Myself, my wife and our dog-child, Sally spent this October long- weekend staying in the Cape Jaffa Wines Cottage. And we were not disappointed! The cottage is only a few hundred metres from their Cellar Door and is a farm-stay style cottage, set back from the vineyards of Cape Jaffa Wines. After our long drive from Melbourne, we were grateful to be welcomed with an impressive cheese grazing board, a bottle of Cape Jaffa Wines '25 Sauvignon Blanc and a 4-pack of Loophole Brewing Co. beer on the table. We visited their Cellar Door the next day and enjoyed a wine flight so we could taste their wine varieties. All delicious - my favourite being the En Soleil Shiraz. Afterwards, we drive the 20 minutes to nearby Robe, for some sightseeing and grocery shopping, to then cook dinner together before flopping on the couch to watch a movie. We stopped in at the adjacent Loophole Brewing Co brewery on Sunday before our drive home, to enjoy a brewery tour led by Tom, their head-brewer. All-in-all, it was a beaut weekend spent relaxing. Didnt see much of the Limestone Coast - we were too busy sipping the wines and beers! Highly recommend a visit and a stay. Jeff read more

Terrible place to visit. Give a miss! Expensive and service average. Not good value. Nice views only exception, best to bring a picnic and sit on lawns! read more

History
Established in 1992.
Cape Jaffa Wines is a family-run business spanning three generations. In 1992, the Hooper family purchased land near Cape Jaffa on South Australia’s Limestone Coast and planted vines in what was then an unexplored wine region, now known as Mount Benson. As the vines thrived in Terra Rossa soils, limestone was cleared by hand from the surrounding hills and the Cape Jaffa Wines Cellar Door slowly took shape. In 1996, the first vintage was released. Our winemaking philosophy reflects our farming roots — holistic, hands-on, and guided by respect for the land. We grow fruit in our own biodynamic vineyards and work with like-minded growers, allowing freedom to experiment without being constrained by convention. Robe is home. Our cool-climate vineyards benefit from ocean winds, limestone soils, and mineral-rich aquifer water. In 2017, that same experimental spirit led to the launch of Loophole Brewing Co. Today, wine, beer, tourism, and events sit side by side, and we’re just getting started.
Meet the Business Owner: Derek H.
Derek Hooper is the owner of Cape Jaffa Wines and a third-generation farmer with deep roots in the Limestone Coast. His approach to winemaking is shaped by decades of working the land — practical, hands-on, and guided by respect for nature. Derek is passionate about biodynamic viticulture and minimal-intervention winemaking, allowing the vineyard and season to speak for themselves. In 2017, that same curiosity and love of experimentation led to the launch of Loophole Brewing Co, brewed just metres from the Cellar Door. Whether it’s wine, beer, or welcoming visitors to the property, Derek believes great experiences start with authenticity, good company, and not taking things too seriously.
