I've liked using Capital Cars for quite a few years. They tend to be cheaper and do only what needs…read moredoing. Granted they cut corners (e.g. cutting through the body to fit the fuel pump rather than charging loads to take out the fuel tank), but I've been fine with that - that's the reason I've continued to use them even when I've moved away from the area. However this time they cut too many corners. They supposedly fixed a problem, but clearly didn't test the car because as soon as I started driving the power was unreliable. After a couple of minutes, I was about to turn around to take it back when the the car wouldn't start again. At some busy traffic lights. On a dual carriageway. They refused to come and luck at it so I can to waste an afternoon waiting while a breakdown truck came to tow it back. When I dropped it back, I clearly told AJ "I don't want to spend any more money on it, so call before you do any work", intending to scrap the car if the problem was serious. What happened? He did more work, to remedy his earlier mistake, then charged me even more.

It had three scratches on the door and a dent on the panel beneath the door. Mark explained to me what the repairs would involve and gave me a very reasonable quote for the job. My car was ready in a few days and looked like new. Not only was it smooth and shiny again but also clean as never before! I can't thank Mark and his team enough for their excellent job. I was recommend County Coachworks by a nearby garage after a stone damaged my bonnet while on a…read moremotorway. It caused a small dent with two scratches and then a couple of other stone dings elsewhere on the bonnet. I have been thinking of selling it so wanted to get the bonnet fixed up so I visited Mark at County Coachworks to ask if he could do the job. These guys deal with a whole range of cars (mine is a little VW) and there were a couple of high end cars in the garage that they were working on. Mark was extremely helpful and gave me a very reasonable quote for the job - so I booked it in. I've just been down to collect it and it really is good as new, I can't remember when the bonnet last looked so pristine. It is clear that Mark and colleague are damn good at what they do, giving the same attention to detail to my 7-yr old VW Fox as the Porsche 4x4 they had to move to let me drive out. If I ever needed work again I would not hesitate to go back to County Coachworks, 100% recommended.

Gilbert Motors are reliable guys. They genuinely do good work, at standard prices for mechanic…read morework. They will usually offer you a reconditioned part if it will save you money, which has saved me a fortune over the years. They do MOTs while you wait but it's worth going on a weekday as there is always a big queue on Saturdays. They will take your car in without prior notice, but be warned if you don't ring to book in first then you may find yourself wating a long time, as they are quite popular and get busy. If possible get someone to pick you up and bring you back later as they don't have a waiting room (although there is a loo you can use if you're feeling brave). They are good at what they do and don't try to rip you off - just what you need from a mechanic.

Obviously there were some checks done on the car to make sure there were no scratches or dents before I take it out. They made a note on how much petrol there was in the tank. Those were done rather quickly and then I was off. When I brought the car back the same checks were performed again and if everything was alright then you can go. The people were nice and service was quick. The car rental was cheap. It was something like 15 pounds for a day. If you are planning on a trip somewhere it might be worth while to check the prices. If its a few people going on a trip might be cheaper to get a car and drive than taking the train.

My normal garage said I had to get my car to them; how? I had used an associate company of CB Motors years ago and when I contacted them they sent CB Motors to help me. CB Motors did a good job and returned the car to my road when it was finished. Only one slight problem, they returned my keys to the wrong house but quickly discovered the mistake. They retrieved the keys and brought them to me and handed them over in person quite late at night. So I have been back there ever since.

Popped in to drop off car, they said to wait, let them check, a few bolts on the wheel were loose, so they went over every wheel, 30 mins fiddling that they said was 'no charge' i paid the man a tenner. Hearn Bros…read more Honestly, I was going to leave it be until I got yet another text reminder from them asking for a 5 star rating online - no chance! It's a bit insulting when they returned my car with new and dangerous defect both times I give if for them for a simple service! Each time It's been running fine when I dropped it off, but the 1st time I used them, as we drove through France the vibrations around the brakes was so strong we had to stay around 50mph until we could get back and have the brakes changed. A year later, I though, fair enough, it might have been a one off and I'm always quite Brixton-centric, but this time they broke the Diesel pipe for the diesel filter so that car was leaking fuel very obviously when they gave it back. They are shut on Fridays (not mentioned) and we had a boat to catch, so another garage (Manolo - grumpy but great) opened-up and found that off the hoses they had accidentally pulled-out (a few meaning that the car have almost no power above 30mph), the fuel filter connection have been roughly bent and broken. When they re-opened I told them and he promised to pay for the damage, and them never did. Don't bother. Go for the atmosphere, the dappled light through the grease covered skylights, bit don't go with your car.
