Writing on behalf of my wife, We booked based off of trial run and review from magazines and recommended in the area. They double booked and rushed our wedding day without notice and promised a full day till 1:30pm but left at 11. They made us call people to get to the venue earlier that day because they were rushing the bride to get both jobs done before noon. Couldn't ask for touch ups cause we were told we're on a limited time line but was told we had and signed till 1:30pm. Makeup artist left at 10:30am to get to the next wedding. Couldn't recommend less. Be ready to pay for your own fake lashes and provide your own mascara and lipstick. read more

I was very disappointed with my experience. Myself and my entire bridal party were unhappy with our makeup. Each artist spent maybe 10 minutes per person, even after we repeatedly asked for adjustments or touch-ups. What's frustrating is that they required me to create a detailed schedule weeks in advance, allotting 45 minutes per person, which I did -- so time should not have been an issue. They also told me two artists would be present, but one of them didn't actually do makeup -- she only "prepped" everyone. After my wedding, I called to share my concerns and was told I'd be refunded $500 for my bridal party. They said they would contact me, but no one ever followed up. When I asked if they could Venmo me, I was told no. To make things worse, a friend in my bridal party who had already booked them for her wedding canceled after our experience -- and they Venmoed her deposit back immediately. Overall, they were unprofessional, communication was poor, and the quality of makeup seemed to depend entirely on which artist you happen to get. Unfortunately we had signed a contract and put down a deposit with Captivating Beauty for our December wedding over a year ago. One month before the wedding MN shut down and we had to move our wedding to Fargo. This company was extremely difficult to work with as we were moving our wedding to Fargo. They wanted to charge several hundred dollars more to come 2 hours away. They refused to refund any of our deposit. I have even offered to get a credit for the services (to use next time we are in the Brainerd area), they refused to work with us. It is unprecedented times and I understand people are struggling, but to not give part of the deposit back or even a credit to use later on... unacceptable to me. read more

In short, I was extremely disappointed with Captivating Beauty!! I will NEVER recommend them to anyone. Steer clear!! When I first reached out to the owner, Tracy Watson, there were no prices listed on their website. I had looked everywhere on the website. When I emailed her she said it would cost $100 for my hair and $90 for each bridesmaid (I had 2). I said that was fine. She had very poor communication until only a couple months before my wedding. After I said $280 was a good price she didn't say anything so I had to ask what the next steps were (red flag #1). Clearly she didn't want business that badly, but unfortunately I am not familiar with the Brainerd area and don't live close so I wasn't going to take any chances looking elsewhere. I was hoping it would be a good company since the resort I had my wedding at is so amazing. So anyway, I agreed to $280 and she gave me her Venmo to pay her (red flag #2). I signed the contract after reading every word of it. It didn't say the price (red flag #3), but we had already agreed on $280. Her deposit is 50% so I paid her $140. She emailed me days later saying I didn't pay her enough so I broke it down for her explaining why I gave her $140. She then claimed "We don't do our pricing like that. Didn't you see that on our website? It's also in your contract. The price is $450 for 3 services". Um no!!! We agreed on $280 when her website didn't have prices on it. Now magically her website has prices and says $450 for 3 services. If she claims "we don't do our pricing like that" then why did she tell me it would cost $100 for my hair and $90 for each bridesmaid?! I don't have proof that her website didn't have prices, but I do have every email we have exchanged. I couldn't stand my ground and be pushy because the contract said if the bride is rude they have the right to keep your money but refuse services and I didn't want to push it with how crazy she is! Her emails with details about hair and makeup kept contradicting each other. One said the hair artist would need a stool, then the next email said they only needed a stool if they were doing makeup. There were also spelling and grammatical errors (red flag #4). Her website always advertised that they don't add on an 18% tip "like the other guys". Magically when my final payment was coming up she took that off her website and sent an email saying an 18% tip will be added. I emailed her and said her website says they don't charge that so she said she wouldn't add the 18%. Talk about false advertising!!! When she sent me the final invoice of course she added the 18% tip so I emailed her again and she took it off. My final payment was due exactly one month prior to my wedding. I paid her on the due date. She sends me a final invoice (again) that had a button to click on to make the payment a couple weeks after the due date. I said I had already paid her through Venmo (another thing she changed. Her website originally said they only accept Venmo). She then said she sent that to show I paid. No she didn't. The invoice said I still owed $200. A week before my wedding she sends me ANOTHER invoice. That one finally said that I had paid everything. The day of the wedding wasn't much better. Naomi was really nice and my bridesmaids' hair looked good all night, but my hair didn't even last an hour. She put my veil in (comb) upside down so it was pulling down my bun and she didnt put NEARLY enough hairspray in my hair! My photographer had to fix my veil! You can't claim you know how to do wedding hair if you can't put in a veil the right way!! I give Captivating Beauty a 0/10 review. Please save yourself a whole lot of money and stress and get your hair done somewhere else!! read more

It pains me to give such a poor review but I honestly would not recommend working with this Captivating Beauty. I live in the Brainerd Lakes Area and when I started reaching out to makeup artists for quotes for my wedding, it seemed like EVERYONE was booked. Then I came across Captivating Beauty and while I felt their prices were slightly outrageous, I felt like I had no other options and so I booked them. The communication was all through email the entire time which is fine but the emails were spotty and not super professional. The owner wanted to be paid through VENMO which to me was a little weird but okay. Her answers to my very straight forward questions were vague. When I would ask again for a bit more clarification she responded with "I answered that in our emails" as in go back and read; I'm not going to answer you again. My bridal package came with a trial spray tan, a trial makeup run, wedding week spray tan and wedding day makeup. The trial spray tan was bad. She used no blocking lotion and my hands, elbows, knees, etc. were DARK compared to the rest of my body. It wasn't cute. My armpits were HORRIBLE. Also not cute. Rather than argue with her or risking looking horrible on my wedding day, I passed on the wedding week spray tan. I was too scared to bring up my concerns because her demeanor wasn't very warm or inviting. Also, her contract states if "she feels you are being rude, she has the right to cancel the contract with no questions asked" and I just didn't want to risk it. Now, on to my trial makeup run. The artist assigned to me and my bridal party was the SWEETEST but most inexperienced makeup artist I have EVER worked with. As stated above, I paid A LOT of money for these services and I did not get what I paid for. NOT EVEN CLOSE. My trial run was a disaster. It ended with me in tears in front of this super sweet, super young, SUPER inexperienced girl. I do not blame her one bit. She tried her best but she just had no training or so it seemed that way. At this point, I did reach out to the owner and voice my frustrations. All she could do for me was offer me another trial run the following week, which I would like to point out was the week of my wedding. I agreed, did the second trial run, it was better but not great. The wedding day came, she did my makeup, it was alright but it still wasn't worth anywhere near what I paid. This thought was solidified when I was looking back at some photos that were taken that day and my skin didn't look great. I would also just like to point out that I have had my makeup done professionally multiple times and never once had an issue. I really am not one to complain but this was just a downright horrible, VERY EXPENSIVE experience. I used this company for my wedding this last weekend! Over all the hair and makeup turned out good for me and the stylists themselves were nice people but the communication was not there at all. They caused a lot of unnecessary stress. In the planning up to the event they were very confused every time I talked to them and it took forever to get a straight answer from anyone. For example, I had scheduled my hair and makeup trail and then the next time I had reached out to them they asked if I wanted to schedule my hair and makeup trial...Nothing was ever written down and even after scheduling me the second time around for the trial they still double booked me and we had to change the time again. My wedding planner and I had also kept them in the loop about the timeline and I had asked them multiple times if the timeline we had set up was doable and they reassured me multiple times that it was just fine! Well, the morning of, when I gave them the time line for the day they told me it was unrealistic and it set us back. The whole company seemed completely clueless. Not that its a big deal but a couple days later they posted a photo of one of my bridesmaids on their social media calling her the bride and show casing their "Bridal Makeup" just another example of them being really just all over the place that they didn't even know who the bride was? read more

I used this business for hair and makeup for 2 people for a recent bridal shower. We have used wedding hair/makeup artists in other places, including big cities like Nashville. I have to honestly say I was really disappointed. The makeup was very basic, something I would've done myself and the hair styling was also very simple. Less than 1.5 hours total for 2 people. (1stylist) She didn't even have lip color. Not worth the $500 I was charged. Yes, they came to my home, but I live less than 3 miles from their business location. All the other stylists/artists always did their services on site. We have paid half that in big cities with beautiful results that looked like we had our special event hair and makeup done. Also, I asked for an emailed contract and fir some reason they were never able to get their email working to sent me details. I'd asked for over 2 weeks and still nothing. I felt amazing on my wedding day thanks in part to Captivating Beauty. Tracy and Melissa listened to exactly what I wanted and made adjustments from the initial trial so that I felt just like me on my wedding day. They came out to our family cabin the morning of the wedding for several services for my friends and family. Everyone seemed very pleased with their work. I'll share photos when I get some. Tracy has been working with me for over six years, helping me with right products for my skin, make-up, treatments, etc. I love the skin care products. I use oil for cleaning my face (love it), then the toner,(which makes my face feel so clean and also seems to even out the tone0, have two different cream moistures for my face, one for winter and one for summer.( help with wrinkles, firming skin, soften, repairs, etc.). I have been in for a series of peels. Great for getting face in condition.The products Tracy used were gentle but yet effective. The make-up that Tracy has is always the colors that are in for the season! Foundation stays on. (Has colors for every skin tone). She has some very pretty eye shadows and blushes. They come in individual compacts. She also has a warm and cool tone collection of various colors of blush and eye shadows. I have really liked having that variety available. Use it every day! I especially like that the products are clean. read more
