    Exterior view of cabinettes.

Friendly, clean, inexpensive, quiet, comfortable! I got here after a long day of driving and was quite happy I did. Food in the restaurant was acceptable. No complaints here, though I stayed in one of the cabinettes so the rooms in the larger building may give a different experience.

A really cool building with tons of old pictures of the gold rush era. Pretty basic menu in the restaurant as to be expected in any small town. Service was poor as our waitress pretty much forgot we we were there. The food was par for this type of place. Would not go back unless I could not wait until 100 mile house or Kamloops or I just wanted a quick burger and fries.

Look for this sign and stay here.

We stayed here for 3 nights in early October for a mother/daughter getaway. It was a fantastic…read morevenue for our trip! We both needed some rest and relaxation and loved the tranquility of Echo Valley Ranch. I'm sure it's picturesque any time of year, but this fall was particularly stunning, what a colour display! The drive from Clinton to the Ranch took approximately 55 minutes along a gravel road, it was bumpy in places and quite dusty - but if you had an SUV/truck you could probably make it there in 35-40 minutes. Alternately, Norm has a small runway so you can charter a plane or fly your own. The staff at Echo Valley are lovely and an integral part of the experience. Norm and Nan have selected folks, most of whom have been there for years, who really care about Echo Valley and seem to be a tight knit group. They are friendly, professional, happy people. We felt genuinely welcomed by them and enjoyed experiencing their sense of pride in Echo Valley and the work that they do. We chose a room in the Lookout Lodge with two twin beds, our room was on the second floor with nice views of the horse corral, main lodge and mountains. We really enjoyed watching the horses; come in from the pasture in the morning, go out again at night and interact with each other throughout the day - pretty funny to watch sometimes. The room was well equipped with lots of storage space to unpack and be comfortable, all of the furnishings were in good condition and the room seemed well thought out. My only minor complaint would be noise from other rooms; we could hear others walking around, blowing their noses, etc. throughout the night and in the morning - so if that bothers you at all I would recommend a cabin or more private suite. The food was great! I planned our trip to arrive on Thursday (Thai night) and was not disappointed. The food was well flavoured, fresh and absolutely delicious! I highly recommend including Thursday in your stay if possible. Chef Jason was very accommodating to my dietary requests - and all of the food he prepared was delicious, with healthy choices and comforting. There is no lack of food here. The food is served buffet/family style so you can take as much/little as you'd prefer. 1 glass of wine is included with dinner, other glasses are provided at a minimal cost. We took advantage of their amazing spa. The building, like the others, is wooden and comfortable and exudes relaxation. We were surprised at the amount of services offered and found them to be a reasonable price. We tried Thai Massage while there (first time) and thought it was great; very unique, authentic and so relaxing - our bodies felt great afterwards! I also enjoyed one of the best facials I've ever had, and also a scalp and neti massage - all highly recommended. My mom got a mani/pedi and was very pleased. The spa uses high end products like Eminence, which was a welcome surprise. The staff working in the spa are highly trained professionals with years of experience, you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't try it out while there. We also tried Thai yoga/stretching each morning we were there and really enjoyed it, it was a gentle, relaxing start to our day that left us feeling refreshed and smiling. The Thai ladies that lead you (same staff as kitchen and spa) are absolutely lovely - we enjoyed their company and direction. The animals at Echo Valley are well taken care of. The staff genuinely care about the well being of all the animals and it shows. We enjoyed two trail rides while there and would recommend it, the staff seem to pair the horses with riders very well. They also offer lessons in case you're not comfortable riding. They have boots, helmets, etc. for guest use. The border collies are a lot of fun. They love to play fetch and go for walks and will do so with any and every one. We took a few hikes around the property with some of the border collies, it was nice to have their company while alone in the woods. Lovely creatures. As you can tell, we enjoyed our time there. Folks come from around the world to experience this unique Canadian experience in our back yard. I don't know if we'll ever be back as there are a lot of places on our "to-go list" but it was well worth seeing, doing and enjoying and we highly recommend it.

This place isn't cheap, but it's worth it (and 3 amazing meals a day included): The staff and wranglers are all super friendly. Communal dining with other guests was one of the highlights -- I'm a private person and generally don't like to hang out with strangers on a holiday, but there was no pressure to socialize, and we met some wonderful people on both trips. I guess a great venue attracts great people. Special thanks to Norm and Nan, who truly make you feel welcome without being in the least intrusive. We'll be back!

I have a lot of pro's to list about this hotel, but my experience with the owner over the weekend was so off-putting that I felt a strong inclination to share this experience with the appropriate outlets. First off - the hotel is fairly cleanly kept. We had two rooms and, aside from mold growing in the wood of one of the rooms, we were happy with the cleanliness, design and upkeep of the rooms. The lodge has stunning hanging flower baskets and the landscape is neatly trimmed and properly kept. We visited the weekend of May 26th, during the Clinton Rodeo, so the lodge was at full occupancy. This is the second time I have stayed at the Cariboo Lodge, and my previous experience there was satisfactory. Now for the bad. When we checked in, the five of us in our group requested to split up the room charges evenly. After three of us had paid, the woman (owner) at the front desk became suddenly agitated and said that this was taking up too much of her time. Never before upon check-in (or any other time, for that matter) have I been told by a hotel staff that I am 'wasting' their time. Nevertheless, she spitefully finished the checked in process, and our group had a nice evening on the lawn in front of our room, where there was a great patio table set up. The following afternoon we had a blanket from our room on the grass, enjoying the sunshine. The owner walked by muttering to herself, and when she had reached beyond us we thought we heard her say 'ask for a blanket next time.' Realizing that perhaps she didn't want us to have the room blanket outside, we took it in immediately, though we acted on assumption given that she didn't speak to us directly about it. The next morning we sat down for breakfast in the lodge restaurant, and the owner was the only service staff on the patio. We waited patiently but she seemingly ignored us for a few minutes before finally bringing menus. When we asked for drinks, she informed us that 'it will take a really long time for you.' We said we understood the restaurant was busy and that that was fine, we would happily wait. Many minutes later another waitress came out to take our drink order, and when we relayed that we had already put one through, it was understood that our order had in fact not been put through. We were perplexed, wondering what we had done to offend this woman. The rest of our meal with our waitress was pleasant, the food was timely and very good, and the drinks (once our waitress actually rang them through) came right away. When I went into the desk to pay, I was rung through by the owner. I paid my bill and tipped 25%. At this point she told me, point blank, that she was the one that had been so 'short' with us on the patio. I said I was aware of that. She then went on to say that she was angry that we had taken the room blanket outside and that's why she didn't want to serve us - I said, that's no problem, we didn't think it was a big deal but we're happy to come ask for a blanket from the front desk next time. I walked away without any confrontation, but during the remainder of our stay I was very upset that the owner of a place could be so unnecessarily rude and passive-aggressive. As the face of her business, I was surprised that she had such a disdain for her own customers. On other occasions we saw her publicly berate her staff, without any consideration for privacy or putting the 'best' face of the hotel forward. It was embarrassing to watch. I visited the Cariboo Lodge with a small group of friendly, respectful individuals. Despite our mistreatment we remained friendly - overly-so, in fact, to try to right whatever wrongs we might have been perceived to have committed. Our cordiality made no difference in the eyes of the owner. On our final morning we agreed we did not want to risk another visit to the restaurant and went elsewhere. Upon check-out, the owner snarkily told me 'thanks for coming,' with very obvious contempt in her voice. I politely said 'thank you for everything, but after our experience this weekend we will not be coming back.' She yelled "good!" after me as I walked out the door - in front of other guests and the patrons inside the restaurant. I have been traveling through the Cariboo region for many years and was just very disappointed that such a great hotel is being run by someone with such an attitude. It is with a lot of regret and sadness that I say I will never spend a night at the Cariboo Lodge again. Our experience with the rest of the staff was great, they all did a wonderful job - but it's a shame they have to work for such a person. I hope this feedback might help in possibly preventing anyone else having a similar experience in the future. If you steer clear of the owner, you will probably have a very nice stay at the Cariboo Lodge!

Seriously??? Is this "leaving a piece of dried fruit under the bed" one of the amenities of this chain?? We found what used to be (we think) an orange under the bed here, which was different from the green dried fruit we found under the bed in this chain's Langley location. It was during busy season and we decided to go with Canadas Best Value Inn. As expected from a two star motel/inn place, we didn't have any expectations when we checked in. The check in process was quick and painless, we were given our keys in under 15 minutes. The room itself was tidy (note that tidy doesn't necessarily mean clean). The bed was made, everything was in the right place. They could give this place an update as well as a deep clean. I can see they moved the bed out from the wall which it was originally designed to be, but they didn't bother taking out the wall lamp that was there, or patch up the dry wall where the headboard once sat. Overall the room sort of gives off an East Vancouver illegal rental basement suite vibe that you'd find on Craigslist. Despite the questionable decor choices, all the appliances work in our room, and we are overall satisfied with our stay given the price and the location. Reading more reviews now going back 2 yrs, the same issue has NOT been fixed even tho they say they will. Owners seem to blow smoke to save face. Dropped our bags in room and spent 10 min on computer but noticed the pipes creaking due to weather most likely. It was very noticeable but figured we could put some music on and drown it out. No luck so we went for dinner hoping it would settle but when we came back it was still going. Went back to office and asked about switching rooms in which I was told it's just an old building and all the rooms are like that. I requested a look anyways and sure enough it was quiet and would suffice. I got quite the attitude as she stormed across parking lot mumbling her incredible displeasure. Not sure if it was because I got her off the couch watching tv but she said thanks as now she would have the cleaning fee taken out of her pay. If the owner did that, that would be an issue. Not her fault they haven't been fixed. All I did was sit in a chair at the table beside the front door so nothing was disturbed. I told her I didn't appreciate her attitude so as she steams back in front of her tv, I will now have a good nights rest. I've been working 19 hr days the last 2 weeks and if I can go to bed early and sleep well, her attitude will not let me loose sleep. New room had layers of dust and chunks of bunnies on the thermostat on wall. I blew off the actual chunks. Lights between beds didn't turn on so I moved stand to find used ear plugs and garbage. Missing light bulbs over sink and in washroom but still adequate light. Beds looked clean and comfy and room will suffice but you get what you pay for I'd stay again in a pinch. Just not room 101. 107 was quieter.
