We were really struggling to choose a restaurant to eat our first meal in Mexico at. After nearly half an hour of wandering La Isla, we ended up at the first restaurant that caught our eye when we saw La Isla from across the street - Cambalache. While it wasn't necessarily Mexican food, we figured we were headed in the right direction ethnically versus our other option, Chili's... The restaurant is located on the second and third floors of the large building. Our table was on the third floor, which was quieter and more secluded. There is a mini hanger for your table to hang your jacket or purse on. Service was impeccable. I believe we had 2-3 servers assisting us constantly the entire evening. They were very attentive and friendly, even if they were soft spoken. They brought us refills of our bread after we finished when they noticed that we were wondering if we could get more. We ordered some appetizers to share, including the soufflé potatoes and the tuna carpaccio. Both were excellent and I highly recommend. The soufflé potatoes were basically hollow potato wedges, so they were airy and pillowy. The outer shell of the "bowl" was ruffled potato chips that you could also eat. The tuna carpaccio was a bit cold but it was thin and flavorful. I shared an order of the suckling pig with my dad (recommended for sharing). It was enough for the two of us, and came with soft tortilla and guacamole. My sister and mom both ordered steak tacos, both of which came with some very well cooked and good quality meat. Toward the end, I also ordered a beer - my Modelo was very affordable - only a few USD, half of the cost you could find this for in the US at any restaurant or bar. I would definitely recommend - and while we didn't make a reservation that Friday night, I do recommend that you make one. This place is bustling and popping and has some great food that you cannot miss. If I'm ever staying in the area again in Cancun, I'll definitely be back for some steaks! read more

We had a nice meal here. Food was ok. Steak was very good but the sides and Caesar salad were a bit underwhelming. Cheesecake for dessert was rock hard, as if it had been sitting in the freezer. Would have been fab had they let it thaw. Came to about $250 USD for two adults and two small kids, with nothing out of the ordinary or huge amounts of anything. A bit steep for what you're getting but definitely the best option in the La Isla mall. Service was very good. Staff was warm and friendly and extremely responsive and available. read more

This restaurant lives up to its reviews. We really enjoyed the evening here. The staff were attentive and did a great job. It's a steak restaurant but we were pleasantly surprised to find pasta various other alternatives for our group. The steak was done perfectly and served with a nice selection of vegetables. We enjoyed the chicken dishes too and the kids loved the pasta. We had their tiramisu for desert and it was excellent. Perfectly moist. The food wasn't cheap but it was reasonable for what we got and portions were generous. We would highly recommend this place. read more

Below are the things that went wrong. 1) Appetizer tasted horrible it was like eating Spam I returned it and they still charged me for it. 2) The waiter never came to my table once. He paid more attention to a table of 8 than our small table of 3. Didn't even apologize when I told him he turned around and walked away. 3) The Steak was just OK but the seasoning had too much salt not the kind of taste you get from a $100 Steak. 4) The only time my waiter came by was to give me the check and stand around waiting for me to enter a tip. I gave him a tip because of the assistant that did all the work. 5) The Manager never came by, not what you expect from a restaurant that has $100 steaks. 6) It took us 2.5 hours to order get the food and wait for the check. Please read my checklist, is this a place you want to spend so much to eat and get the service I got. Came here for my birthday dinner and it was very surprising to notice that the atmosphere was beautiful. The staff very attentive and the food delicious. The sangria was the best thing going. We had very sweet waiters Pedro being one of the four. I highly recommend the tender skirt steak, it was exquisite. The creamed spinach also delicious, tuna in ponzu out of this world! For dessert we got a sampler and the dessert that was in walnuts I'm not sure of the name, was out standing. Hard to add much to what others have written. Suffice it to say it is the rare restaurant that we always visit every time we stay at the Lagunamar across the street. The food and service never disappoint. Steaks are always perfectly prepared. Reservations are a must. Open late which is also a plus. Fairly priced (also a rarity in Cancun). read more

We had dinner here as a recommendation of another guest at the Westin. We asked to see the menu and said, alright we will try! Sometimes unplanned decisions are the best... our dinner was phenomenal, and our Service (German and his staff) were amazing! Spent a week in Mexico for my birthday with my family and this place was amazing. Everything we ordered was delicious and they sang me happy birthday with a desert and gave us a discount off our bill just for staying at one of the resorts in the neighborhood. Their menu is diverse many meats, pasta dishes, lots of drinks. Their sangria pitcher is so good and fills four glasses twice. Now one thing to keep in mind is that this is an Argentinian steak house so some of the flavors that you typically used to or seeking will differ depending on what you order. Alfonso was our server and he was very helpful and polite. He answered all of my questions and offered for Richard the mixologist to make us a drink. I enjoyed a lovely margarita rocks and salt. We ordered the French onion soup for hubby and he said it was very beef- tasting but I explained that is what it is made of. He loves the onions and the cheesy bread. I enjoyed the grilled chorizo which was more regular sausage than spicy sausage which was great. It is the grandfather's recipe served with tortillas and lettuce/tomato. For entrees we had the Chicken Milanese and 7oz filet/tenderloin. With mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. The steak came with grilled onions which were fantastic. The steak was served on a hot stone and I was able to finish off the steak to my liking. All was delicious. Dessert was the caramel crepes table side and what an experience. Alfonso did an excellent job as I know the challenge of heating the sugar to be caramelized vs burnt. He knew exactly what he was doing!! The ambience was very nice. Plenty of space between table and the "tree" to hang packages and purses - as the restaurant is within La Isla Shopping Mall. Take a moment and enjoy!? read more

The food was fantastic. Group of 4- started with the Caprese salad (recommended for 2, but it comes with 4 thick tomato and cheese slices). Fried Calamari was good as well with a couple dipping sauces. Entrees were the Mushroom pineapple chicken (half chicken), Baby Burgers, Beef Filet and Steak Tacos. Each person was happy with their selection. Unfortunately, we didn't try the side items as we wanted to save room for desserts. The Caramel crepes were prepared tableside and were incredible as was the Chocolate cake. The facility was clean and a little trendy. This is my absolute favorite restaurant in Cancun. This bold statement is backed up by the countless meals that I enjoyed during our 7 night trip. It starts with the modern atmosphere with a hint bbq smoke in the air. The large open seating area and the loft are spacious; private rooms in the back offer a more intimate dining experience. I loved the table-side offerings that include: the meat cart, the Tequila brought to you in a special box, preparing Sangria, creating the Caesar salad dressing and prepping the romaine, carving your meat, mixing and firing the flambé sauce for ice cream, the after dinner drink carts where the mixologist creates your drink right in front of you, that includes flambé after dinner drinks, and yep there your baked potato is created right in front of you table side. Great steaks. Ate there twice during our Cancún visit. Ribeye the 1st time and splurged on the Wagu ribeye the 2nd time. Steaks were cooked to perfection each time. Wait staff was attentive and helpful. Only thing preventing a 5 star rating is the fact my wife is Celiac with a gluten allergy. On the 2nd visit we were assured everything ordered was gluten free. This unfortunately was not correct. She had an immediate reaction on eating the sides. Either the spinach/mushroom/onion side or mashed potatoes contained gluten. There was either a gluten containing ingredient or the food preparation was not up to a gluten free standard and was prepared in an area where gluten ingredients were present. The upshot is, for a wonderful steak, atmosphere and service you can't go wrong. But if you're Celiac, be aware of the hidden risk. And may want to avoid depending on the extent of your allergy. This was her 3rd time here in Cancun getting gluten after being assured there was none. We've come to the conclusion Cancún restaurants as a rule do not totally understand gluten allergies. read more

Argentinian Steak House, one of my favorites to visit as I love STEAK! Thus restaurant was recommended to us by a flight attendant on Alaska airlines and we quickly clung to the concert. Make reservations it just simplifies things and getting in. The wait staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and enjoyable to dine with throughout the meal. They were quite attentive and had appropriate table side services. I had ordered a dirty martini which was created right before our very eyes tableside. we also ordered a bottle wine and they were sure to make sure your glass never ran empty. You must try the empanadas as they were quite delicious and had many different fillings! Caprese salad for two was more than enough. Come time to make a decision as to which steak you wanted to eat was difficult as they all looked very delicious. Our table varied from beef tenderloin, New York strip, to ribeye. Each one had a very unique taste was cooked and seasoned deliciously. They serve it to you on a steaming platter cut it open to ensure appropriate cook style and then served on your plate. If you like spinach you have to try the cream spinach as it was rather creamy and well seasoned. Too full yo venture into dessert but excellent choices! Very disappointed with the food. It wasn't authentic, service was terrible our server Josue didn't pay attention to us even when we mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary. It seems that our table wasn't important for him because we were only 2 people who doesn't drink. Probably not a good business for him. Fortunately at the end another great server ( Alberto) came to save the day , and took the time to apologize and explained to us about the steak cuts, and answer another questions for us. The legendary beaches of Cancun come with well known downsides: idiotic spring breakers with invincibility complexes, and an amazingly gracious local population that..... well let's face it, take full advantage of the American mentality with cheesy tourist laden attractions and food offerings. For the value however, I challenge anyone to find nicer beaches and vacation convenience at a lower price point outside of the US. This was our third consecutive year at our timeshare (Westin Laguna Mar). And for our last night I really wanted a nice dinner that could please wife and son. Cambalache stares at our timeshare with a goofy big sign of some Argentinian-esque gaucho looking dude, from the front facade of the giant mall that caters to the foreigners with chincey souvenirs and over-priced blingy label stores, this naturally I was skeptical. Nevertheless I agreed to go based on the Yelp reviews. So glad I did. Once inside, you can sense this place is classier than most places with a modern take on steakhouse chic and an open kitchen / grill adorned with the fresh vegetables and numerous cuts that they feature. The menu is expansive and typically Argentinian, with classic Argentinian fare like mollejas and entrana to empanadas and milanesas. We started with a table side made Ceasar salad and an array of empanadas. Both were exceptional in quality and flavor and executed with not one but three servers that each had different roles. For mains my son had the chicken Milanese and my wife and I split a 14oz strip with grilled vegetables and their signature potato pillows. Honestly, this steak rivals the best I have had.... even ones that I cook at home on coals. It comes served on the same skillet as the veggies so if one likes to allow their portion sit on the skillet longer they can cook it more to their liking at the table. We paired this excellent cut with an Argentinian cab sav that surprisingly tasted more like an older super Tuscan and was perfectly cool. The whole tab was 190.00 US with the conversion making it an incredible value VS a night at the lacking Capital Grill or Ruth's Cris. I will look forward to gracing a table here next year!!!!
