promises, failed to repair it in a reasonable timeframe, and treated me like an inconvenience the moment the sale was final. If you value your time, your money, and your sanity, do not buy from them. They are not a trustworthy company. They are the problem. Today is October 20th, and my car is still sitting at CarMax Greenville's service lot where I left it over a month ago. I'll update this review if and when they ever release my vehicle back to me, but based on how things have gone so far, I doubt that day will ever come.

Their cars are mainly sent to sales by other dealerships that don't want them. There is a good chance you are buying someone else's problem.

Had daughters, 2016 Soul, 2.0ltr wreckered to Fred Anderson KIA of Greenville, SC (previously…read morewife's car,as she recently: (month and a half ago,)purchased a new Soul from this Fred Anderson KIA dealership. Purpose: for eval of the engine, based on:recall history of this engine. and licensed repair shop (Certified Auto) informing of metal found in oil sampling. This after: daughter experiencing oil pressure dash light flickering at low rpm,and driving up an incline and recent increase of oil usage. No driveway or visual signs of leakage from block etc. After the diagnosis by Certified, and research, being made aware of the engine isdues being synonomous with thd reasons for the recall, I placed a call to KIA Customer Service the After explaining the issue I was given a Case number and told to take it to KIA dealer for evaluation of this engine, and, I could have two other recall items remidied at no charge. One a software issue, the other ignition theft isdue. I was given code numbers for those two items. I had the KIA towed ($100) to Fred Anderson KIA as I did not want to risk a break down. This was Thursday. I phoned Anderson's to inform I was having the KIA towed there for the eval. I gave them the case number on the engine and two other recalls that National had given me. I was informed by the manager Daniel, that they would be looking at the vehicle sometime tomortow morning. Infound this surprising, and did not expect eval so soon. Thus i did not bother to place a call Friday. Monday I received a call from Anderson's, I spoke with the Service manager (Daniel), he informed: he cannot submit the car to corporate because the technicians noted several areas of oil on the engine, including some oil in the elec oil sending plug cavity. I informed him i found i was surprised, as this is a new unit (screw in oil sending unit switch) i put in less than a week ago, and there was no oil anywere near it. I also informed: the oil is,( I believed) from my daughter,as she had previously informed me she spilled some when adding some oil) I myself observed fresh oil along: the upper valve cover of the engine,on the control arm and converter heat shield. Synonomus with grabitu and wind factors. And I had wiped these areas clean when replacing the oil sending unit switch. I informed him I would come and get the vehicle. I ubered to get the vehicle and drove it home. Before leaving the Anderson's Lot, I noticied the oil light had gone out. Thinking Maybe there was some oil on the connection and they inadvertantly removed it. I drove the vehicle for a day, for some errands, no light on. Oh yes, I forgot to say, Service Manager Daniel stated: they found no observation of metal in the oil. I assumed they drained it. Maybe used a dip stick check. Being i had two differing renderings arrising from the oil light, even after a new switch I had placed before going to Anderson's. my daugher's car was back to ground zero. I was gonna do my own check. I took it in to oil change facility, I requested the service needed, and; requested to receive the used oil and filter back. I strained ( tru cheesecloth)the oil into my flat drain pan, with cheesecloth. No debris, per-se. A few of what looked like blue tinged slivers that when i attempted to pick up. blended into the cheesecloth. I then drained the oil into a pkastic jug. After i had drained all the all, in the bottom of the pan, i saw many sparkles of shiney metal. The pieces looked like the granddaughters glitter. I used a magnet and extracted the pieces. From that pt. my decision was to drop the oil pan and check there. I borrowed the needed items from my son, he like me,(in my younger days) like to do his own work. I might add, he worked for a large dealership in FL as a Service Manager as has helped on the in's and out of dealerships efforts to keep their expenses minimal, especially when dealing with recalls. Anyway, after jacking the KIA, i shimmied under about two feet, and: WTH, the oil sending unit was unplugged, the same sending unit that Daniel told me had oil in it. I looked at the switched and no oil anywhere. Fast fwd. I dropped the pan yesterday: 3/15/2026. I found but a few small. of what looked like metal. Perhaps the new oil changed cleaned out the majority of shavings. I have cleaned the pan and reinstalled it. Reconnected ( with another, new oil sending switch, even though as i noted, the one in place i had replaced aboutless than a week ago. I failed to mention; when i picked the vehicle up from Fred Anderson KIA in Greenville, which i now know, did not reconnect the oil sending switch, billed me $208 for: observing oil on areas of the engine. They did recommended a PVC which I replaced the week before. Along with the $208 invoice, I received a list of recommendations: TO THE TUNE OF $1400. One, the PVC, I had already rplace a week earlier.

Hope Mr. Fred Anderson sees this…read more. Purchased a near mint condition vehicle from them about 2 weeks ago. Black 2019 Santa Fe. Richie was the sales rep. Chris was the manager of the used vehicles department and Cam in services was also involved. Had an issue with my rear driver side window regulator. Even it being a holiday week, they did their absolute best to get the part ordered and replaced as quickly as they could. Thanks to all 3 of them and everyone else involved to make this a great purchase.
