But when i arrived to pick it up, they refused to hand the car out. After seeing my Council tax Bill, my bank statement and gas bill as proof of address they still didn't believe me i live at that address. So they do an ID check, where they apparently see everyone that lives in the UK and where. Turns out that i do not exist. after then asking to get refunded, the lady couldn't promise it will be refunded, but i will have to send an email to customer service to ask whether they refund it. When i was getting a bit stronger in my voice the lady told me i had to be careful if i started swearing she would call the police and i haven't even started getting angry yet!!! I then had to phone costumer services from my own phone who then tells me i need to write in. So my weekend was ruined. No car, no money, no way to get to the booked hotel... I did get the money back after first writing in and then calling the customer service for a week. They did let me know that it is only a courtesy from them though to refund my money. Will never ever ever even think of booking a car with them. Sixt is the way into your holidays!

We received a parking ticket, which we paid off ourselves paid off immediately online, not wanting to incur extra charges. However few months down the line we receive a letter telling us that we owe them outstanding ADMINISTRATION CHARGES of 42 pounds even more expensive than the fine itself. this is the first we are hearing of this and they threatened to get their lawyers involved if we do not pay. I have now realized that the internet is flooded with these exact same complains of money being deducted off customer's credit cards as administration fees for tickets that have already been paid. Luckily for me My card was misplaced and hence replaced with another one hence they were unable to do so without my notice.

However, the gentleman recommended we upgrade the car and bundled the diamond/platinum 0 liability insurance or whatever. I was inclined to refuse, but on second thought I really didn't want to have to mess around with international phone calls and the time difference and dealing with the powers that be in the U.K. should an incident occur. It would have been too much of a hassle so I accepted the insurance. AND BOY WAS IT WORTH IT. We went from a tiny coupe to a slightly less tiny Mini Countryman. It was still a tight fit for 4 people plus luggage but it got the job done. We have t mobile and thus have unlimited international internet but once we got to rural England, the reception was spotty at best-- not the best situation to be in when you're relying on your phone as a navigation system. The built in navigation system was thus a godsend! Additionally, the upgraded car came with an automatic transmission. I read in wikimedia commons that it was good to have a smaller standard transmission to navigate the tiny roads, but the automatic really came through in the clutch (pun intended). We had to back into some really tight spots, and to do so uphill and backwards while using the shifter with your left hand would have been near impossible. So yes, paying the extra £13 or whatever per day kind of sucked but at the same time having the peace of mind while being stuck between a wall and a lorry speeding toward you from the opposite direction on a 16' wide road makes the insurance completely worth it. Thank you Sixt for knowing what I needed before I even realized it needed it. You saved our vacation and quite possibly our marriage by giving us the upgrade w/navigation, auto and the insurance. Job well done!

I have been a returning satisfied customer now for over 4 years and have never had a problem with the company nor the cars that I have rented, which can I just say have been second to none! Ive had the likes of the Mini Cooper S, Fiat Abarth, Audi A1 S-Line, VW Golf convertible and most recently the VW Golf R which have all been suburb. Since day one there customer care has been fantastic and attention to detail has had me coming back for more and more! I can only praise them for the tireless work they put in to make sure there customers are satisfied and I personally can say they, Go the extra mile to get the car you need to your door step with the smallest of hassle and ease. On numerous occasions they have bent over backwards either it be I've needed the car for a few more days/weeks at great discount prices or have had to return the car last minute because of personal business reasons and have come out personally to retrieve the car at no extra cost!! Really can not fault them and look forward to many further years of great satisfaction and thrill of driving there cars!! They negotiated a lower mileage rate with me in advance in order to get me to hire the…read morecar and then when I brought the car back they tried to recoup their lost money by charging me hundreds of pounds to wipe off a black smudge that was on the passenger side of the car and spray paint over a small mark in the back drivers side hubcap (which was clearly what they'd done on numerous occasions previously) - and they even charged me an extra day's rental for having the car in the garage to do these two things when (a) I brought the car back almost a day early and (b) it would literally have taken 10 minutes to fix these two very minor issues. Then when I tried to query how they could justify charging me the extra days rental (particularly considering how early i'd brought it back and they clearly didn't have it rented for that day) they just stopped replying to emails. Also I told them in advance that I was taking the car to France and asked about whether I needed anything in the car to comply with French law, rather than saying he had no idea, the owner represented to me that his company is a member of an European association and that the car was totally compliant for France and there was nothing I needed that wasn't in the car - but upon arrival at the car train I found out I had to buy about £40 worth of extra kit to have in the car in order to be compliant with French law. I would never do business with these people again nor would I recommend anyone else to go near them.

When I returned it (having used it only sparingly, on paved roads, in good conditions, with no instance of any impact on the windscreen), the check-in guy discovered a tiny nick near the bottom of the windscreen and they duly charged me nearly £70 above the rental cost... I hired a car from Citicar in Swiss Cottage for a week on 25th July '17. I got a great rate, but…read morewas surprised that the deposit was £350, opposed to other companies like Avis and Enterprise who hold £200. "What's wrong, do you not have enough credit on your card to cover it?" I was asked when I questioned the amount. It was fast approaching 6pm and getting to another company would be problematic: I decided to go ahead. Enterprise are fantastic at releasing the £200 deposit which is done the following day! Avis take 2-3 days. but It has been a week and a day since I returned the vehicle to Citicar on 2nd August '17. Not only have they not released my £350 deposit, instead of putting that amount on hold as normal car hire companies do, they actually took a £350 payment! In calling Citicar I was told there was nothing that could be done by the person who answered the phone. He asked me to send an email to their accounts department, yet it was the same email address that I was given to book the car in the first place, so it's all going to the same office, An absolute disgrace! I'd rather pay a little more for a good service. If there was a minus score rating for this company, that's what i would have given Citicar.

Also extra for roadside assistance otherwise will have to pay for that cost if needed as well. The thing which removed5th star was something I have not had from a car rental company before. The tank was only 1/6thl and was told that should return it back 1/6th full. If it was under they said they would only charge me pump price for petrol, but it all seems a bit complicated. For myself this sounded posible although I did not really want it, would have preferred if the car had been full like at all other car rental companies I have ever used. At the pump it was just impossible to do, as a result I returned it close to full. When I asked they would not refund my card because they said I have paid in advance on the nternet, they also said cars are only given full at airports and not another branches. They also said it is because most customers like to return the cars with less fuel and like the them to top it up. I have probably rented cars about 40 times in the past and never heard any of this. As a result they gave me a voucher which can only be used to get free fuel with Enterprise the next time I rent from them, there is no other option. So next time at Enterprise I can have half a tank of fuel. Again I think this will lead to more problems because how can I calculate a tank being half full. If I receive the tank being half full do I return it empty? I would use Enterprise again as it has been fine, but if this less than half tank full tank thing happens again, I may well go elsewhere. It sounds fine in theory, but in practice is impossible to do it accurately.

Howard (the owner) was able to accommodate me and my guest without a problem. He got me a quote quickly and let me know a driver would be waiting for me at the airport. Alf came to pick us up in an immaculate S 550 sedan. He gave us a great tour of some of the sights in the city, and had great historical facts and stories to go along with every sight. His passion for the city really brought the trip to life. This layover could have easily been wasted time, but thanks to Alf and Howard it started our trip off perfectly!
