Hungry in Ostseebad Rerik? You'll better be hungry for seafood in this small and sleepy Baltic Sea town or you'll be starving to death.
Captain Flint is one of the few restaurants at the "Haff" which is a market place-like square in the middle of the town. Here you'll get traditional Northern German cuisine which mostly consists of some sort of (fried) fish, fried potatoes, and green salad with an undefined sauce. Solid food, nothing special - you'll get a good idea about what the folks eat here every day of the year.
Portion size is okay (see pictures), and so is the value (Brathering mit Bratkartoffeln, 9 Euro, Matjesfilet mit Bratkartoffeln, 10 Euro).
The dining room has a nice maritime theme and it's pretty cozy in there. Be prepared that you'll eat with a lot of older folks - most of them seem to be bored to death. Funnily enough, they don't really talk to each other but will stare at you while you finish your meal. Oh Baltic Sea, you are so joyful and optimistic. read more
