We did not set out to be a homeschool family, but a gifted child got us here. I had no idea what I was doing. I didn't know how I was going to socialize him with children his own age. I had so many questions. I came across the group on accident and I'm so glad I did. They have a variety of classes and so many field trips. It encompasses all grades K through 12. Spelling bees, history and geography fairs ,everything you think your child will be missing from public school. And it's run by the sweetest lady Miss Brenda. You do not have to belong to the church. There's people of all religions. In fact no one ever asked us what church we belonged to! I would give this 10 stars if I could. read more

NOT a child friendly church We went to the Spanish ministry and my child asked her mom her doll. A Hispanic lady came and said she was interrupting the ministry, and that the pasture had interrupted the sermon because of her. The pastor seems to be from Nicaragua or Guadalajara or some sort. It's idolatry to give so much importance to a pastor. Jesus said let the children come to me. The message is usually kind of Old Testament and boring. I didnt see the love of God in that church and how we were treated. They say no denomination but they're babtist and hateful. read more

I have been going to Calvert for years We took our kids as we got older and kids went out of the house we had some breaks. When pastor mark left we took a break. I am disabled and take my service dog with and have been for years. Today we are trying to get reconnected with church the kids and our grandchildren. So we all meet at 830 for today March 10 service while I went to get breakfast I can back to the table with my son and husband to find one of the staff questioning Them, is this a service dog you know there are no emotional support dogs excepted You can not just put on a PTSD vest and call if a service dog. I can not believe that after 10 min to advocate for myself and REAL service dog I was so upset. Because once again the man said what does he provide?? I said the 3 task that he provides which is more then I need to do and said unless you are asking me to leave because church is the only people that can ask you do go. I was in tears and left my breakfast coffee and husband and son to leave. I will never set foot in that church again, if that is how you think gods love should be you may need to go back and study. Excellent worship, kids programs, and group studies...Pastor Mark speaks from the heart, and he gets you really involved in his sermons. They have a wonderful Moms4Moms class twice a month in the mornings and evenings...numberous book studies throughout the year. They have a cafe (which all proceeds go to ministires) that is fabulous. I have tried several breakfast and dinner options that were wonderful. You can sit in the commons, eat, drink, and whorship. I love this church!!! read more

I absolutely love this church. I've been going there for 21 years. Some people are concerned that it is too big but if you serve, join a small group, or do a bible study you build your church family quickly. Pastor Mark is an incredible teacher. He speaks truth and teaches the Word, not his opinions. He challenges everyone not to take his word as truth, but to check everything he says against the Bible, the true Word. It has an incredible Children's Ministry and Youth Ministry. If you want to raise your children rooted in God's Word, this is the place for you. I highly encourage you to check it out. After reading the one star review, I got excited because that is the type of church I want to visit. A church that has the guts to follow the very clearly delineated biblical rules from the apostle Paul on how to govern a true Christian ministry. I am a completely emancipated career woman in the market place. But I read the Bible and dissect it honestly about women in ministry and it clearly says that women should not teach men, only children and other women. Calvary is an Excellent church and Pastor Mark is a very humble, intelligent Bible scholar. He teaches the Bible and that's it. Jesus is the center of this church. If you want to learn about the Bible and Jesus this is the correct place to go. There is no PC here just JC as it should be. The assistant pastors and all support staff are also excellent. It is a very large church but this is a good thing. You can be as involved as you want as there are numerous groups and activities for all ages or you can be uninvolved. Its your choice. read more

I have great respect for the theology behind the Calvary Chapel Distinctives, and Pastor Mark Balmer is very much committed to sound biblical teaching. The church is huge with huge attendance, and it is easy to get lost in the crowd. Also, I don't understand why they have multiple campuses all with Pastor Mark as the pastor. The biblical model would be to spin off and cultivate new stand-alone churches with their own shepherds, but that is not done at Melbourne's Calvary Chapel. There is a large degree of "personality following" at the church and I do wonder how cohesive things will be when Pastor Mark, who is in his mid-70's, can no longer lead the church. It's not for me, but it could be more my fault than anything else, but I want to feel more like a member of a community. I don't care for music that seems to be designed more for the production value than worship. A singing group singing off key but glorifying God is fine with me, and preferable to the highly produced musical productions that are too loud for my ears. Also, be prepared to have your children stripped away and directed off to the children's ministry, because Pastor Mark does not suffer the little children to be in the adult worship service. That is his will, and it is imposed vigorously. Having said all this, it is worth a visit and their doctrine is sound. read more

This is an awesome church! I have been going for years and call it home and the people there family. Yes it is a big church, but once you get involved and take the time to get to know people it quickly feels like home. I also love that this church teaches the truth of the Bible and in keeps it in context with scripture. The Bible is taught in an easy to understand way and in an applicable way that brings it to the heart and day to day life. The kids ministry is great and my kids love going and having the Bible taught at their level. One benefit of a large church is that there are tons of different ways to get involved throughout the week from moms groups, to kids classes, to softball teams, Bible College classes there is something for everyone at every season of life. In terms of today's standards, this can be considered a great church at first glance. I cannot speak to the spiritual character and details of the leadership; of that I am ignorant. My observation is that at least one requirement (accompanied by much prayer) is necessary to advance such a fellowship and make it less of a Sunday morning entertainment event. One requirement is a greater commitment to the New Testament standard of teaching, especially regarding Christian giving (I Corinthians 16: 2: II Corinthians 8:7-9) and fellowship. Instead of the New Testament teaching, the principle of tithing (a decidedly Old Testament requirement) is employed. This is a very common error of Christian leaders today, as most of the professional preachers today and most of their followers do not seem to know how to teach New Testament giving without resorting to the Old Testament requirement of tithing. This failure diverts people's attention from the gospel even as it encourages religion. There is a big difference between developing religious organizations and advancing the kingdom of God; and the way in which giving is taught plays a vital and subtle role in maintaining that distinction. New Testament giving is vitally related to New Testament fellowship. New Testament fellowship supports establishment of formal church membership. Calvary Chapel emphasizes large gatherings on Sundays without formal church membership. Such an approach to meetings and fellowship encourages an entertaining, religious gathering. While an entertaining, religious gathering is good, providing an opportunity for the preaching of the gospel, Christian fellowship that builds the church in a lasting, profound way has to include formal membership and meetings in which people exhort one another. The Sunday morning meetings as now practiced provide an opportunity for one person (usually the pastor) to exhort the others who are gathered. New Testament meetings that build churches and appeal to unbelievers most powerfully are meetings in which the believers (who are members) exhort one another and as a byproduct challenge unbelievers (Hebrews 10:25; I Corinthians 14:26-31; Acts 9:26-28; Galatians 2:9-10). Most church organizations today fail to achieve New Testament fellowship (exhorting one another) in their meetings and fail to teach giving in the New Testament way. I came from a small church of about 300 in the Midwest. I have found my home church in Calvary Chapel of Melbourne. It is not at all like the church I loved back in Indiana. Yet, through CCM my relationship with God has become more personal. This church has an amazing staff of pastors led by Pastor Mark who is the greatest teacher of the Bible I have ever encountered. The worship service opens my heart and I can always feel the presence of our Lord in the sanctuary. Thankful that God led me to Calvary Chapel Melbourne. read more

This is your typical evangelical megachurch. Several problems I saw immediately 1) Size: this church is just too large. It feels like a production, and it is difficult to build community in a place like this. 2) Leadership: It is NOT transparent in any way shape or form. Here, the pastor is in charge, and he hand selects those who head committees and serve in leadership positions (The Moses Model of Leadership). Although Pastor Mark is good, I can forsee issues with this structure, if something were to go wrong. Women cannot hold any office, and cannot teach classes with men in them. I have a problem with this. 3) Accountability: There is none. 4) This church is cliquey. No explanation needed here. 5) Theology: Calvary falls on the very conservative end of evangelicalism, bordering on fundamentalism. What sets Calvary apart, is how other denominations, and churches are condemned on a regular basis. If you don't want to check your brain at the door, you may want to look elsewhere. read more
