The teachers and staff have been very welcoming. The parents here run a strong PTA. They fought to have the school reopened as a charter after it was shut down by the district. It's great to be at a school where everyone wants to be there. We are all working towards making a great future for our children. I have been in…read morefear that my son would not be accepted into the middle school that he wanted to enroll in due to retaliation. Now that he is completing his last year in middle school, I just want to share this experience with other parents/staff so this does not happen again. NOTE: this is long, so bare with me... My son attended Earl Warren from 2nd-6th grade. We moved from the Bay Area to Sacramento to relocate and found that Earl Warren was our neighborhood school and extremely convenient due to the location being right near our home. The teachers here were great, Ms. McDonald, Mrs.Phan, Mr.Eiers, Mrs. bolt were all phenomenal. However the principal of this school, Mr. Matthew Schlager really has no business being at a elementary school. Especially after previously failing to uphold his position as a principal at C.K. McClatchy High School here in Sacramento involving a previous lawsuit. I am saddened and disappointed that he is in a position with such authority to guide and oversee children. On this day in February, my son went to school and was approached by Mr.Riffle who told him his outfit was not "inappropriate" and advised him to go to the office. This is a school that requires uniform and my son has never not worn his uniform or anything that isn't compliant with the clothing expectations. My son went into the office and was asked why he was wearing shorts since it was such a cold morning, and my son explained to them that it was his choice and he felt more "comfortable" in them. The gal (Mrs.Manida) then tells my son he can leave the office and go to class. As my son is walking to class, he is approached by Mr.Riffle AGAIN who yells "GO TO THE OFFICE!!" When my son gets in the office, Mrs. Manida told Mr.Riffle that there was nothing they can do if he chooses to wear shorts rather than pants. That is when Mr.Riffle replied to her saying "Well we can call CPS" over the walkie talkie for the whole school/staff to hear. My son FRANTICALLY begs Mrs. Manida not to call CPS and to immediately call me if there is a problem. Mrs. Manida then apologizes to my son realizing how scared he got from Mr.Riffles remark and told my son "we would never call CPS" and repeatedly apologized to calm him down. I received a call from my son at work who was crying and absolutely terrified that for some reason CPS would come and intervene. I immediately told the office that I would be down to discuss the situation and how it has affected us as a family. I was APPALLED when I arrived at the office that I had to explain myself and the situation in front of other staff, teachers and students. I was mortified and humiliated to even say the word CPS without bursting into tears. HUMILIATING. They had us sit in chairs in the lobby and advised my son to write a statement about what happened, which he did. However nothing was ever done with it. After getting into Mr.Shlager's office, Mr. Riffle joined and gave us an apology and admitted what he did was totally uncalled for and promised it would not happen again or to another student. I explained that this situation has emotionally damaged myself and my son and this would be a huge issue for him in the future as they are adult/authority figures who completely took advantage of their power. I felt that Mr. Shlager was there to ultimately defend Mr.Riffle and felt there was no real consequence. I am disgusted that they would even use the word CPS as a threat to my son without realizing how it could destroy a family, all because my son decided to wear shorts rather than pants. They continued to emphasize that Mr. Riffle was wrong and should have never said it, BUT to this day it still bothers me drastically. HUMILIATING and absolutely horrifying experience that no family should have to go through, I would not recommend ANY child to work under the guidance of these men. Shame on you both.

Let me start by saying I've had my child attend this school for the past two years and I'm really…read moredisappointed in the lack of management from school administration, not protecting children from buying "stuff" from the back of a truck that parks right by the school bus gate, or buying drinks as well as unhealthy snacks from the seller pushing a mobile fruit cart. You know, the ones with a huge umbrella and visible cut fruit. Firstly about this truck, I did not write down the license plate number but I approached the front office three times and told the 2 elderly receptionists that my child was being short changed by $7 cash each time that truck parks next to the school. This truck is open for illegal business selling "stuff" that includes assorted American and Mexican candies (maybe containing Lead) as well as not providing a visible business license or reporting tax information to the bureau. I told the receptionist I wanted to talk to the school principal and the receptionist simply said "I'll take your number and name down and pass on the information." I never got a phone call from anyone. I REALLY DON'T KNOW what these people are selling in the back of their truck but I've noticed its being sold by adults displaying unsavory character playing annoying loud music. At one point I came back to the front office and I asked if I should call the police. The same receptionist said she will make sure the vice-principal walks the perimeters so to chase away these people who sell out of their trucks. The sellers are still there off and on during the week...you can see them as you walk your kid away from school where the yellow buses park. On to the problem with the seller of unhealthy snacks/drinks from the mobile cart. She has been warned about advertising her snacks/Takis and drinks on the school's sidewalk that she has moved her business to the dangerous corner of 59th street and 36th ave. (imagine lots of car passing by on a narrow street, people walking everywhere without looking both ways). I was told that as long as the seller is not near/on the school's sideway then there is nothing the school can do. The seller wears gloves but it is the same gloves that is touching cash bills and making juice drinks at the same time. There is no water station, alcohol wipes, or diluted bleach wash solution to clean her cart or hands. Other students have complained to me that this seller has also short changed them of dollars but they were too scared to ask for their change. Perhaps I need to take matters into my own hands and contact the California tax board about these small businesses evading taxes and shut them down. How long does this need to continue? Does a student need to get sick from eating unhealthy drinks made by unsanitary gloves before the school does anything? There needs to be a jump start on the principal leadership, it is nearly non-existent. I believe the teacher quality is above satisfactory. The parent involvement can be above average if we all can be more vocal about problems encountered at this school so to get the administration off their chairs and do something. PS- I even checked this school's rating on www.greatschools.org and Peter Burnett scored 3/5 stars. There is a bully problem at this urban school that even locking the front gate with a metal chain does not control student behavior or keep students from encountering unsavory adults selling "stuff aka assorted candies".

Maybe I give this school a five star purely because of the soft spot I have for it, but I digress. I would 100% recommend this school for any parent that wants their child to have a great time during school, or to give them beautiful memories of their youth. I am not sure what they are up to nowadays (perhaps I'll return one day to check up with the teachers and principal) but from my knowledge, every year at the end before summer vacation, they have a huge school field day party with water slides, food, candy, and music blasting from huge speakers, and for the 6th graders around the spring time in May, every 6th grade teacher takes their entire class to a field trip at a camp named Leoni Meadows and it's such a fun experience that your child won't ever forget about. With Zip-lining, to hiking, the environment your child will be around is Mind blowing. There is also After school programs (ASES) and the staff there is so caring as well. Want your child to enroll in summer school? Peter Burnett also provides a summer school program that shows your child a way of learning in a fun and educational way, I still remember memories I had with my classmates in summer school. And lastly, the principal and teachers there are so amazing and caring (Shout out to my 5th grade teacher Mr.Decker) and Mr.Huezo is such a great principal, the man cares for his job and does a great work at what he's supposed to do, he'll treat your child as if it was his own, and he cares for all of them despite what others might say, he's a great role model for your kid, and he'll treat them with the upmost respect. The school also provides a nursing room with a nurse that takes care of your kid, and there is also a library that has a caring librarian. From field trips, to learning, this school WILL BE the perfect place for your child to learn, and to make nostalgic and beautiful memories while also making caring friends along the way, I have a soft spot for this school as a high schooler, and I know your child will have the same feeling as well when he grows up :)

Terrible school. lots of bullying, serious incidents involving kids getting hurt under teacher…read more"care" ...the district does nothing but covers the incidents up and then sends a form to buy additional insurance. Front office is rude, no communication, does not assist the principal . BUT they do assists in covering up incidents. Several kids were seriously hurt, physically, emotionally and mentally. With the exception of 4 teachers, the rest are terrible, just there to get a paycheck. The after school program is about the only good thing- they care about the kids and communicate. Other than the 4 teachers, and after school..nothing good about the school. The District needs to clean up and clean out this school..leave the 4 good teachers, principal and after school...everyone else has to go or get transferred elsewhere. ​

From the moment we first stepped on campus which is now 5 years ago, it just felt different -- warm, welcoming, and full of energy. The teachers are incredible -- caring, attentive, and truly invested in each child's growth. The curriculum strikes such a great balance between strong academics and creative, hands-on learning. My daughter has grown so much in both confidence and curiosity since starting here and even visits her favorite teacher Ms. Castro. The sports programs are another huge highlight! There's such a great community spirit, and it's clear that the staff..shout out to Mr. Kennedy...values teamwork, leadership, and fun just as much as skill. What I love most is how inviting the environment is. You can feel the pride and positivity in everything from the classrooms to the playground. It's a place where kids are genuinely excited to go to school every day.
