Went here in 2012 for a 2 week holiday , after many years doing the south of france , I finally got…read moremy way and wife agreed to try the north during summer , ( we have been up there during winter though . another story ). I found this via the 'UK Campsite' site , and after a few pro and con reviews , thought I'd give it a bash. Booked online as advised , no real problems as reception staff speak good english. The site is large and spread over quite a long 'strip' of beach/dunes area , check out on maps to see what I mean. Site is basically split in two sections , the bottom site which is directly attached to the huge ( Clean, Well looked after ) beach , where they offer a large assortment of activities , sailing , dune buggies , wind surfing , volleyball , sand sailers , etc etc. This section also has the bar/restaurants takeaways and a few shops , library and other activity areas. This seems to be where the younger members of families congrgate. The top upper section (this is where we were pitched ) was a little quieter , this is where the main reception is , there area few shops and bars just over the campsite entrance , which is manned by security at all times. There are launderettes , toilet blocks , and play areas for the kids dotted about all over the site. The main kids play area at bottom was monitored by security cameras which we found to be quite reassuring , on that point , the outside of the toilet/laundry blocks also had cameras which appeared to be watched all the times , as if a group of kids/teenies started to congregate around the area , very soon the security would arrive and move them on. The blocks themselves were cleaned constantly throughout the day , and always appeared spotless , one note , the british style sit on toilets they use , do not have a toilet seat , just a bare(excuse me) ceramic rim. May sound harsh , but in fact they are a lot wider than our ones , and allow your seating to be comfortable enough. No seat , means they can clean the whole unit a lot faster and deeper than would be possible if lifting a seat every 2 minutes. The staff are all very friendly and have a good command of english , remember this is a mainly french and belgian site , they don't get many brits other than on overnight stops. The area it sites is exactly on the French/Belgian border , in a small dunkirk suburb called Bray Dunes , and the wife loved being able to walk to the belgian chocolate shop , just 30 seconds from the campsite. Two very good bars just outside gates , and for the smokers one of the bars has a cheap cigarette shop attached , and of course they are even cheaper just over the border , where they are situated every few hundred yards. I was going to say that further afield the historical , ww1 , ww11 monuments/cemeteries and numerous sites are within easy reach , but the whole area is steeped in it , you only need to walk around the campsite vicinitee to appreciate what the area has to offer. Shopping locally is well catered for with a local Carrefours supermarket (medium size) , just a long the road , toward dunkirk , or a belgian DeHanne supermarket , just along the road in Adinkerke , both sell a wide range of every day products ,from food to camping , and drink is never a problem , wine starts at Euro 1.66 for a 70cl bottle , go nuts.
All in all , we were impressed with our fortnight , and plan to return during another summer holiday. Prices for pitches are very reasonable , they take tourers and tents , and they have a few statics for hire , but never tried these. Again checkout the maps of the site in your particular provider , you get a better picture of the layout. They also have a website you can look at , and it is available in english too.
Thanks.
