9/23/26 Visit: The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum for my 700th Review! A Must See Museum!…read more The outside of the museum looks like an old castle. We arrived at 12 PM for the 1230 *Museum highlights tour. Unfortunately, we were told that the tour was canceled. A Jewish Artists tour was scheduled for 2 PM. So we had time for lunch. We asked the staff where was the best place for Pizza. They recommended, "The Brownstone". It was about a 10 minute walk. The pizza was delicious! Back to the Museum! Susan was our wonderful docent for the Jewish Artists tour. She encouraged a lot of group participation. On the Jewish Artists tour, some of the more well known artists were Marc Chagall and Camille Pisarro. In addition, Susan pointed out other highlights in the museum. Many thanks to Susan!! The rest of the museum staff were wonderful too! After the tour, we wandered around the museum. The museum has a wide variety of old and modern paintings and sculptures. The Wadsworth has a wonderful gift shop upon entry. The museum does have a small café with indoor and outdoor dining. Street and mostly garage parking is within walking distance of the museum. Thanks for the read and viewing my photos.

When I pulled up, I was happy to see how convenient their parking lot was. I was eligible for a student discount and paid $10 for my admission, my professor could have scored me a free pass, but coming here spontaneously left me no time to obtain one; it's considered charity, so I wasn't upset about it. I told McKayla at the front desk it was my first time visiting and she enthusiastically showed me everything I needed on a map. I like that the space wasn't overcrowded with people, because that would have triggered anxiety. I was surprised to see they had work by Andy Warhol, an artist I am familiar with. They had a wide selection of older and newer pieces of work. I ended up choosing to do my report on Lilly Martin Spencer's 'This little pig went to market' oil on cut arch board 1857. She was the breadwinner of her household which was rare at the time and portrayed women in a respectable way; that won me over. Overall, I am happy the universe brought me here and I got a 105%, extra credit for submitting early!

I was visiting the nutmeg for a wedding a few weeks back when I found myself in New Haven with some friends and some time to kill. We were going to get some food, but figured it was a good time to go and check out the museum before hand. From the second I walked inside this place, I did not expect it to be as big as it was. This place is absolutely massive and stretches across multiple floors and a bunch of different exhibits on each floor. You have large exhibits dedicated to dinosaurs, sea creatures, butterflies, and a ton of extremely old things on display. I definitely spent the most time in the dinosaur room as well as a room full of taxidermy. The taxidermy room had raccoons, bears, large cats, and most importantly, some of the cutest red pandas I've ever seen in my life. I ended up running out of time sadly, but the time I spent here was an absolute blast. Overall, the Peabody Museum of Natural History is such a cool place to spend a few hours. I had a blast checking out all the different exhibits and of course, I had to hit up the gift shop for a magnet and a Yale Peabody shirt. I can't wait to check back in again on my next visit to Connecticut.

This weekend, I finally took my own advice and toured the museum for the first time in years. The Sept. 11th exhibit is among the current features marking the 25th anniversary of the terror attacks. Since I was there to watch the Twin Towers fall in lower Manhattan, I found it difficult emotionally to walk through the exhibit though somehow it was also cathartic. There were interesting exhibits of New York birds, mammals and minerals. I also enjoyed seeing the dinosaurs exhibit and the so called, "Cohoes Mastodon," which was unearthed near the Cohoes Fall. I had so much fun riding the antique carousel with many families. The museum is even open on Sundays. Admission is free with suggested donations. The staff is wonderfully helpful. The attendees are nice and friendly, too.

Fortunately, it wasn't difficult to find a spot when we visited on a Sunday afternoon. Highly recommended!
