We end up in Pocahontas frequently as it's a solid days drive/ride for many of our travels from…read moreTexas. In the past we've stayed @ the Rock & Roll, but our last stay involved a room full of mosquitoes buzzing in our ears all night long and roaches in & around the fridge, so we decided to try Days Inn. I booked via the app while still on the road. This hotel is one of the rare that has "smoking" and "nonsmoking " rooms. Fortunately there was a nonsmoking room available (only 2 left!) and I booked it. We don't smoke and my sinuses do not like cigarette raunch. I would never guess there are any smoking roomed in this hotel as I never smelled smoke at all during our stay except from the outside ash bins. Thank you, Days Inn/Wyndham! Humidity is an ongoing issue in Pocahontas because of all the rice fields, which makes for musty rooms and bazillions of mosquitoes. I was THRILLED when upon entry I saw a bug zapper in the lobby. Nary a mosquito in our room I am happy to report. The front desk clerk was very friendly and got us checked in quickly. Somehow the app gave me 2 rooms, she quickly corrected that. She gave clear instructions to the location of our room and details about which doors are locked & inaccessible from the outside during certain hours as well as the limited "breakfast" options & time. Our room was big! The layout was logical and convenient. The bathroom had a HUGE vanity which was nice because we have a lot of bathroom stuff. The light fixture in the bathroom is directly over the sink, leaving the tub/shower very dim and the water out of the sink faucet shot sideways. Days Inn/Wyndham did a great job of handling the high humidity that is Pocahontas. I noticed 2 humidity absorbing products in our room, the fragrance of the room was pleasant without being overpowering. The desk was nice, chair was comfortable as I needed to work on my laptop for a bit after having sat in the car for 8 hours. One note - the outlets in this room are oddly scattered and definitely not enough in convenient places (such as the nightstand & desk). Most hotels have a power box on the desk with at least 3 plugs and 2 USB ports given all the things that require a charge nowadays. That would've been nice here (I, fortunately, brought my own, just incase something like this happened). The mini fridge was clean and so awesome! It had its own separate freezer with its own door, which I've never seen before. I wish every hotel has this great convenience! The bed was comfortable and loaded with pillows. The linens were the pretty blue ones just like the room shown in the app. The curtains darkened the room perfectly and the A/C & heat were fully adjustable to our comfort level. The TV was a great size and had a ton of channels that actually worked (the place we stayed a couple weeks ago actually had channels that popped up as "unavailable" when selected). The coffee was empty when we arrived for a fill around 8AM, so we went back to our room & waited for a new carafe to brew. I made a pot in the room while we waited, but it ended up being nasty. I was disappointed that there's still no breakfast other than danish guarded by the front desk clerk - in Texas everything is back to normal - we had scrambled eggs & sausage @ La Quinta. Funny thing? No breakfast because of COVID, yet creamer & sugar are only available in a single store-bought container like you would have at home, except here everyone touches it. That was gross. Gym is by appt only - I'm guessing that's a state thing during COVID? One of the housekeepers asked if she could give my service dog a treat, I said "Sure, but she's picky...." Pffft! Pooch LOVED the treat and the kindhearted housekeeper with tumbly red hair. Overall our stay was nice and we slept well. The staff is very courteous, the hotel was clean & comfortable. And NO MOSQUITOES! Sorry Rock & Roll, but we'll be staying @ Days Inn from now on.

For the love of God, do not stay here. This hotel is…read moreextremely dirty and poorly maintained. The first room I was given, Room 335, was a smoking room, even though I specifically requested a non-smoking room. When I brought this to the front desk's attention, the employee moved me to a "non-smoking" room next door, Room 334. Unfortunately, the second room was no better. The smell of smoke was still seeping through the hallway, and the room itself had an overwhelming odor of curry and body odor. The smell was so strong that it was difficult to stay in the room for any length of time. To make matters worse, the floors were sticky with some unknown substance, and I found two bugs on my bed. I immediately called the front desk, but was told there was nothing else they could do because I had already been in the room too long--approximately 30 minutes. Most of that time was actually spent in my family's room because the odor in mine was unbearable. In the end, I chose to sleep in my car rather than stay in the room. Even after such a short amount of time inside, my clothes, luggage, and eventually my car absorbed the smell. This was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had, and I would strongly recommend staying somewhere else.
