Legend has it that an island shepherd once lost his only sheep while on the slopes of Mount Monte Solaro. He heard the sound of a ringing bell which led him to a steep cliff where Saint Michael appeared and gave the shepherd a bell which he said would protect him from harm.
Shops all over Capri sell bells. Christmas ornaments, hanging bells, wind chimes, figurines and bell charms for necklaces and bracelets. This shop was literally dripping in bells of every size and color! Hanging out front, hanging from the ceiling inside, plus shelves and shelves just loaded with them. Even a jewelry case with both costume and higher end charms.
For my Christmas tree, I selected a light blue and white ceramic bell because I love to adorn my tree with travel memories. 20 years ago in Rome I picked up a Pinocchio ornament and to this day it remains one of my favorites.
To add to my necklace that has an Italian horn and St. Christopher's medal, I picked out a small silver bell that actually rings. It looks fab! My friends all got charms as well and a few other items. read more
