Since the move south and retirement I told myself I would get back into brewing. on my most recent trip to San Diego, I was fortunate enough to visit a few breweries in Vista and stopped by SoCal after seeing an AleSmith West Coast IPA recipe featured on their site, I called ahead of time, and the gal was nice enough to start filling my order. My brother-in-law and I arrived and walked in, greeted by the owner's mom. I told her I had called and she was currently milling my grain for me. It had been near 6 years since my last home brew (www.contributingfactorbrewing.com) and I was excited to bust out another all grain recipe. Now if I can only remember the steps. But that too was included in the recipe. Really a great, one stop show for all you beer needs. To be honest, I had no idea on the price but when I didn't have any other options available at the time, this worked out. That said, I have bookmarked them for future purchases, either online or in person. They might be a few dollars more, but it's a local, family run business. Who can't get behind that. So, thanks SoCal for my brewing supplies. Looking forward to an 8 hour brew day and getting my feet wet in the world of home brewing!

We were looking forward to relaxing and enjoying a meal after a fun day at the park. When we arrived, the hostess was very friendly and got us seated quickly, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, that's where our positive experience ended. The restaurant was extremely busy, and it took quite a while before our server came to greet us. We were able to order waters, but even those took a long time to arrive. After another long wait, we finally ordered our appetizers. Our original server, who I believe said her name was Noemi or Naomi, came across as overwhelmed, stressed, and like she didn't enjoy her job. While I understand restaurants get busy, her attitude made us feel like we were an inconvenience. She wasn't very attentive, especially to our kids, who had been at Legoland all day and were extremely hungry. She never came back to take their food order, and we found ourselves waiting longer and longer without any communication. Eventually, another server took over our table. She was incredibly kind, friendly, and apologetic. We explained that we had already been waiting a long time and just wanted to place our food order to go so we could get our hungry kids back to the hotel. She handled the situation professionally and did her best to help, which we truly appreciated. If you're dining with young children, I'd keep in mind that service may not be the best fit if your family needs an attentive server or timely service. Waiting extended periods without updates can be especially difficult for tired, hungry kids. It's disappointing because the restaurant itself seemed nice, and the hostess and second server were both wonderful. Unfortunately, the experience with our original server left a bad impression. While I understand busy nights happen, the lack of attentiveness and communication made for a frustrating experience, and because of that, I don't think we'll be returning.

THIS time was extra special for me - I'd ordered 8 leis for my father's memorial service. He lived much of his life in Hawaii, so we had everyone wear Hawaiian shirts to his service. It was beautiful. We bought these leis for close family members to wear there. It was SO special. They were beautiful and fresh and were ready that morning, just in time for me to pick them up and take them to the church. Every employee involved that I spoke to was super helpful and respectful and watching them hone their craft in front of my very eyes was super impressive. I'm so glad you all are here in Carlsbad. It's very cute to stop by when I'm in the area visiting some local place in Encinitas. It's a little hard to find parking off the strip, but honestly, it's normally such a nice walk that it's hardly a bother to walk to. Dog friendly (with well-behaved owners) as are most places along the coast, and the vendors are normally sweet small business owners.

I checked out the beer selection and they had a large variety of Burgeon Beer which I was excited about. Here is where it went south. I took it all up to the counter and the rude man rang it up to the tune of $55. I asked how in the world it could be that much and he showed my the price tags, which I missed on the beers, $18.99 and $21.99 for 4 packs of beer! These are overpriced at $15/ 4 pack and these guys took it to the next level. Again, overpriced and rude but it's beautiful day and I paid and took my stuff. But don't worry, when I got home and I took it out of the bag the beers cans were dusty, maybe even dirty, and I checked the cans then their canned dates were almost a year ago! So... nice selection, terrible service, predatory pricing and an inferior product. I cannot warn you enough about this stain of a store on our small town of South O. 1 Star and that's being generous.
