Great food! It was my first time trying Caribbean food and the owner was so nice and accommodating. We especially loved the curry goat and oxtail. The brown chicken stew was also really good. My boyfriend and I are in the Poconos, PA for the weekend. We both love Latin American and Caribbean food. So we were looking for some spots to eat with some flavor. My boyfriend stumbled upon this joint which did not disappoint. The owner was super nice and patient. We ordered the oxtail rice and peas (delicious), a veggie plate, which consisted of Mac and cheese, greens, cabbage, plantains, and rice and peas. So when you look around Effort at first glance, you wouldn't think that you would be so fortunate to find a Caribbean restaurant here... in this rural area, oh but there is! And it's good! Bought a house in Effort PA this year and one of the worst aspects is the local food (or lack thereof). The only thing that delivers is dominos -_- Then I discovered Caribbean deck...Literally the best food in the Poconos and beyond. The owner Shaine is an incredibly nice guy and an amazing chef. The Poconos is blessed to have this place. If I could give it 6 stars, I would! Perfect for sit down or takeout, options for vegetarians and something for everyone. The jerk chicken plate, coconut cake, rainbow cake and Jamaican pineapple and ginger sodas are my personal faves but everything I've tried so far has been great. He gave me a sample of the jerk chicken, ox tail, stew chicken, salt fish, coco bread, and rice and peas. All I can say is WOW! I didn't think I was going to like it, but I fell in love with everything he put on my plate. The rice was flavorful, the meat was tender and juicy. You could tell that food was made with love. shoutout to a true Jamaican owner! from one Jamaican to another, I enjoyed my meal. it was a little different in consistency than the traditional brown stew texture I'm used to. this one was thicker and more heavy, where as I'm used to a lighter / oil based brown stew. still very enjoyable though! he was super inviting and very kind. it was the end of the day so our options weren't as vast, but the food was good. the only criticism was the rice tasted a little undercooked to me. a nice bonus is that there was some grocery selections like shirley biscuits and banana chips, also a few dessert options. I would go again. I grabbed the brown stew chicken, and some other folks got the jerk and the barbecue and everyone enjoyed.
