I finally have the opportunity to review one of my new favorite places with some of my new favorite people!!!! Lonnie sold me a 2017 Rockport Micro Lite. Did a great job getting it reduced for me and taking care of "stuff" after. The "stuff" was leaks in the seals they couldn't have known about. Thank goodness it rained! Anyhoo, Lonnie got it to Melissa, the service manager (who narrowed down my camper choices for me and made me know several months ago this was the ONLY place I wanted to buy my camper) popped it right into repairs with her amazing crew. On top of that Chris Stubbs, during his OFF time, did an extra repair on the plumbing! What a crew! Even in the store, everyone knows me and my giant dog by name. I will follow up on this review when our service is completed. However, our communication with service rep. Melissa Wilson has been very professional and reassuring. I told Melissa that we have had our share of bad experiences at other dealers. This is our fourth travel trailer. Our walk around for purposes of seeing the condition of our trailer on check in and our discussion about the needed service were very clear and understood by both of us. The assurance that the service would be done in a timely manner and that communications would continue during the service leave us wanting to give a review of 5 up to this point. They went out of their way to help us. We originally purchased a fifth wheel from camping world in Asheville and the fifth wheel had major damage and was salvaged. It was full of rot and black mold. They covered it up with FRP with the side rotten and the pin box separated from the frame. Camping world of Asheville avoided our calls and kept giving us the run around for 9 months. We by chance stopped in to Tom Johnson camping Center in Marion. The stuck by us and got the problem resolved. I highly recommend Travis and Bob. They went above and beyond to make us happy. read more

I had recently traded our 2015 Monaco Dynasty in for a used 2014 Newmar King-Aire and we found a few issues that needed to be fixed during the initail inspection. I was told they would be completed before we closed the deal but that didnt happen. I went ahead with the deal anyhow and was told the parts (all minor) would be sent to me and must say they did just that a few days later. Todd Hall was my sales rep and I will def talk to Todd on our next Coach, he was very honest and upfront on the entire deal. The General Manager Scott is also first class and made sure everything that was promised was done. After reading the reviews on Yelp I was in doubt but I must say all Doubt is gone at this point, Great People!! I guess you cant please everyone in todays world but they sure did on this deal. I had a very good experience purchasing a camper. Everyone was super nice and accommodating. Circumstances caused me to return the camper taking a $3K loss. Selling it back to them was another story. I was lied to about them paying my bank, I was ignored and overall, if you buy, they will be ok but not if you are on the other end. Also the camper had issues that they didn't take into consideration although it was less than a year old. As with any business, communication is key and the lack thereof was evidenced. read more

This team is amazing!!!! They all have gone above and beyond any 5 star rating. Alan Good turned a poor dealership experience in Mocksville to warm permanent 2019 welcome at Tom Johnson's. The sites are spacious, the store well stocked, & service impeccable. Plus the cafe offers great food with a friendly smile & service too. Candice always follows up on any work or service I need with Keith; while Marty checks in frequently. Thanks to this awesome team for keeping us all happy campers. Well, the verdict is in. Try not to go there, only in an emergency. Yes, our motor home was bought as is, we asked while signing paper work. That was ok, 2016, less than a year old less than 5000 miles. We assumed a lot, don't assume. Never buy near the end of camping season unless you buy from a person or a small dealership that Will stand behind their merchandise, actually you should always only buy from s dealership that Will stand behind their merchandise, get promises in writing. Always do a SERIOUS walk around check drawers, cabinets make sure they pull out right, make sure the lifts in cabinets stay up like they are suppose to check covers outside make sure they lock and unlock correctly raise bunk beds if equipped, check for leakage, possible mildew, etc., especially since there's been so much flooding, check the tanks under your rv. Make sure you have all lug nuts and no damage with hubs,etc, seat belt issues, this seems crazy right? You'll have many sleepless nights if you don't do these things. Why do they have so many campers,and so many to repair...and of course go inside while its raining to actually see if there's leakage. Thank goodness ours doesn't leak, at least don't think so. We got in an extremely heavy down poor while waiting for repair that may have caused a small question. Please don't respond to this e-mail saying sorry for your issues. I'm still hoping someone will say some of the charges on our credit card are absolutely rediculous and they will be the honorable dealership that you'd want to take your camper to. The staff I don't think is the entire problem. They are going what they are told to, because again its a huge dealership.....always read the reviews. We arrived to take delivery and everyone was very helpful and knowledgable. I had the same experience as a number of other people. We bought a new 2019 Class C. We had storm damage to the roof and brought it back to them for repair. We were promised the world. Then excuse after excuse. We got it back 6 months later. I asked numerous times to please make sure the batteries and generator were kept in running order. I was told by Brandon in the service dept. that it was ready to be picked up and the batteries and generator were checked. After a 4 hour round trip to pick it up we got it home. The generator would not start. After contacting Brandon at Tom Johnson he just told me he oversees a number of RVs and doesn't have time to make sure the job has been done on all of them. $200 later after taking it to a local RV dealer it was working after they removed a large nest of mice. That generator hadn't been touched since it was there. There were numerous other warranty items that were supposed to have been done that weren't. They just don't care after the sale. read more

Bought motorhome on April 26, 2019. Went back on May 2 to pick it up because there were a few things that needed to be fixed although we told them it had been gone over with a fine tune comb. Ha. We camped 4 days n they did nothing. We left n told them to fix everything on the list we had left on dash. We called about a week later because they had not contacted us. The salesman said almost everything was done. The next week we got a call from service department asking for keys. So it had been sitting on camping site for at least a week. We told salesman we had keys n hw said don't worry, we have a set. Really. We called the service department n found out it had finally been moved to service department, after we had to mail them the keys. The service department said they would call n let us know when everything was fixed. Come to find out the TV in bedroom did not work so it had to be replaced. Would have to order one. The bed was suppose to be sleep number bed but no remotes were there. The salesman told us the prevyowner has taken that mattress out n replaced it. No longer sleep number bed. Well service department said the one in coach was sleep number bed but no remotes. So we have no idea what kind of mattress we have. We hooked up dish so they could tune it. That still hasn't happened. The dish will only last for a month. We paid $40 for a month. Well the month is probably over. I am not paying to turn dish back on. They should have already fixed tv. It is almost the end of May n we still don't have the coach. That's almost a month we could have used it. I will NEVER buy anything from them again. Terrible everything. No one will call you back. We live about 4 hours from Marion so we can't just run up there at the drop of a hat. If something goes wrong , if we ever get it, we will take it somewhere else to have it fixed. This business is ridiculous. Salesmen n service both stink. read more

I wouldn't accept an RV from this place if they GAVE it to me if they had to be in charge of servicing. We've purchased other RVs from other camping worlds and the Marion location is the WORST I have EVER visited. The service center is terrible - they lie about everything. They do NOT follow up on parts orders or scheduling. Our RV is a 2017 and they have lied about everything - from the financing to the servicing. Please - do your homework and save yourself a lot of headache by getting your RV from some other dealership! Just a side note - it wasn't like this until Camping World bought it from Tom Johnson. Ordered a Steering Stabilizer through Tom Johnson Camping World in Marion, NC. They called and said the parts were in so an appointment was scheduled for a 1:00 installation. We arrived 30 minutes prior to and was told the Service Writer was out to lunch. Finally it was time for our appointment. After waiting 15 minutes past I went and inquired about our appointment. The receptionist stated the service writer was still at lunch. Finally the service writer arrives 20 minutes late, does not introduce himself or apologize and ask where are the keys. I inquired how long it would take and he responded about an hour. Two hours later the service writer shows up and stated they could not find the parts. TWO HOURS and they can not find the parts and have made no effort to keep us updated. It is now 3:25 and was just informed they found the parts. We decided to visit the new Camping World store here on the grounds to look at a new GPS since they have just started installing the stabilizer. I asked if we could borrow one of the many golf carts sitting around and was denied. They called a shuttle golf cart to pick us up but no one ever arrived. Now 4:30....checked with manufacture of stabilizer and they state approximately one hour for installation. 4:45 pm and finally out the door. read more

Purchased a new 5th wheel in September. Upon delivery we had a list of 4 things that needed repaired. Was told it was "Warranty" work and would need authorizations. Called numerous times, left messages with our service advisor, left message with service manager, wrote emails and here it is the end of October and we still don't have our new 5th wheel. Why can't they just take the parts from one of the other 10 models sitting on the lot...not like they will all be sold in the next few weeks! I have to say that Tom Johnson went down after selling out to camping world but guess what! They are turning it around. I had a very bad experience earlier this year but now, they have Bob that worked for Tom Johnson himself and he is GREAT! He does what he says and if he hears that someone needs something, he does everything he can to help them. We purchased a Class A last week and we could not have been treated any better. Bob listened to what I had experienced in the past months and apologized for it and made everything up to us. He is making the place back like it use to be when everyone loved it. My family and I visited Tom Johnson camping center in Marion, NC on June 4, 2017 and it was a very very poor experience because of our HORRIBLE sales person named Christi Johnson. My husband and I were looking for an RV and also had my son and fiancé with us looking for them an RV also. Well this sales person (and I call her that instead of sales lady cause she was definitely NOT a lady) was RUDE AND SARCASTIC!. She even asked how my son planned to go from looking at a fifth wheel to looking at a travel trailer meaning he could not afford the fifth wheel. For one Christi Johnson you don't have a clue what his financial status is and frankly it is none of your business! We all ended up walking out after she got an attitude while we were in her office. Dealing with Tom Johnson Camping Center in Marion has been the worst buying experience we have ever had. They promised things that weren't delivered and everything took hours longer than expected. Arrived on a Saturday to have 5th wheel hitch installed - they said they had no idea we were coming even though the appointment was verified twice with our salesperson. Took 5 hours for installation - did not install the hitch we were told we were going to get. When I went to hook up to my new camper it was sitting outside the detail department but had not been touched. I had been sitting there for 5 hours - no one told them to get our camper ready. Hooked up - drove home - realized they had not transferred our tag. They have promised to overnight the tag and several manuals that were not provided when we picked up the camper. We will see if that happens. This whole experience was the perfect nightmare storm! Too many things happened to go into detail. The only thing they did that they promised was install an upgraded microwave - but we had to clean up the mess. Terrible experience - will never go back. read more

My wife and I decided to start camping again as our daughters were older and in college. We live in Marion NC about a mile from Tom Johnson Camping World formerly Tom Johnson Camping Center. We had bought other campers from Tom Johnson Camping Center, when Tom owned it, before and had great experiences so that's why we went back. Just like some of the other reviews after they get you money service and courtesy go out the door. After our first trip there were a few warranty issues that needed to be taken care of like a small hole in the canvas of our brand new popup, lights not working correctly and the entertainment center not working. I called and made an appointment to take it there and drop it off. After 2 MONTHS of no one calling us for an update went by and no one had touched it yet. Needless to say I was not happy and it ran thru my head if Tom was here he would be very upset with this type of service but it's Camping World. After 3 mounts of not having the camper I went and picked it up and traded it at a different dealership with GREAT SERVICE. Camping World needs to understand that there customer make there business. read more

Bought a class A diesel from Camping World in Marion. It is used but did not expect it to have roaches rats and dead batteries discovered after we got it home. Had all kind of electrical problems and even a bent from tie rod. They offered no help and even tried to charge me $383.00 to fish out a transmission dip stick from the full line which never had a dip stick. Very sorry dysfunctional company. read more

I bought A 2007 C class motorhome on 12/12/18. was told that the gen. cover was gone and a new one had been ordered. well at the beginning of January I had not heard nothing. so I started calling. getting voice mail after voice mail on the16th of Jan. we drove 150 miles up there. it had not been ordered. by the way we was told not to run it because it would over heat. by now we have found some other things wrong. so we were going on a trip. Jan 23rd - Feb. 2nd. ask if we could just bring it to be repaired. while on the trip another 150 mile trip. Was told it would be ready by the time we got back. WRONG. more phone calls and voice mails because no one will answer the phone. in the service center. Here it is February 20th. and still no camper. So service before sale was Great. service after sale not so much. already made two payments on it and missed two camping trips. and I forgot. Was told that the top had just be sealed. first rain it leaked. I had to seal the place. and with a closer look could tell it had not been sealed in a long time. I'd give this place a negative rating if Google would let me. I bought a camper there in May, was unable to take it anywhere or even make my first payment on it, because the dealership didn't put the transaction through until after my temporary tag expired. The GM at the time, Bob, fast tracked that for me finally, admitting that it was an error on their part. Come to find out, a new awning had been purchased by the previous owner, but the dealership never installed it for some crazy reason. Upon contacting Bob, the now former GM, he, along with the salesman I dealt with and others, left the dealership within the past month! Curious, and disturbing, that staff, including high-ranking staff, would look leave so suddenly. And I can certainly see why! Upon trying to reach the new GM today, I was kept on hold for nearly 30 minutes, my entire lunchtime, for a call that would never be answered!!!!! They simply kept putting my call on hold, until eventually the answering system kicked on and hung up on me! And this was the first time in weeks that someone even answered the phone! I just want the awning installed is all, but I was never even granted the courtesy of an answer to any of my calls!! A call to another local Camping World revealed that they had been receiving numerous calls from people completely frustrated and at their wit's end over the complete lack of communication and customer service at the Marion location. They agreed that the new awning should've been installed prior to the camper being sold to me. I didn't question the tech who was explaining the features to me when I bought it and who said the items on the bed were "parts to my awning" which I believed were the poles to support it rather than a new, uninstalled awning - it is my first camper, how would I know otherwise? They installed an air conditioner, why the hell wouldn't they install a new awning the previous owner purchased for it?!?! It was a while before I even knew what it really was, as the terrible flooding throughout May kept me from camping, as did the issues with my tag and finance which went well into June. I've since tried to get the awning installed, but no one's had the decency to even speak to me about it there!! This place is customer service at it's ABSOLUTE WORST and I am VERY sorry I went over an hour out of my way to go there. I will not make that mistake again, and neither will anyone I know - not friends, family, my patients, or their family members!! read more

Terrible service for doing repairs to my motor home. They took two days identifying the problem on my RV. Labor for this was $900. After I complained about the price, they said to bring the RV back the next day and they would do the repair work for free since they said it would be a small fix. All I needed to do was to buy the parts. When I called the next day to set up a time, I was told the mechanic that had worked on my RV was going to be on vacation that week. I asked if anyone else could do the work and was told that one other mechanic did that repair work but was going to be off as well. Since I couldn't set in Marion NC for one week and needed to get home I had no choice but to leave. I am home minus $900 and still have the problem. The only thing new is that they told me what the problem is. Maybe I can just try to do the repair work myself. Lesson learned: Do Not Take RVs to Tom Johnson Camping World in Marion NC! They will not complete a job!! read more

I have never written a bad review before but my experience here has been excitement to disappointment, back to excitement and again disappointment. I was under the misconception that once you sign papers, shake hands with manager and purchase insurance on the camper and schedule a pick up time that you have bought a camper. I didn't want to get my kids hopes up so I completed application for pre-approval before looking at campers. We were told that we were approved and could come look at campers. My husband, daughter and I found one we loved and my 10 year old was so excited. When we left we were under the impression we were picking our camper up on Monday and made appropriate arrangements. Monday morning I get a call that financing hadn't went through and we had to wait. Later that day was informed that we couldn't get a loan to cover cost so started looking at cheaper used campers. We found one we loved, the kids were so excited and transferred $500 deposit. I submitted requested paperwork and waited for the call to let us know when we could come and pick up the camper. Only when the call came it was that we couldn't get financing. So I had bought insurance on a camper that was not mine, so when I wanted a refund on the premium I had paid at the dealership, I was told that the policy was cancelled today so it would be prorated and I would only get a $12 refund. This ordeal has been such an emotional roller coaster, not just for me but especially for my children. I knew that my credit was not great and that I am the only one working along with my husbands disability, that is exactly the reason I completed the application before looking. So after all of the paper signing, hand shaking, I have to once again tell my children that we will not be getting a camper. The lesson I have learned is, signing papers, shaking hands with manager, buying insurance, and scheduling a pick up time does not mean you have bought a camper. I just hope that by telling our experience that we will help another mother and father by not getting their hopes up and have to comfort a heartbroken child crying her eyes out. ~Disappointed Mama~ read more

This review is late in writing as it took us almost a year to fix all the issues associated with the purchase of a used RV MotorHome from this dealership. Since we were flying in from out-of-state we worked closely with the sales rep to insure any issues with the RV were fixed prior to our arrival. The sales rep said they had a couple of issues, but they were fixed and the RV had been through pre-delivery and there were no issues. Upon arrival, the initial walk through took less than 30 minutes, then you are asked to sign a document that indicates all systems were operable. My mistake. Due to late arrival, stayed overnight in their campground. TV didn't work, and black water indicator was red (possibly full or malfunction). Asked next day about TV and was told campground was in a bowel and reception is not great. Even if this was true, camping world did not check the TV. Later discovered TV was not even connected. Black water was emptied and indicator indicated normal. Started to leave for trip back and turn signal didn't work. Finally got fixed (2 hours) and once on the highway with darkness insueing, left headlight did not work in low beam. It was unbelievable a dealership would sell an RV that would not even pass a state inspection. Upon arrival in home state a state inspection was conducted. It took 600.00 dollars to fix all the lights and harnesses that Tom Johnson's Camping World failed to fix. There were several items that Camping World couldn't fix prior to delivery (we were not told ahead of time), but a promise was made to fix those items at Camping World in our home city. Upon delivering the RV to our home city Camping World, it took five months to get the RV back and it still wasn't completely repaired. The service was terrible and the communication with the client was non-existent. Had to drive 100 miles round trip on weekends to get answers. After finally getting RV back, discovered water damage to slide out floor, roof caulk cracking, previous rodent occupation, engine low power (igniters and regeneration filter), and continuous problems with the awning. Yes, our learning curve went vertical as did our anger at Camping World, both Tom Johnson and our home city (Houston). One has to only look at the dissatisfied Camping World customers online and wonder how this company is still in business. read more

we took our 2001 coachman camper to them for simple repairs on july 23rd 2017 understanding that it was an older camper and be hard to get parts.we made multiple phone calls and texts to our service rep, Amanda Johnson ,were always told the same thing that they were waiting on parts.they were nice enough to winterize the camper for free.in early may we went to service center and they realized that they were trying to order the part to fix water heater from wrong company.in about a week we got a email from Amanda that the camper would be ready in a week.then recievied another email saying it was ready now.meanwhile we had decided to trade it. when we went to pick up the new camper part of the deal was we pay the bill for repair.while moving our belongings to the new camper we noticed that most of the repairs we had paid for were not done so I called Amanda and she said she would check it out and call us back, we never received another call. so my reconmondation do not take camper there to be repaired. read more
