I disagree with critical reviews here. It certainly hasn't been my experience. Their rental pricing and terms are better than in any other reputable camera store or online rental service in Canada, believe me I checked. So I'll add to all the positive reviews out there.
I was recently in Victoria and had initially planned on renting a Mark III with lenses. I phoned the store a few days ahead to book (thanks all google reviewers) and right away had a good feeling about the store - Rob was friendly, had great suggestions on choosing lenses and didn't seem eager to get off the phone, even though we spent half an hour discussing lenses. However, this is where the plot thickens (to quote Rob): when I got to the store to pick up the equipment I realized that I couldn't commit - I had never used a full frame before and was on vacation with my family and a small child in tow who had her own agenda in Victoria. Anthony was genuinely understanding and not for a second he seemed disappointed or annoyed. Could he have talked me into renting anyway? Absolutely. Or could he have tried to get rid of me asap? Yes, there were a few other customers at the store, and I was just passing through town. But he didn't do any of those things, and that's how I know that these guys are honest and not after profit for the sake of profit.
In summary, camera traders are truly friendly, professional and knowledgeable about photography equipment they are selling. I can trust them to give me an honest opinion or a suggestion as opposed to some salesman sales pitch. They are the guys I would buy used equipment from with no concerns, and I intend to save my business for them next time I'm in Victoria. read more
