I'm very disappointed with my experience with Capital One so far. Their promotions feel deceiving. I applied specifically for the 0% APR for 12-15 months promotion, double-checked that I was enrolling correctly, and yet I was charged interest on my Savor credit card in just the second month. When I called customer service about this issue, they claimed that I was not part of the promotion, which is simply not true. I always make sure to read the terms carefully before applying. So after over a decade of transactions totaling between 500,000 and a million dollars and probably 10,000 purchases, I finally disputed one because the company double billed me. After calling multiple times to get it taken care of they said their dispute department would look into it. Roughly two months later they wrote back saying they would not issue the refund unless we provided evidence, we cancelled the purchase??? Not sure what cancellation evidence they were looking for given that we were doubled billed without our knowledge. I suggested they look up the company (Nu Car Rentals) on review sites. It generally had about a one and 1/2 star rating and numerous complaints of fraud. They sided with the company rather than their decade long good customer. Hope others read this and choose a more service oriented company. I will be cancelling my card! read more

Capital One QuickSilver credit card and Capital One's less-than-adequite customer service(s) stranded me in the worst winter storm in the USA in the last 25 years by shutting my card down when I needed despirately needed to purchase gasoline. I will take my credit card needs elsewhere. Capital One's customer service is at best 6 sigma to the less-than-adequite regime of a normal statistical distribution of credit card companies. We have requested multiple times online through email and returning their mailings to have us removed, yet they send and send nonstop. This company is really persistent. We would not ever use or recommend them now at all, very unprofessional constantly sending us unwanted, unsolicited promo mailings weekly, we return them now and do not open them. Their credit card team is the absolute worst! What I sent to them : I am getting ready to send you a screenshot which shows what I have been saying the three different times that I've called Capital One about this Quicksilver card. I told you all that I applied on nov 7th and was approved on nov 7th. I do not care what it says on your end about account being approved on nov 18th because I have the dated screenshot. Which brings me to the crux of my frustration with you. All this time (since Nov 7th) I had been thinking that the card was on its way. I even called on either Nov 11th or Nov 12th and spoke with an associate who advised me that the card was on its way. I have the date and time of that phone call (and reps name ) if needed. I called yesterday and this was the first time I've heard anything about my acct wasn't approved until Nov 18th. So what you're going to have to explain to me is how an account that you say was not approved until Nov 18th but yet on Nov 11th when I called , the associate said that the card was on its way. Chronologically things have to make sense. I'm also going to send you a second screenshot which says that as long as a cardholder has more than one Capital One card, the full card number, exp date, and cvv number can be located in the app so that I can make online purchases before the physical card arrives in the mail. I spoke to another one of your associates (Kendra, a supervisor) who lied about that fact and said that I could not obtain that information. When I go into the app, all three of my capital one cards are listed (meaning that I have more than one card with capital one ), however there is nowhere where my full card number, exp date and cvv info is listed in the app. I am not waiting 7-10 days from Nov 18 when number one I have the evidence that it was approved on nov 7 and the email says that the card was being mailed out on Nov 7 and should be received 7-10 bus days from NOV 7th. Secondly, you are going to give me the information because your representatives lied twice : when I called on Nov 11, the associate said that the card was on the way and when I spoke with Kendra she advised that I could not obtain my full card number, exp date and cvv info so that I can at least make purchases online before my card arrives. I am going to stay on you all about this. I have evidence and I'm not going to continue to be lied to by your company. I am not waiting until the card arrives before making a purchase. How can a card be on the way on Nov 12 when someone is telling me that the acct started on Nov 18 ??? At this point, you all need to do something. My whole thanksgiving was ruined ; I was planning to go out of town ; I know for a fact that you all can increase someone's credit limit when you all have screwed up. Unfortunately I had a bad experience with you all a few years back where I had to send in some paperwork. And I sent it and sent it and sent it and spoke to supervisor after supervisor after supervisor. They have not cost me money, but they are irritating. I had an account with ING Direct, and Capital One bought them. They became less competitive. I removed my money in 2018. Fine. But they keep emailing me with subject like "Your latest bank statement is ready". There is no unsubscribe in the email. Logging into the account, which I still can, has no choice to close the account for real and don't pester me and don't sell my info to anybody. So why two stars instead of one? It's not like they took my money. I don't hate them, and they were OK for a while. We're done. But they must be up to something undesireable to not accept that. I have a checking and savings account at Capital One 360. I have to review my statements with a fine-toothed comb every month because they always double debit one or more charges and then I have to file a dispute (for THEIR error) and wait 10 - 45 days to get my money back, which they took "by mistake". They were good for many years, but as many have noticed they found a new way to collect "late fees" which is kind of slimy. Basically, if you post a payment the day they send you the note that payment is due, it will not be "counted" towards making a payment, but will reduce your balance, even if you pay off the card in full. I have zero balance but got a "late fee" because the card was paid too early. It's in their find print, but pretty sneaky. Oh, what do you know... They added auto pay. Finally. After they sent out feedback questionnaires to their customers and bought out HSBC credit cards. But it still doesn't offer what other card companies do: the option to pay your minimum payment + an additional specified amount. I do that for my Discover. Also, if you spend money right before your due date and your minimum payment goes above what the system had set up before, you are charged a late fee and are required to make a separate payment for the difference. That hasn't happened to me, but it says it next to that option. I am so glad I will be getting rid of this card before the end of summer. read more

I did a cash out refi to pay off debt. One was my capital one credit card. My other credit card was paid on in two days, I received my wire transfer one day after pay out day. Capital one was insisting they had not received the check. I did wait 7 business days, and called again. The rep suggested my escrow company gad sent the check to the wrong address. Very condescending attitude. I filed a report with FTC and called cap one to report that. What do you know! ? They found my check and reported paying it on Feb 12th. Now I have a small credit. Recently, I applied for a Capital One credit card, which they approved and sent in the mail. Upon receiving it, I activated the card. The automated recording said that my credit card was activated and ready to be used. The next day I tried to use it and it was declined on two attempts. I called their customer service department and spoke with three different employee who would only tell me someone would be reaching out to me in ten days. I explained there were no other no emails, phone calls or text messages informing me the card had been shut down, needless to say it was very embarrassing to me. Having a high credit score, good income and low debt ratio caused me to have ZERO consumer confidence with this financial institution. They charge high interest rates and are downright low class in my opinion. I shut down this pending review of whether or not I would be a customer with them. My current efforts are to circulate this story to social media so this does not happen to anyone else. I am actively working with getting this on a national network! I sure their hard inquiry with this application will ding my credit score and all I can say is BEWARE of this second-class institution!!! read more

4/12/2021 I won't give one single star to that unknowledgeable credit card company. I got my credit card with that company back in 12/5/2016 by accident. Yes because the staff member working in the application location made a mistake talking to me on the phone. She was a Philippines employee not knowing enough English and she mentioned that I was approved. Wrong! I was stunned to find out immediately that I was not. Consequently, I spent endless hours on the phone and the computer writing to the Executive Office to justify the serious error and at last the card was authorized because they listened to the recording. During all those years I learned that Capital One is a very mediocre credit card company with a very lousy customer service making mistakes non stop and apologizing. Calling the company hundred times to resolve an issue, would get me hundred different responses. The staff is not enough well trained even for routine tasks. The company tries to save money by hiring foreign staff that does not command well the English language. I have to keep repeating non stop what I wish to say. Yes I wrote and I complained about all the above issues. They did not like it and closed my account today. Capital One denied to refund me the annual fee portion of the credit card unused. Then on or about 3-21-2020, I wrote to Capital One P.O. box with the following.  To :Capital One Dear Customer Service.From A V Meyer, account # 5523 1809 7095 6022, I am requesting removal of the $19.00 late charge on my bill for the following reasons.I got unwanted charges 2 times from BVD*BEENVERIFIED for $26.89. When I first noticed the first illegal charge on 3-1- 2020, I contacted them and they credited the 1-31-2020 account on 3-2-2020. BVD*BEENVERIFIED did not tell me they also had charged another $26.89 on 2-29-20. I found out from Capital One on 3-20-20 that the bill was $46.89 so I then called BVD*BEENVERIFIED and they credited the 2nd $26.89. I also canceled the credit card to avoid any further unwanted charges. I also paid the only legit $1.00 charge. I have had your credit card for over 20 some years and never had a late payment, so I hope you can excuse this one time $19.00 event. I still have $278.35 in earnings credits. I have a VISA & MC with them. If I have a dispute, they take care of me. I don't know what to do with all the miles accumulated, since hubby is not using them to buy air, travel. I also have another card from Nordstrom & Discover. But that's another review. Between them & the other two mentioned, I'm happier with Capital One. I always pay off my statement every month. I actually have moved the pay due date on one, so I can pay both using two checks, one stamps. Being frugal still applies with me, since they GO to the same address. While waiting for the 2nd statement (VISA or MC, can't remember which one), I end up paying late by 2 days and forgot it. It was the weekend, so I talked to someone online ASAP, and have a transfer from my checking account, and he was gonna charge me $25 (not sure now or was it $15) for late fees? But because I have good standing credit, and always paid in full ON TIME, he finally end up removing it. It turned out, I was talking to one of my people from the Philippines. LOL Nice huh? I just attempted to obtain a Venture Card that offers a sky-mile promotion, plus greater miles than I receive with My Capital One free subscription Venture Card. Please note: The minimum rate of interest for the card that costs $95 per year is three points higher than the free subscription Venture Card. With the paid card, one dare not make a partial payment. Also note: My FICO's are always above 800 with all three credit reporting agencies, yet this company opted to deny my application. Finally: I am a senior lady. When asked my birth date I offered month and day. When they insisted on my birth year, I asked that they choose a different identification question. They would not and I was obliged to provide my age. That is most impolite. Since it will be two weeks before they send me a rubber stamp rejection letter, the promotion may have expired before I can demand reconsideration, given my perfect credit. I'll second that "you suck" vote. After researching various credit cards, I decided add a Capital One rewards card to my wallet. And as someone with a super-high credit score and 16 years of credit history, I figured I'd have no problem obtaining a decent credit line. I have always paid off my credit cards in full--whether it was at the end of every billing cycle--or at the end of an interest-free period. And I use my card for absolutely everything. I had planned on making this Capital One card my primary card--but with the $500 credit line that was extended to me, that really isn't possible. $500? Really? That's the credit line I had on my first credit card, straight out of high school. Turns out, Capital One doesn't use your credit history to establish your credit line and interest rate. Rather, the more you spend, spend, spend, then they'll increase your credit line. In my opinion, that is a sleazeball way to trap folks who aren't as careful with their spending--or for whom money is particularly tight. Get them to rack up more debt, nice. And for folks like myself who are quite careful with their money and have worked hard to maintain a stellar credit rating, well--none of that matters with Capital One. Don't waste your time calling customer service either. It's nothing more than a sorry lot of folks far, far, far away who are reading from a script. The customized card with an adorable photo of my dog is cute and all, but this card isn't ever going to make it into my wallet. It's worthless to me. BEWARE! I was a faithful customer for years and hadn't used any of my Venture Card rewards. I had an opportunitity to pay down a significant portion of my CC debt, but something went awry with the payment and it didn't go through. As soon as I was made aware of the returned payment, I tried again and it worked. Capital One claimed "suspicious activity" and closed my account and forfeited my accumulated rewards. I called and they said they all they could possibly do is apply my rewards toward my remaining balance. A week later they emailed me and said that my request had been denied. All for trying to pay down my debt. I'm in the middle of a home refinance to boot. This will look awesome on my credit! Thanks for nothing Capital One! read more

I know there is no love for credit card companies in general, but Capital One really takes it to the next level. History: 18 year old me decides to get my first credit card in 1998, a Capital One card with a $250 limit. Now, this was back in the days before debit cards so I pretty much used this card everyday for gas, purchases, and as a young cinema employee pretty much bought dinner out every night either during my shift or afterwards (usually at Denny's with a crowd of coworkers). For simplicity, I would often put the entire check on my card and have people give me cash. So I would max out in 2 weeks or less, make a phone or online payment, and then max it out again 2 weeks later. Got tired of this routine so I asked for an increase, was given $400 limit. Mind you, I'm using over $500/month interest free at that point. So I apply for a card with 3 other banks and get three new cards with $1000+ limits. Call Capital One, they won't budge so I close it. Fast forward to 2010, as part of the frustrations of divorce, I decide I hate banks and shut everything down. No checking, savings, or credit cards. Little did I know, that to credit bureaus having no credit is actually worse than having bad credit. Fast forward to 2015, when I meet my darling - and financially responsible - wife-to-be and look at my score for the first time in 5 years. Yikes....525! So, I need to rebuild. I get a Capital One secured credit card, hoping they've learned their lesson over the last 15 years. If you are unfamiliar with secured credit cards, it involves you giving them a security deposit against your credit limit. I give them $500, and get a $500 limit - basically it is a debit card that builds your credit. After 6 months, they increase me to $800 limit. Gee thanks. At the 1 year mark, I call asking for a conversion to an unsecured card with reward benefits. Conversion means changing the card from secured to unsecured. This is desirable because if you don't convert the account, you need to apply for a new one and close the old one when you're approved. Closed accounts and hard inquiries are derogatory marks on your credit report, so you want to avoid that especially when rebuilding your credit. At this point my wife and I are wed, and I've been added to her credit cards which is a strange way of gaining instant credit history and my score jumps. Also, I can report her income as part of mine as well as our combined assets and change to home owner status vs being renters before. Now that I have access to these other cards with rewards and high limits, I want my $500 back from Capital One and to get a better product from them than a lousy secured card. They decline my request and suggest trying again in 6 months. I think "Fine, what's the harm in waiting. Don't want to ding my credit by closing it in protest." Fast forward to this year, 2018. I've now had the Capital One card for over 2 years. Not one missed payment, not one over limit, and my score has steadily risen despite a large number of inquiries from our car purchase. My income is the highest it has been, especially considering Kristen's income and my credit score is literally "excellent". Get an offer from Discover card with an $11,500 limit and great rewards, no annual fee and 0% for 6 months. I apply and am approved. Call Capital One to try one more time for a conversion, explaining all of the above. Nope. Sorry, it isn't something we can offer without doing a hard inquiry and new application/new account number. So I close the account. In what way is this a good strategy to keep a customer? Many secured credit card companies will do conversions if you've proven your creditworthiness. As icing on the cake, it will take TWO billing cycles (two months) to get my security deposit back via paper check. Had no trouble electronically debiting my account to get the deposit, but the best they can do getting my money back to me is two months. Oh well, another customer gone. read more

I received a rejection letter stating that I had too many financial obligations, when just the opposite was true. I pulled the credit report they relied upon and confirmed what I already knew. When I called Capital One at their Tampa, FL location, they said nothing could be done to correct THEIR error, there was no one to speak to, no one to forward the issue to for resolution. When I called their corporate headquarters, no one would take the call there. They have disbanded their Executive Problem Resolution problem so they can hide in blissful ignorance of their problems while saving on personnel costs. I have never heard from them gain. I followed up about 2 weeks after I sent the last information and never heard from them after almost 2 weeks more. However, the person listed does not now, nor never has lived at our address. We are the original owners of this home and we have been here for almost twenty years.
