Every time that I visit my hometown I find new modern and hip restaurants, and Cala Boca is one of those: located in an old street nicely gold illuminated at night in downtown Sabadell, is dark and lovely in the inside. Minimalist yet well studied decoration with old school chalkboard where you can see the tapas and drinks of the day. I really liked the thick plastic bag where our Albariño wine was served, it was very chic and I have never seen that before. The place was packed last night, with tons of people enjoying their food and people watching while getting some fresh air. About the food: some tapas were amazing, like the cod based and the padron peppers. However I did not enjoy that much the calamares a la andaluza (calamari Andalusian style) nor the pulpo a feira (octopus Galician style). Calamari were too gummy and the bread covering it was too thick and there was not flavor so I asked for some aioli sauce. As per the octopus, I just prefer it cut in disks and only boiled with paprika and olive oild added, and this style seemed to be a little bit fried and the flavor was just ok. Patatas bravas were good but not awesome, I would have add more spiciness in the sauce, it was too blend for me. The mushrooms mix was very good, i did not even know so many of the varieties presented in the dish. The yolk of an egg was add to the mix and I find it very creative and tasteful.

Casa Pepe is located a short metro ride (Red Line) from downtown Barcelona in Santa Coloma (Santa Coloma stop in the direction of Fondo). This place has all the favorites and we were eating relatively light so we only had four of the highlights: paptatas bravas ( fried potatoes with aioli), pulpo a la gallego (octopus lightly sautéed with garlic oil and lemon), pinchos (pork with middle eastern spices) and of course tortilla de patatas. Este verano hay una chica terriblemente grosera que parece ser encargada o recepcionista y que se alterna con un chico latinoamericano que lleva años y que es bastante cordial. La primera vez la chica fue agresiva para explicarme que si venía solo y sin reserva mis opciones eran la barra o una mesa en la ventana con el sol a tope. Aunque no me gustaron sus formas, agradecí y preferí irme Hoy decidí ir únicamente a tomar una ginebra a las 4 de la tarde, le pregunté si todavía era posible, me dijo que si y después la misma dinámica, Barra o Mesa asoleada... Debido al horario habían muchas mesas vacías y le pregunté si podía ocupar alguna de ellas y ahí es donde mi insolencia y atrevimiento de pedir algo fuera de su "guión" despertó su ira. De pésima gana me dijo que esperara por que tenía que limpiarla y cuando ofrecí sentarme en una limpia para no molestarla se abalanzó sobre la mesa en cuestión a limpiarla ente resoplos y palabras inaudibles que supongo no serían demasiado cariñosas. Le dije de la manera más amable posible que con esas formas y de mala gana prefería mejor irme Y así lo hice. No pretendo afectar a este negocio ya que como dije, su servicio siempre había sido correcto pero si es hacer conscientes a los dueños/socios/responsables de "La barra de Sant Cugat" sobre este hecho que al menos a mi me obliga a no volver. La Estrella del show es una botana de papitas, con pepinillos y mejillones bañados en salsa Espinaler. La variedad de aceitunas también nos pareció muy buena. No es barato y se paga un premium por la experiencia pero vale la pena. Muy buen servicio y ambiente.
