I've really only ever written a handful of reviews on yelp. Sadly Camping world in Wauconda is just a miserable experience from beginning to end. I originally called this location to try and find a replacement awning after ours was significantly damaged during a thunderstorm in spring this year. I placed call after call, left voicemail after voicemail, was transferred after transfer after transfer, then day after day, no return calls, no communication! Finally was able to talk with somebody in parts to help me order.......and here we are, literally Fall, and still no awning. Excuse after excuse. Went here after seeing them at the Chicago RV show. Salesperson was ok, but would not answer a couple of pivotal questions about the difference between a destination trailer and a fifth wheel that I needed answered so I could decide between the two. The bad part came after, it has only been a week and my husband has already had at least 3 emails and 2 phone calls. We were very up front about not buying for another few months, but I guess they really wanted to reconnect. read more

On behalf of my brother. Too bad there isn't a rating less than one star and all due to the horrible customer service I received when I had to return an item. I had the pleasure of working with a Camping World salesman who helped me with the purchase of a hot water tank for our Mallard trailer. Everything went smooth. The guy was a great help! Purchased the tank, extended warranty and received a free membership to CW with the warranty purchase. When my HVAC guy came to install the tank he questioned where was the 'switch'. I was assured that it wasn't needed. No big deal - I'll just go back & get it. Well it wasn't in stock & not available for two weeks. Here is where it gets good. I informed CW I had to return the tank to which their manager who I will not name (you know who you are Dear) loudly rants as she's walking away "I hate selling those things to people who don't know what they are buying". It took all my might to stay composed and not snap back. The tank was returned & they gave me a refund less $80! They said they could not return the money for the warranty $50 nor the membership that was free! I did get the $50 back - but they kept the other $30. Left a message for the salesman & he never returned my call. I will never waste my time with CW. read more

On September 30, 2022 I received my 2022 357UMR. During my walkthrough we noticed multiple discrepancies (which we were told were fixed, including my Jack system), two months later my jacks still do not work and everything else was hastily repaired to get us out the door. We had an hour and a half drive home from camping world, when we reached our destination it was discovered that the refrigerator was not bolted down, it was toppled over leaning on the kitchen island. The unbolted refrigerator ripped off the trim, dented the refrigerator in multiple places, and pulled up vinyl flooring. That happened on 30SEP22, on 20NOV22 it was half-ass repaired by a mobile mechanic. On 20NOV22 (our 2nd time pulling the camper), we departed and drove 7 hours to MO, when we arrived the barn door was ripped out of the wall, the washer and dryer combo (was never bolted down properly when installed at that dealership), was toppled over and in 47 different pieces, the plywood under the vinyl as well as the vinyl in the mud room is destroyed, the cabinet the washer and dryer were stowed in was destroyed, the wall behind the washer and dryer was destroyed. My camper is losing value at an alarming rate due to the failures of that service department. When I called there the service manager told me, "don't worry, it will be better than when you bought it when we get done". Those are the same idiots who installed the washer and dryer. I've been waiting on a call back from the general manager for three days now. When I spoke to the camping world help line I was told, "I'm not sure what you want me to do about it" when I asked to speak to her manager she got angry and I'm assuming never put in the request because I've still not received a call back. By far the worst service I have ever received, by the time your company is done destroying it, I will be lucky to even own a camper. Do not ever use this establishment for anything. read more

Where to begin? We purchased a new fifth wheel in November '15. I delivered my trade-in and truck (for fifth wheel hitch install) the day before picking my new RV up. They LOST my trade-in. Once found they claimed I never gave them keys for it. Upon getting home with it, I found many problems. Among them was a melted electrical cable from the battery. After dealing with these problems for our first trip, we brought it back to Camping World. There it sat all winter! If you like free winter storage and sub-par repairs, Camping World is your place! On five different occasions I was called to say repairs were done and RV was ready for pickup. After driving 2 hours to pick it up, THEY HADN'T EVEN TOUCHED A SINGLE ITEM. 20 hours of wasted drive time! After many calls and promises from managers, still nothing was getting done. Now in April of 2016, camping season here, we still didn't have our trailer back. With fear of these issues not getting fixed, I turned to Twitter. I got an email address for Marcus Lemonis CEO. After contacting him, I received many phone calls that evening. Items began to be fast tracked. Once again I was contacted stating my RV was ready for pick up. This time most items had been fixed. Some still remained. The ones that did remain did not justify leaving the trailer for yet another four hours of wasted drive time. We waited for next fall. This past winter our RV was there for yet another winter stay. Again, some items were not fixed others were fixed incorrectly. I am a contractor and know what quality work looks like, or in this case, lack of. I shouldn't have to repair a trailer under manufacturer warranty. My black tank valve has leaked for over a year. Builds up behind the cap. This time I sent out yet another email to the CEO as well as the regional service manager. I did not receive a reply. They have written me off. They have failed ever chance I have given them to right their wrongs. This place does not care about the quality of their service department. I feel bad for the folks who do not know how to repair their own RV, and don't know what to look at. The ones who bring there RV to the "professionals" to diagnose and repair the issue. Ultimately they are the ones getting screwed by this place. They really do not care. I've contacted them multiple times, not for compensation, but to give feedback in hopes they would fix their broken department. It is a lost cause. Stay away from Camping World! Our experience started good but ended poorly. We recently brought in our RV for a combination of inspections and service. One of our key instructions were to provide pricing on Lithium batteries if the house batteries needed to be replaced. Scott called us with the pricing for the "lithium" batteries at $540 per battery for 2 replacement batteries. My wife and I were both on the phone when he confirmed they were Lithium batteries. We picked up the RV, and prepped for our trip. Prior to leaving I opened the house battery compartment to find not Lithium batteries but Lead Acid AGM batteries. I checked the price on the exact brand they used to find that the actual cost of these batteries were $365. We were committed to our trip and had to deal with the situation when we returned. However I called and left multiple messages for Scott, never to hear back through the 2 weeks we were on the road. When I got back I spoke with the general manager, who assured me they would correct the situation. Scott finally called back, and I was finally able to get him on the phone. Scott claimed that even though the batteries were not Lithium, they were properly priced. I pointed out the discrepancy, and yet he persisted to claim that "their cost" was $540 and that the cost was "right" consider they also charged $208 for the installation so this was not a case of up-costing to cover installation, they charged me a premium price to install 2 batteries in one of the most easily accessible storage compartments. I asked that he speak with his manager and respond with some form of resolution to address the overcharge of $350.00. I never heard back and sadly don't expect to in spite of maintaining a calm and reasonable attitude with an open attitude to resolution. The best case interpretation is a combination of poor communication and disregard. The worst case is bait and switch fraud. I was looking for a reasonable refund of the delta between the market price and the inflated and unreasonable price they presented as their cost. Now consider my all in bill was over $3000.00 for the service. IT seems they are unwilling to engage in a reasoned negotiation to correct what is clearly a failure on their part. The CEO of Good Sam's catch line is "..if your not happy, I'm not happy..." Well I am not happy... And will not be returning to Camping World. read more

Number one disclosure, I only went here for camping supplies, not to purchase an RV. Number two, this is not in Chicago. Once I researched and found that there was a Camping World of Chicago, Mom already had her hopes set that we would "stop in". It wasn't necessarily on the way of near the side of Chicago that we were planning to visit, so it was a total for about two hours out of the way for us. Number three, the GPS route is misleading, it recommended that we park roadside, instead of making two extra turns into the actual parking lot. When you pull into the lot, the supplies is in the nearest building. The other building serves as the call center. We didn't really have a particular shopping list. I ended up scoring a new RV showerhead for under $20 and a few random items that I never knew that I needed until I catch sight of it there. Mom picked out a rug. They didn't have any other than the one on display. When they attempted to remove it from the display bracket, the rug ripped. I asked the less that gentle cashier man if we could order her one online and he made a snide comment. Literally, every employee that we came into contact there was less than polite and could use a good a customer service course. Even if I were passing by this location in the future, I wouldn't stop in. I'll stick to my online shopping and avoid bitter cashiers. read more

Went to go look at a travel trailer. First off I didn't like the feeling when I walked in. No trailers in a showroom, but a ton of office cubes. Interesting. Next, the trailer I wanted to see was apparently sold that day, but they still were willing to show me it. Why would I want to look at a unit I can't buy? Then they wanted to show me similar models which I was not interested in. Not only did I not see a SINGLE travel trailer, they right away were asking how much I want I spend/ put down on one. Coming from a heavy boater I am new to the travel trailer world, and the last thing I want is to feel pressured into a make and model. I don't really know much about them, including even the brands. Here it was exactly what I was not looking for. High pressure. Walked out. Regret wasting my evening going here, should have went elsewhere. read more

We had a great buying experience at Camping World of Chicago with Patrick our salesman. He only showed us what we wanted in a trailer and did not try to push anything else. We bought the trailer we loved with a trade in for good price. After we made a first trip with it we found that the door is scrapping the inside of the door jam. We called service for someone to take a look at it to determine if is a easy fix or not. We were told to make a drop off appointment and would get to it in an undetermined amount of time. A week, couple of weeks no idea when. I can understand on problems however the mindset of the RV service department is totally lacking any customer value. Camping World is just as bad as any dealer once the money has changed hands as any other. Imagine my surprise when I went to yelp to post a review and see my truck and trailer as the first picture that says "Happy Camper". I have been calling for over a week to get in for service. I have left two voicemails and two receptionists have also taken my name and number and walked back to the service desk to hand deliver. I have also emailed the salesperson with no response. NO ONE has returned my call. I have leaking hydraulic fluid under my slide and it has ruined the flooring. I have had my trailer 3 months. I have a punch list of problems and need to winterize. I wanted to share my experiences with Camping World in Wauconda. The people there Aaron and Roy in Sales are extremely knowledgeable on the units and the sales process. They are not the hardcore sales people at all, they give the impression if you want to buy it of course we will assist. Although their first priority is making sure I was going to be happy with the unit I purchased. I purchased the unit due to the sales team at camping world Aaron and Roy Debra, in the finance-business department couldn't have been more attentive to the getting the lowest interest and finance terms Sean, the service manager really runs a customer focused service department from dropping off my trade and purchasing additional items the service team went out of their way to locate the items and find me the best price. Dave and Tyler who went though the walk though went over every detail and answered every question. They made us feel this was the only reason they came in today was to walk us though this new RV I would recommend to all to go Camping World for all your RV needs read more

Found the perfect pre-owned camper and were told to come by the next week and it would be ready. We came in and we were not on the calendar for pick-up. This is where things *could have gone south... but instead, EVERYONE at Camping World "stepped up." John Dargie is THE BEST technician! He busted his ass to get our camper ready while we waited. He followed through on all the items on the "We Owe You" list. He provided us a thorough and detailed orientation and patiently answered ALL our questions. He provided helpful tips and hints to keep our camper in tip-top shape. He is skilled and humble. We really appreciated his efforts and think he went "above and beyond" for us... someone else's error put him in the hot seat and he delivered 110%. Roman, the Finance Manager, hustled to get all the paperwork together and provided us a discounted price on the camper for our trouble. He also secured excellent financing - much better than our local banks could offer. Finally, Tim, our sales professional, produced a gift certificate for us that brought the cost of our shopping cart full of camping "fun stuff" to practically $0. I am giving one star because you have to give one. The GM, Roman of the Wauconda/Island Lake location is in my opinion rude, unprofessional and misogynist. He has no people skills. For my interaction with him alone I will never give Camping World anymore of my business. It's unfortunate that the good work done by the employees in the Service Dept. was over shadowed by my experience with Roman. George, the Service Dept. Manager, Erika and Ben - thank you for your professionalism and follow-through ownership. You were the bright spot and I sincerely mean that. The core issue was Camping World miss placed my new trailer because they shipped it out to another location in error (to sell AGAIN) and when I went to pick it up Roman blamed me for their error because they did me a "favor" by keeping it on their lot. It was not a favor, it was a customer service that his salesperson agreed to at the time of the sale. Therefore, the responsibility remained with them to know where my trailer was located. Things escalated with me quickly when he tried to turn it around on me so I promised him a yelp review for his "favor". Way too many employees, yet no one to help you. Put the cell phones down and take care of the customers!! We were looking for information on portable waste tanks. I approached a girl at the parts counter and made my inquiry. I interrupted her texting on her cell phone. She suggested that I talk to the bald guy whom she pointed out across the store. I asked that she let him know that I was waiting for him, once he was available. We decided against making a purchase of the portable waste tank as they only had one brand. Instead we chose some other small items and made our way to the cashier, where we waited for five minutes for one to show up. I won't be driving over an hour to visit this place again. read more

My word of advice for anyone looking to purchase a camper in the Midwest, please do NOT buy a camper from Camping World. I am writing this in hopes to save even one person valuable time and money. We bought our camper about three years ago after looking for about three summers, and finally took the plunge when Camping World got the one we wanted in stock - a keystone impact toy hauler with the extended garage. As first time camper owners, maybe we rushed into it a little, but after the pleasant experience we had with the service person and store sales associate I felt comfortable with our decision. In order to keep this as brief as possible - I'll mention now that since our purchase of this camper it has been taken to one of three Midwest Camping World locations over a dozen times for various problems - most notably for repeated issues with the generator, and immediately after purchase for softening of the shower floor - and I also think it notable to mention that we did purchase an extended warranty on the camper as well. Our most recent experience is as follows. This past December, we took our camper to Camping World after Brian noticed softening of the garage floor. Our camper sat at camping world for over a month and the only thing they ever said was that we must have spilled something, as they checked all the plumbing and found no issues. We were quoted $8000 to fix it, which they then so generously offered to fix for $5500 instead, which Brian refused as we knew for certain there was nothing spilled back there because to be quite honest we took very good care of this camper as it was new to us and we wanted to keep it nice. Nothing more than a case of bottled water had ever been in our camper garage. So we took the camper home. Fast forward to now. Brian decided to lift up the flooring since the weather was getting nicer to see if the damage was something he could fix himself - and he found the floor to be so immensely molded, rotted and damaged that he called back Camping World and took the camper back up there to look at again. Brian filed a claim with our insurance since according to Camping World back in December, it wasn't a plumbing issue. We received a letter from the insurance adjuster stating they would not cover the damage as it was found to be a plumbing issue which is not covered under the policy. When I called to ask Camping World about this I was told that this couldn't be right and it was again insinuated that something had been spilled instead. I then had a lengthy conversation with the insurance adjuster who told me it was very clear to him that there were water lines in the garage that indicated some kind of leak coming from somewhere ahead of the garage. He also indicated he had made some suggestions to the service department of things to look at, to which he never got a response back from them - another example of the lack of attention and care they have for their customers in my opinion. Since then I've had several conversations with service personnel and have still not gotten an explanation directly from them as to where the damage is coming from. When I told them we had had our camper there for shower stall issues the first month we got it - I had to provide them with a work number because apparently they don't have access to all camping world work orders there and unless you tell them that they don't take this into consideration. I was told hey hadn't realize there'd been work done before - like that makes any difference in the fact that you're unable to tell me what caused the damage now. My phone calls are not returned timely, my campers still there, and Camping World still has no answers for us. It has been stated by the insurance adjuster and the service director that it is clear the damages are not from any fault of our own. Yet here we are - making payments monthly on a camper that's been inside the Camping World service department more than we've used it to camp. This version is so brief I can't even begin to name the ways that I've been made to feel like our time and money and most importantly business to Camping World is not valued in the least. It's very sad that something that should have been so enjoyable has turned into such a disaster. I can't speak for all Camping Worlds but I can say this - if I could go back, I think we still would have bought the camper, just NOT from a Camping World. If you or your friends or family are considering purchasing a camper - I urge you to check out the smaller RV dealers who may appreciate your business, time and money a little more. Obviously Camping World is too big of an industry leader to devote time to customer service and satisfaction. read more

Ray was amazing the night we pulled up looking for a camper. Drove in 2 1/2 hours away and we were there close to closing. But that didn't matter to him he drove us around and showed us campers probably for over an hour. So we leave call immediately the next morning and make an offer on the camper we told him we wanted, told him we would not be able to do anything until Tuesday since this is now Friday and our schedules didn't work out. They were ok with that and repeatedly asked "we are still coming Tuesday"I said we will be there first thing so set up all the appointments since were driving a distance for 8 AM. We had to have a brake put on the truck so we wanted to make sure everything was scheduled early. And we were giving them 3 days notice. Well we were there at 8 AM and they did not have us scheduled for the brake until later. We ended up spending six hours at Campingworld. RIDICULOUS And since have called financing to ask some questions about the title paperwork and never get a call back I guess the deals done! They have a large selection of campers but just plan on being there all day long read more

Have been working with Chris M., from the service department at the Camping World in Island Lake, IL, for maybe a year now. It has been nothing but positive. He is very attentive to our concerns and wants to resolve any issue as soon as possible. We have a class C motorhome and travel quite frequently, so we tend to shake things lose during our travels. If we have any questions, I email him and he is very responsive to help! He's courteous, knowledgeable and attentive. If he is not sure about something, he investigates right away and gets back to us promptly. Very glad to have him as our service rep. read more

I originally posted a review outlining the poor customer service (excerpts below) and also contacted the BBB to file a complaint. Since then, a corporate representative called me and, ultimately agreed that their wauconda/island lake location was at fault. They refunded the pre inspection fee in a timely manner. So, it's important that I acknowledge their overall remediation and the correct response from the corporate level. I do hope that their local store is held accountable for the original deceptive practice and that the refund came from them. "They checked every box on the pre- delivery inspection report, charged $500 for the inspection...and then simply didn't do the inspection. When confronted with proof it wasn't done, the manager just says it's not a binding contract." read more

I purchased an RV cover here two weeks ago and had an unusual learning lesson. Cover was meant to protect my RV from Snow and Rain. I put it on the RV last week and seam on driver side of rear roof came apart, about a foot. Well this was not good, it was defective. I returned to Camping World for return only to be told the item I purchased was non-returnable once opened. You see, the person who sold me the cover (Todd) told me a lot about protection plan but never once stated that "hey, you can't return this once its opened". The manager at this store kept insisting that I need to contact manufacturer "Camco" on getting the replacement RV Cover. Her reason for not accepting the return was "that it would be a loss to her store since she cannot resell a defective product". This goes to show Camping World does not stand behind the products it sells and the company doe snot hold their distributors or manufacturers accountable for return of defective products. Essentially, handing that risk to customers who shop their and provide the business needed to keep their company running. I have been shopping at Camping World in many different states (with good people working at most stores) for the last 6 months as a new RV owner and this will be my last time I will be visiting here for any supplies. So all of you should keep in mind that if shopping for RV supplies or parts, all sales are final once you open that package but if you don't open the package, how would you know if the product works for you or not. read more

Read all of the responses to the bad reviews that they have gotten. All they say is, "we are sorry you had this experience." There is no correction. As an executive for a company, this is not how you handle customer service unless you just want revenue and sales. Repeat customers are based on customer service and their experiences. I was shocked to spend $7000 and then have to hook up my own camper. I pay a year's worth of storage and get better service than this. Drop it off, no end date on site, charge you what we want, and when you show up, the battery may be dead, no one will help you, you RV will look like crap, but hey it's COVID and we are short staffed. read more

Initially i was told that the next available appt would be more than three weeks out, but Tyler (the service manager) squeezed me in and took care of us when he heard we needed this done to go camping this weekend. Once the money exchange hands, Kiss it good bye! No help from them whatsoever! They take things from your camper and just forget to replace it. I purchase it January 2021. It's a Wolf Pup and when it was delivered, parts were missing for example, the bumper rack was taken. Have not gotten it back. It was a purchase camper. We owned it. They had no right taken it! Many other things have gone wrong with this camper. The latest is under the kitchen sink. Cold water line connection is leaking and they will not send anyone out to fix the issue. So now I have to get water from my neighbor next to me. I have been given nothing but the run around time after time. There are many other issues with this camper. Too many to list at this time. I will now start spreading the word to not do business with them. I am very good when it comes to social media! Wait and see Camping World! I am tired of your BS! Time to get real! read more

We purchase a Van from Camping World in Nov.2, 2021, at the time we took out the Good Sams extra insurance. Very expensive!!!! We are since selling the camper Van, and in May we requested a refund of our Good Sams extended warranty, we were told by Debra that the paper work was done and that we will be getting a refund of $8,601.00 WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED THIS. I called Good Sams & the company that handles extended warranties (Assurant) to Pamela and they have no record of our cancellation. They said that they just receive the paper work but do not issue a refund, it comes from Camping World. We have not received one penny of this refund and we need it NOW!!! we are dealing with a lot of money here. Debra said she sent it in in May, but they have no record of it... Do we have people who are lying to us from CW, Wauconda I am so tiered of the run around and really hate to get a lawyer involved but do not know what else to do. I am also getting in contact With Better Business Bureau. At this point I am suggesting that no one do business with Wauconda CW, at least if it involves money. We need our money. read more

Friend went in for routine maintenance, came out with a massive hole in his RV. They are refusing to fix it, which leaves him in a pretty bad place. You would expect a place that specializes in RVs to know how to fix one, without ripping a hole in it. Apparently that's too much to ask for though. read more

They've had my camper sense December 18th 2021. they fix the problem with my slideout and return the camper back to me around April 15th 2022. I get it home and open the slideout and same problem, take it back a few weeks later around may 6th when I get home from traveling for work. Sense I've brought it back I have called every couple weeks to check in and ask for the progress but always excuses or "were working on getting it in the shop next week" finally September 14th 2022 I speak with them and they are writing up an estimate to send to insurance to hopefully fix the problem, sense then I've called just about every day and sometimes 2-3 times a day sense 9/14 and I get sent to voicemail or if I'm lucky to talk to my service rep or manager I get told " we are busy and we will call you back". My camper has been here for 10 months, I use this RV to travel for work. This has been a huge setback. Once I get it back I will never return to a camping world for service or sales, what an awful experience. Let's see how service handles this issue. I dropped off the camper for annual inspection, etc. Work appeared to be done, no issues. Bring camper home and try to lock it. Door lock works fine, however I cannot fully engage the deadbolt. The key starts to twist as I try to use the deadbolt. I use the deadbolt whenever camper is locked so I know for sure it was functional and turned easily. Not happy about the prospect of having to drag the camper back up to Camping World to look at this issue. More to follow. read more

So I should of posted this days ago , but better later then never. My friend and I went to look at a used trailer they had advertised for sale price was 24.900. We met with the salesman Don or Dan not sure. My friend was very interested in buying it. Dan told us that they do Not pull out old one ,they were Not interested in the trade in. So she would have to have the old one pulled out when they delivered the new one.Also they do Not do the set up , she would have to hire someone else to set it and hook it up. Wait what??? He also told us the people who delivered it charge about 2 dollars a mile. Our property is in woodhaven lake so going high it would be about 250. He comes back with the paperwork. No Negotiation on the price of the trailer. The delivery charge with $1695.?? Wait what??? And that's without set up?? But better yet $3000 down and her payments would only be $447. A month for 12 years. I'm no mathematician.!!! However are they out of their minds??? @ 17.9 % interest?? Omg do the math!! She could of bought a used 2016 camper for $64000 that is without the $3000 down payment and another 1500 or so it would cost her for the set up.what a bargain!! NOT!! I don't know if they saw 2 females walk in and think that we were just stupid. My personal opinion is that they are just shysters!! I would not recommend anyone go there to buy any type of camper or trailer. And what camping place doesn't even come and set up for you or have people to do it?? Buyer beware!! We traveled a hour to get there, spent another 2 hours there. What a waist of 3 hours of my life that I'll never get back!! This place is unprofessional!! And a joke!!
