Title: Unprofessional and Disrespectful Legal Representation…read more I hired attorney John Rupp to represent me in a criminal case in Lake County, Indiana, and my experience was extremely disappointing. He missed about three scheduled court dates, which repeatedly delayed my case and caused unnecessary stress. When he finally appeared, his attitude was arrogant and dismissive. After I tried to discuss my case with him, he walked away from me in court in a disrespectful manner, which I found completely unprofessional and unacceptable for an attorney representing a client. When I asked why he had missed multiple court appearances, he said he had custody issues involving his children, which unfortunately affected my case and representation. At my most recent hearing, he also demanded payment to "finalize" matters with the prosecutor, despite his repeated absences. Because of his conduct, lack of professionalism, and poor communication, I decided to terminate his services. I have also filed a formal complaint with the Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission to report his repeated absences and behavior. I would strongly recommend that anyone considering hiring this attorney proceed with caution and ensure consistent communication and accountability before retaining him.

On the afternoon of January 23 my wife and I got into a VERBAL argument and NOTHING more, (no physical contact) resulting in me breaking items that we payed for in our bedroom. The police were called and I was arrested and the trumped-up charges began. Four days later I posted the 80,000 (8,000) bond in cash BY MY WIFE. Prior to the post MY WIFE located and decided to go with Rubino Ruman Crosmer and Pollen and was directed to the "infamous, hardworking, go getter" Mr. Kyle Hoogeveen. We had a meeting two days later where I signed that the firm would receive the balance from my bond. My wife had a meeting with the Assistant to the District Attorney a few days later where she was told that the State didn't want to throw me in jail and wanted to have an alcohol monitor installed on my person for 18 months, take alcohol counseling and probation for two years. Me and my lawyer agreed even though Mr. Kyle Hoogeveen NEVER said he could get me a better deal or do anything for my defense so I took the deal because frankly I'm 44 years old and JUST purchased a home last December and have a nine year old boy and hearing the possibility of being sent away up to two years frightened the hell out of me. Standing with my lawyer in court and hearing the judge ask the prosecutor about my past or should I say the lack of my past/record and her response was, " no prior record your honor" had me contemplate real hard right then and there, should I not take this so called deal? Nope, the coward in me didn't want to upset or bother anyone or interfere with anyone's professional life. Yeah I know, I bitched out . Lately I've been watching Better Call Saul for no intentional comparison but watching Kim Wexler work as she does pro bono work defending the less financial fortunate, and how she displays compassion, drive, resilience, determination and the empathy for her clients wether they're potentially guilty or not. She actually FOUGHT for her people, she actually CARED for her people, she wanted the best deal possible and did WHATEVER she needed to do to see that happen. Nope, not Mr. Kyle Hoogeveen, he sat there and DIDN'T do a freaking thing. He didn't even do research to obtain my background to challenge the prosecutor. Ultimately I got an apparatus that you blow into 5 times throughout the day to see if I have alcohol on my breath which costs me 50$ a week for the next 78 WEEKS/18 Months. Sucks right?.. you know what sucks more? My so-called lawyer DIDN'T even know what it was called until he was literally in front, talking to the judge. Another lawyer who was sitting there observing and waiting for his client(s) verbally assisted him with the CORRECT information right in front of the judge. I didn't know the weekly cost of this thing or knew it cost anything till about a few days later and when I called my lawyer requesting him to petition the court for a discount due to a recent financial hardship his response was NOTHING but ignorance and irrelevance. I thought lawyers had an ETHICAL CODE to pursue a client's best interests, to follow the law and to zealously advocate for those individuals. I wonder if his niece or cousin, little brother or sister or FATHER had the exact charges and with ZERO background would he do the same or would he provide top notch counsel, would he be in their corner, would he stand up with great pride and furious initiative with all his knowledge, all his hours of studying and guide them to greater days? Who knows. The young lady with the horrible attitude who is the FIRST person you make contact with ALWAYS looked a hot mess with her hair always up in a morning, get out of bed bun. Another example of the lack of professionalism at this firm. If I was one of the people whose name was on the sign and on the hundreds of business cards floating throughout Northwest Indiana... I don't know. The ONLY REASON I'm giving Rubino Rumam Crosmer and Pollen 1 star is for the classy, nice young lady Carol who showed kindness to my wife.

Well she cancelled a court hearing I scheduled before I hired her without notifying me. I showed up to court only to find out that she decided to cancel the hearing that I had waited months to get two weeks prior to the the hearing. When I called to find out what happened she told me it was a scheduling conflict. In essence she prioritized something else at the last minute and failed to notify or discuss the cancellation with me. I paid a $2500 retainer in advance, she charges $250 an hour. She was non responsive for the first 2 1/2 months. Not returning calls rarely returning emails. Things began to escalate with my ex spouse and she actually started to communicate via text and email and a call here and there. What I didn't realize is she used this opportunity to excessively charge my retainer. We had not made it to court and she sent me a bill that had exceeded my retainer by $679.00 due upon receipt. She then sent me a notice of intent to terminate my agreement if she did not receive payment in 10 days. I reviewed the invoice and found errors in large amounts where she over charged me by $500.00. She had several line items where she charged me different amounts for the same item. Ex. $50 to make a call to OC and leave a message. She charged me this at least 10 times. She also demanded payment of the $179 to continue. At the supp hearing she was ill prepared and non effective in getting me anything for my judgement even though she charged me to subpoena my ex's employer for an interrogatory, bank statements, and financials. In court she only presented the hand written interrogatory. She never requested the bank statements or payment history so I got nothing. I then verbally terminated my agreement. When she refused to respond I again terminated the agreement via email. She finally replied telling me she needed permission from the court to be removed from my case. I told her again I no longer wanted her representation and she showed up at my child support hearing anyway and attempted to force herself into the court room. I had to advocate to the magistrate that she did not represent me and that I had let her go the week before. Roseann tried to hush me and even went so far as to tell this judge that only the other judge in the support case could release her. Well that was not true. I was able to get her removed but not before finding out that the contempt filing was never actually filed with the clerk. When I insisted there was a rule to show cause as to why he was not in contempt be considered because I had this document in my hand... that Roseann and I had signed ... Roseann finally asked the judge if she could be excused to leave. This is because the motions she charged me for filing were never filed and she didn't want the embarrassment of me knowing she had scammed me by excessively charging me for work she did not follow through on.
