My wife and I went here for lunch today. It was our first Peruvian food experience and it was a delight. The restaurant is beautifully decorated Simple and Clean. The menu is fun because it's all new to us. We tried several different appetizers and came away saying that are absolute favorite dish was the seafood soup. And if you're looking for excellent value the sandwich portions are huge and varied. It looks like they're doing a nice take out business as well but we really enjoyed the ambience of dining in. The wait staff seem to really know the dishes and they were very attentive. We look forward to returning again. read more

What a treat! I am so thrilled this culinary establishment exists in Eastern CT. We need more diversity in cuisine that is also high in quality and does justice to Latin American flavors. From drinks to apps to desserts and everything in between, this place was consistently delicious. We were a party of 5 and everyone was quite pleased with their selections. Apps: chicharron: fatty cuts if that's what floats your boat; i'd prefer a higher ratio of crispy skin to fat crab cakes: perfectly moist and flavorful mussels: deliciously steamed to perfection, swimming in a creamy soup base that can be taken home and used for tomorrow's pasta sauce ceviche: generous serving of fish, acid of the juice was perfect. however, cubes of fish could be smaller and odd pairing with sweet potato mash but the ceviche fans at the table loved it Entrees: Hooray for HUGE PORTIONS!! the lamb stew, paella, and chicken a la brasa were all so fantastically flavored my tastebuds were doing jumping jacks Desserts: chocolate cake, picarones, churros: i left for the bathroom and came back in time to see the last bits all devoured so i'm going with they were a fan favorite!? read more

Nice, quiet location with a clean and comfortable interior. I got the Pisco Sour which was wonderful! The server was extremely educated in what differentiated the Peruvian liquors from one another. I shared the truffle fries, yuca fritas, and the Peruvian wings. The best were the wings as they were nice and crispy. All three came with a cilantro aoli which was surprisingly delicious despite me not usually enjoying the taste of cilantro. I ordered the albaca, which was steak cooked to order with a spinach and basil pesto. The steak was cooked perfectly, but was seemingly under-seasoned. The overall dish had little flavor, and had more spinach than basil in the pesto which was a little disappointing. Overall a cool, new place in Norwich that I would return to! read more

This place is awesome. Ask the server about their flavored drinks I forget what they are called but they have these dark colored berry cinnamon infused non-alcoholic drinks that are to die for. I've ordered the ceviche here which comes in a mouth watering lime juice sauce but it is so filling this really could be a main dish not an appetizer. The yuca frita is a must have appetizer item, so tasty. The tuna nikkei is very nice and actually a smaller portion than the other apps. The aveja salad is really nice. The entrees are enough to feed 5 so beware. I've really never had anything I didn't like at this place. My sister is vegan and she even found a little rice dish that she loves. My parents have had the chicken and the tuna entree and loved them. So moral of the story is I'd never even had Peruvian food before I tried this place and I am in love. read more

The food is clean. Portions are small considering the pricing. The place mimics fine dining but is unorganized and provides you small portions. The price isn't justified by the food, this restaurant has no rating but provides you small portions as if it was an Iron Chef's restaurant. The menu's are misleading about the portion sizes and the pictures show you more than you will actually get. The portion dilemma example i used is for the potato "ball" and not more than one like pictured. Seeing that i can buy them for 2$ at the local mom and pop Spanish hole in the wall, i assumed that for 8$ id get more than 1 measly ball. Again, if this place had a rating or could actually acquire one, then the pricing may be justified. Otherwise it is overpriced and probably feeds off of the local hospital employees that are sick of the other older options. read more

I had no idea what Peruvian fusion meant at first... but it turns out it means Delicious!! I've been back over 10 times and each time I try something new and I'm always elated by the experience. Went based on reviews here and was very pleasantly surprised! Had the Truffle Fries (meh), Francais (awesome) and Lomo (super awesome!). As of our visit, they had a limited beer menu and working on wine/drinks so it's still BYOB. Will definitely be back. read more

My wife and ate there for the first time and loved it. The atmosphere and food is great, the staff couldn't be nicer and helpful. I ordered the wings and a Cuban sandwich. Just went here for Valentine's Day to try out a new place near us and I'm so glad that we did! First off the service was wonderful. Our waiter was very attentive and made great suggestions. The atmosphere of the restaurant itself is really cozy and quaint. I was also watching some of the other patrons talking to and hugging the chef which was heart warming. Seeing that I felt like these are probably regulars then which is always a great sign of a restaurant. We started off with the empanadas and the chicharron appetizer. Both were really good but I the empanadas were so delicious. I could have made a meal out of those alone! We also got the Peruvian shrimp chowder which was so good! Had lots of flavor and had a good amount of shrimp in it. For the mains my husband got the jalea, the fried seafood platter and I got the sudado de mariscos which was a seafood platter with a sauce on it. His had just a touch of fried batter to it which was really nice and light. Mine was quite tasty as well, although I did have a little bit of plate envy. For dessert we finished with a pomegranate creme brûlée special which was a nice balance of tart and sweet. All in all it was a great experience and I'm so glad that we tried it. This restaurant is a Hidden Gem in Norwich not far from the hospital. It is BYOB for now, and it's only been open for a month or so, but you'd never know it was a brand new restaurant by the quality of the food and the professionalism of the staff. Most of the other diners were locals, which is always nice to see. Parking is on the street, but that's not really a problem. Upon entering, we were greeted by friendly staff and seated near the antique freezer, which is a Wonder in itself. The restaurant is impeccably clean, neat, and comfortable. For a somewhat small dining area, it felt more spacious perhaps due to the high ceilings and and comfortable small table seating. We were served some ice cold water and a serving of roasted corn sauteed in olive oil with a sprinkling of salt. Delicious! My friend ordered the Mussels, which were a bit on the small side, but the sauce made up for the tiny mussels. A Buttery and herbacious, savory sauce, which I normally would normally never try because I don't like mussels, was delicious with a little bit of toasted bread dipped in it. We both ordered the Lomo, which was perfectly cooked. Most of the pieces of beef were medium or medium rare. The tomato and onions and accompanying broth only added to make the rice more delicious. Very, very finally cut shoestring potatoes were piled high on top of the entire dish. The chef came over to talk to us at our table and he was wonderful to chat with, wanting to know where we lived, how we heard about the restaurant, etc. And he gave us the history of the antique freezer. I would absolutely eat here again. Keep the good reviews coming and this restaurant could be around for a long time. I certainly hope it stays for good. read more

So happy we decided on coming to this restaurant this past Saturday. Located at a quaint location in Norwich this place does amazing on Peruvian cuisine. Started with the mussels and was tempted to drink the broth like soup because it was so good. Mussels were perfectly cooked and were nice and sweet. Had the lo pobre burger and was a delicious treat. This restaurant is highly reviewed so I had to give it a go. Beautiful restaurant with very attractive decor and a great waitstaff. The food? Doesn't live up to the hype. The empanada appetizer was absolutely fantastic. I was so excited to get my entrée and then was thoroughly disappointed by how rubbery the seafood was and how bland the rice was in the Peruvian paella. My wife got the seared tuna entrée with a beautiful piece of tuna over the same bland rice with five pieces of pineapple posing as salsa. Also thoroughly disappointing. I will definitely be back for those empanadas though. My advice is to just stick with appetizers, the wings look great. read more

We are in the last legs of a 28 day journey across the United States, starting out in Tucson, west through California to the SF Bay Area, and then easterly across the United States. Our meal at Canggio restaurant was the best meal we had on this journey. It was so good we went back for a second night. Extraordinary Peruvian food, ceviche, parihuela, a seafood soup, mussels, and other Peruvian dishes. We highly recommend this restaurant to all, and all travelers! Canggio is a gem hidden in Norwich. The seasoning is subtle and delicious. The chef's specials this evening had a Mexican flavor to pay tribute to Cinco de Maio. Good place. Good food. Poor management and extremely spotty service. The first time I ordered takeaway the time estimate was off by 300%. This was through munchme. I thought it wrong and said as much when the second order was similarly off. Not a big deal. The second time I ate there it was 10 minutes to get a menu 15 and shaking down our waitress to get bread 25 to get the drink I knew I wanted before I sat down and 45 before the waitress, Jessie hill (cashier on receipt) , let us know she lost our entire order because she doesn't know the computer system (she also forgot the drink order). We have a 1 year old. I will come back and request not that server. Expect bs with your good food, but that's not bad for Norwich. read more
