Over the years, I have been inside the centre many times, as they have a large cafe. My mum and I used to go up for lunch every Wednesday and it was always lovely, real home cooking and friendly service. The unique thing about this centre is the Pilgrimage exhibition. On the upper level of the centre, the display is audio-visual, and takes you through an account of the pilgrims who travelled to the site, which is interesting regardless of faith. It costs a small fee to enter the exhibition, all of which goes towards the upkeep of the Grotto. A nice place to stop off for a cup of coffee and a cake, or have a break if you are visiting the Grotto.

Massive inside, very traditional and exceptionally lovely when all done up for a wedding. My friend used to live in the Parish residence, as her dad is the Vicar! He even married her at her wedding at Dalziel! Near to GLO Christian centre, with plenty of car parking at the rear.

Constantly busy this non-denominational church is well used by community groups and the church…read morealike. People are friendly and welcoming. Worship is a good mix of old hymns and new contemporary worship songs. Bible studies are interesting and informative as the Pastor explains the relevancy of the Bible today. They are easy to understand with the opportunity to ask the Pastor any questions afterwards. There is no separate car park but parking is available on the street. Films, concerts and various other events are advertised on the church website. Also available are free online bible studies. I used to get dressed up in a little skirt and cardi with my long socks on and carry my bible in a wee cover, desperate to get there and see all of my friends in time for the Sunday School, which used to be called the Son Seekers. It was a lovely time in my life and i wouldn't have changed it for the world, and a large part of that is down to Roman Road Hall. It is quite a big church with a few different halls, and always has a lot going on, whether it be the usual Sunday Services or Mother and Toddler's groups during the week, the place is always a hive of busyness and excitement. The website gives you full details of the services that are on, although the friendly members would not hesitate to welcome you in if you decide to pop along on a whim. In fact they would be happy to see you there! I don't attend anymore but my mum does, and i am glad i still have that connection to the place. It's little places like this and memories like these that shape your character in life.

I used to go here…read moreall the time in my childhood, as the majority of the citizens in Carfin are catholic, so most of my friends were always up here at the chapel. The Grotto itself has recently been done up, and it is really plesant to walk around on a sunny day. There are always people around, seeking peace or solice in one of the quiet spots there. Loads of memorials have been left, whether it be on a bench or a lit candle for a loved one who has passed away, it is always touching to see the tributes there. There is also a small glass chapel inside the Grotto, which is open all hours for prayer. It really is a peaceful place, no matter what religion you are. Of course there are statues and images of saints, but even if you are not a Catholic, they are interesting to read and learn about.

It is a large church, with seating for at least 300 people. It is always busy, and the people of Carfin are very loyal to it. I have been in it a good few times over the years for christenings and first communions, and you can tell as soon as you walk in that the chapel is the community. It is the meeting place for most of the residents of the village, and everyone knows each other and are very friendly to newcomers and visitors. The chapel is a nice balance between traditional and modern, and places a huge emphasis on community.
